Post subject:  Need special access to browse new password forum?

I'm getting blocked from accessing the new password forum/subforum, can anyone help me out with that? It says only users granted special access can read topics in this forum.

Thanks for your help, and sorry about where I posted this, it seems out of place.

I think that's BS if i can't get into there, I don't get why I shouldn't be allowed.

The moderation staff has noticed a number of unsolicited posts requesting custom players without contributing to the site. To eliminate the "hit-and-run" tactics, we've invoked a "rookie" restriction on accessing and requesting custom passwords.

As we have just implemented the feature, we are still negotiating a minimum post count / registration time that would make those that have made large contributions to this site happy while still gaining more contributors as this game continues to grow outside of Japan.

The basic restriction to simply view passwords may be as lowered to a few posts, or even simply registering with the site, it may change as we monitor these forums. However, to make a request for a Success Mode expert to create you a custom made player should require you to make a significant contribution to the site as a "fee". It seems only fair to those who take the time to give you what you want.

Remember that the contributers of this site run it out of their own pockets. We get nothing for this, only the satisfaction we've inspired the growth of a baseball community around this game series. We want to continue to watch it grow, and cultivate it the way we see fit.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I just liked adding the people to my game, I don't care about posting in there, I don't think I've ever posted in that section.

edit: Well it's working for me now, not sure if you changed something, but thanks.

It's a good idea to restrict access. I think the better the player, the more posts you should have to be allowed to see the passwords.

I don't think this is fair. I'm a rookie and all I liked doing was reading the forums and looking at how people get such good characters. I'm bad at success mode and just wanted to see other people's characters to see what is possible. I did ask for a player, but only once. And anyway Wyl gave me some advice and I was on my way.

I agree with a few of you, I do think if a forum goer wants to restrict access to his or her created characters that's fine. I personally just took pictures and was planning on posting some of my own characters and will refrain from doing so as I can't even access the forum for one, and I wouldn't want anyone restricted from seeing my own created characters based on post counts.

I think the system is unfair at best, and fairly elitist at worst. If every forum member that has offered their services for creating characters was asked if they want to restrict access to their creations and the consensus was yes I suppose I have no choice, but I don't think at least browsing the forum should be restricted.

Let's just say it's not very hard to gain access. Everyone can get access, it's not that we're singling anyone out, we just want to keep people from joining solely for the purpose of requesting players to be made for them. If you haven't introduced yourself yet, head over to the Free for All forum and try it. If everyone contributes a little to some threads, you will be granted access to the password forums.

Would it be possible to expedite getting access for newer members if they offered a password before asking for someone to make them a player?

That's an idea, it requires direct administrator/moderator contact to do so which makes the other way easier but slower, but it can be done. Also if the new person contributes very well to the Wiki but rarely posts on the forum they may be granted access.

Here's a thought...

Instead of going by post counts, why not take advantage of the Credits system already in place? Assign a value to a created player, maybe even a tiered cost system based on how good the player is, and then make people "buy" the player from whoever chooses to work the request.

The end result is largely the same in that you earn credits through posting, but this way the bottom line is you can't request a player if you don't have the credits to pay for it, with the upside that you don't have to block viewing/posting to a particular forum based on post counts.

I like this idea as well. The players I have done were for credits. Maybe we could come up with a fair amount depending on the quality of the player made. Great idea.
