Really sad to hear Halladay retired. Guy was a pitching genius. I hope he comes back and coaches for the Phillies (or any team really). He deserves a World Series so much, though. Ah, well.

I'm gonna miss Halladay. Feel guilty we didn't get him a ring.

back to the snow topic - got another 5-6 inches coming, off again today. :)

So, the Tigers are reportedly going to sign Rajai Davis to a 2-year deal.

If you think about it, the way the lineup is going to be for them next season, there's only 1 player you could pencil in for 20+ HRs next year. That's a bit troubling, if you ask me.

I'm not worried. You don't need to lead the league in home runs to succeed, and it was more important that we improve our fielding, base running, and bullpen than maintain our power. Davis is a cheap platoon option (batted .319 against lefties last season) that provides flexibility and can pinch run/substitute defensively when he's not starting. Moreover, Comerica Park was never designed for a team that jacks home runs every time, it's better suited for a speedy team with doubles power, which is what DD has assembled. I'm glad we stayed away from Choo, who is reported to be looking for something as expensive as a 7-year, $200M deal.

If Castellanos pans out (.280/.340/.400), I predict a 2014 Tigers team that finishes top 3 in the AL in runs scored.

I think the Tigers will have some problems next year, especially with the complete overhaul of the coaching staff, and losing Leyland might be their biggest loss yet.

Well, it technically wasn't a complete overhaul of the coaching staff. Gene Lamont (bench coach, former human windmill) and Jeff Jones (pitching coach esquire) are on Ausmus' staff for the coming season. I won't say that Ausmus will be better than Leyland at being a manager, but I think he'll do a servicable job as the manager. I'm actually excited for the coaching staff, especially Omar Vizquel as the infield coach.

Well, considering you guys only had two this year, that doesn't seem like much of a change.

EDIT: Apparently Trumbo got traded to the D-Backs...

Trumbo has played a bit of LF. He sucks there (as well as every other position except DH, but even that's a stretch), plus has a CAREER .299 OBP. D-backs are stupid to give up Skaggs AND Eaton for him.

Damn, this morning the option popped up to update my laptop to a Windows 8.1 "upgrade". I didn't do any research and agreed to it, turns out it beyond significantly reduces the performance of my laptop, and there's apparently no way to go back.

I tried playing a game that I played flawlessly yesterday and now there's unbearable lag that makes it completely unplayable. Considering I invested in a really expensive laptop for the ability of playing and recording games, this is a pretty brutal overnight change. I have to pray they fix things now...
