August 20, 2015 Today I, Matthew R. start my journey with my friends Robert T. and Zero G. As we plan to become starters on the northwestern baseball team. Us being freshman we have to fight for spots on the roster. I'm glad I was the corner infield but Robert and Zero weren't so lucky. They were both pitchers hoping to try and make a impression on the varsity coach Steve Carson. Trj 2 Con E 7 Pwr F 55 Rspd G 3 Arm F 4 FLD E 6 ERes D 9 R/R It was at about 3:00 that JV started practice and we met our coach Jeff Lawrence a school alumni. I looked my competition up and down. It was going to be a long season. Our starting nine weren't great but we could be worse. Robert and Zero were thinking about what pitches they would learn as both only threw one breaking ball. As practice went on the team took grounders and they came BP. I was given my choice of pitchers. A. Dan Spangler Varsity (20) 96 with a pair of crazy curveballs lefty B. Toby Peterson JV (18) 79 two poor breaking balls great control righty C. Alvin Luckhard Varsity (19) 85 knuckleball artist D. Chief Lesman JV (17) 90 fly ball pitcher lots of fastballs bad change ups |

As I stepped in chief Lesman through a blazing fastball past me at 90 then I popped many bombs off his terrible change ups. I finished BP. Strength + 15 Technique + 7 Power hitter 4/100 Contact hitter 8/100 August 21, 2015 Robert and I decided to head to class early. We had math and science together. Then PE with zero. We did Calculus and Biology. I fell asleep in bio. I ended up getting the notes from Robert. Then in PE we played dodgeball and Robert developed a better curve on his throw and Zero gained more control. I gained power on my throws. We then headed off to practice for a practice game against varsity. I checked the starting lineup. 1. CF Gary Harris 2. RF Vince Justinson 3. 1B Pablo Martinez 4. 3b Matthew R. 5. SS Terry Cooper 6. 2B Henry Carney 7. LF TJ Williamson 8. C Bradley Martin 9. Robert Thomason P I was hitting fourth and facing Alvin Luckhard my rival who had made me look foolish all through high school. Now it was my turn to embarrass him. 1-0 Varsity Top of the 2nd Matthew R. Vs Alvin Luckhard With no one and no one out I stepped up to the plate and took a knuckleball to start the at bat. On the pitch I... A) Swing for the fences B) Bunt C) Opposite field hitting D) Drag bunt out of nowhere E) ask the coach what do I do now? |
