So, with the recent mini-drama of the forum going down (which has happened in the past), I realized just how hard it was to get in touch with the majority of the user-base here, in case the site suddenly shuts down for good. That is why I propose we start a AIM or other IM service chatroom so we can keep in touch in emergency situations only. What does everyone think?

Sounds like a useful thing to do.

What about LINE or maybe we can make an alliance or team on another app or something.
OR YOUTUBE discussion.

I have absolutely no clue what you're getting at, Kfpc. YouTube is not real time, so that won't help, and I have no clue what LINE is. I think either AIM or Slack would be the best options if we were to do an emergency outside chat.

I know I shouldn't use Wikipedia, but I can't find anything else

AIM sounds good.

But if anyone else has any better suggestions, that's fine.

Also what the hell happened to the forum anyway?

I don't know what happened. That's for DS to know.

Personally, I think AIM is the best place to go for a backup chatroom in case things go wonky. I'd need to know AIM usernames so we could possibly get a group chat going, if people want to do that.

Maybe a skype group chat? not calling each other but just a text chat. I don't have an AIM, or at least I don't think so haha. I have an AOL account though

I mean I don't have an aim either but I'll sign up for one if we get more people in on this

I got a skype and I think this might work. Does anyone know how a teamspeak server works? If so we might make one of those.

Well either we:
1) rent a server. Seems pointless, no reason to waste money for something we'd use once a year (during maintenance); unless the website is shutdown completely. EDIT: it is really cheap, but like I said, seems like a waste of funds if it probably won't be used
2) find one and hope the owner doesn't kick us out
