The Outcast

“Get up, hun.” A light tap on the shoulder is all it took to wake the young girl up, “It’s 6.”
“Oh. Thanks.”

Her father left her room, so she could go through her morning ritual, whatever that entailed.

Sometimes I wonder why I do all this… No one even notices me.

She took a shower, got dressed, fixed her hair and put her things in her bag.

When she walked downstairs she noticed an English muffin was sitting out waiting for her. “Thanks, Dad.”
“Of course, sweetie.”
She ate it meticulously, watching Good Morning America. It was a typical morning.
The clock read 7:03. “I should get going.”
“Have a great day!”
“Thanks…”

She left for the bus. Oh, thank god. An open seat.
It filled up as it made its scheduled stops.

“Wait! Wait!” a boy yelled from the outside of the bus. She looked out her window, he was running to the bus. Poor kid.

He stumbled on and the bus driver said: “Don’t make this a habit, Bledsoe.”
“I’m sorry, miss. Thank you.”
“Come on in.”

He just stood there, past the little white line in the aisle, scanning for any open seats.
Oh no, please don’t sit next to me. Please don’t sit next to me.

“Bledsoe!” yelled the bus driver
“Sorry! Sorry.”

He took a seat next to the young girl.

The King

[10:51] “champion is the only song that’s good on that album”

[10:51] “uh, no, that’s not true at all”

[10:53] “faggot yes it is that’s the only one i like”

[10:53] “that doesn’t mean it’s the only good one”

[10:57] “ya it kinda does”

There was stomping in the hall and up the stairs, “what?” said ‘Jared’
“Get me a drink.”
“What? I was just downstairs. Why didn’t you ask me then?”
“I wasn’t thirsty then. HA!”
“*(censored)* asshole.”
"HAHAHA!"

The Fighter

“Mitch, we still game for tonight?”
“I dunno, man, a couple of people pulled out.”
“Pussies.”
“That’s what I’m sayin.”
“They better come back, I’ve got a ton of *(censored)* money on this match.”

“Well, then, what the hell are we doin?”
“We’re gonna get them back in.”

“How the hell we gonna do that?”

The two men went to the garage, grabbed a wooden baseball bat with “Don’t *(censored)* with Maple” written on the side of it. They threw it in the back seat of a junky red car. It puttered a few times before it started up.

“This piece of shit got me worried, man.” said ‘Larry’
“Why?”
“It don’t start sometimes.”
“We should get that checked out, dude. The Dick-mobile can’t break down now.”

“We gotta change that name.”

The Enamored

She laid on the chaise, cigarette in her mouth, patience thinning. Her meaningless life was becoming stagnant. I need to get out more. wsa the only thought that crossed her mind. Her marriage was as bland as the room, and she had had enough. Her husband, when not inebriated, was a man of a few words and less interests. She was interested in him at first, but it slowly dawned on her that his fat wallet was the only thing keeping her in that damned house.

I need to get out more. The thought crossed her mind again, as it does endlessly throughout each passing day. Its frequency growing ever steady. She hadn’t the faintest idea how to end it-- she had made an attempt at divorce, but the tedious legal process and the beatings steered her away from it. She looked out her window, cigarette still lit, to see an angry man walking by at a brisk pace.

He has purpose. I’m jealous.

Quentin Hughes is a fairly notable writer who was 36 years old when his wife, Jenny, was killed in a car crash. He now travels the country with his son, looking for subjects to write about, however Quentin has recently got it in his head that foul play was involved in his wife's murder. He is really traveling to follow all the "leads" he has on the "case" of his wife's death.

The Damned

“What’s up, dad?” the boy asked his father, a man of 38 years outwardly and many more inwardly.
“Huh? Oh, uh, nothing, kiddo. Just looking at some old papers.”
“Oh yeah? What they abo-”
“Nothing!” he said, diving over the desk, concealing the papers he was looking at.
“Alright! Okay! Nothing! I get it. I’ll, uh… See you.”
“Yeah. Yeah, uh. Yeah. Bye, Dan.”
“Uh… Bye, Dad.”

The boy, Daniel, left out the front door. Seems he had an appointment to get to.

“Goddammit!" The man slammed his desk with a fist, "There has to be something here. It just… It doesn’t make any sense. She wouldn’t have made that mistake… She couldn’t have. Those cuts… What the hell were those cuts...?”

He stood up and paced about the room. “Dammit Jenny,” he starts, tears forming in his eyes, “what were you doing here?”

Very good. I like what you're doing here. Thanks for extending that deadline, I was at school all day and then I had track practice, but this should give the forum a good kick in the ass for a while.

The School

“Uh, thanks for letting me sit here.” The boy said
“Oh, ahaha… No… No problem.” Replied the girl Why is he talking to me? she idly thought, very happy that he had even so much as noticed her.

The boy scratched his head, the bus’ doors closed, “so… you’re a senior, right?”
She nodded

“What’s, uh, what’s your name?”
“P… Perri.”
“Nice. I’m Tony. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Ye-yeah, you too.”

...

The din of the bus overwhelmed the silence floating in between Tony and Perri. They both continued to stare straight forward, hoping to just get to school already.

They pulled up to the front of Rogers High School at 7:17. Tony quickly raised to his feet and Perri soon followed. They said nothing to each other as they exited. Perri did give a “thank you” to the bus driver, which Tony thought strange.

“Shut the *(censored)* up, faggot!” filled the air around the entrance, no one seemed to care.

The first bell rang at 7:27 and the hallways began to rumble and grumble. The day had finally begun.
