Since I don't have a PC currently, I'm looking at putting one together as cheaply as possible to run Dolphin and emulate MLBPP08. I'll also be using it for general internetting.
If you guys have any advice on how to put such a PC together, your input, advice, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I saw this desktop on amazon, it was the cheapest I saw that has the Intel Quad Core i7 processor that dolphin recommends. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NA6VS ... S1RR2Q6H5H

I'll have to also buy a keyboard, controller, maybe a few more things that will push the price up to $700 or so.
I already have a monitor.

Well as long as you have this link: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9772&start=15 which tells you everything.
I don't think you can use a wii controller, will have to check later.
Anyway, I think you have it all. Make sure you don't go from different cables in monitors and desktops, I'm lucky enough for my tower to have an HDMI.
Now looking at it, you'll need a VGA monitor, make sure it's not VGA to DVI-D because that messes with the resoulution by about well I can't remember how much percent, but I believe about half.
If you have all that, I think you are pretty much fine.
Also you'll need 7Zip or WinRAR and you should be done from there.
Also, get Norton. Too many viruses and a surge protector. Don't want your computer to become a lightweight right away.
That's about it. Monitors don't really count for me as long as you don't go from VGA to DVI-D(or VGA to HDMI, don't remember if this is possible but also messes up the resolution I believe).

Far from a PC expert but a few thoughts worth looking into as you narrow down your purchase/build options:

- Dolphin appears to be more GPU than CPU reliant and that card will likely be fine for your purposes. It's a budget card but it has some pop and enough to meet the Dolphin requirements (found https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/). You can also look for anything with higher than GTX 460 benchmarks http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html. You are much better off with a more modern budget card than an older discounted powerhouse (power requirements, space, and heat will be an issue with older powerful GPUs).
- That mini tower won't work. Even if it has the space and capability to fit the GTX 1050 Ti (it doesn't look like it does), the power supply (240W) is insufficient for the 300W minimum requirement of the 1050.
- An i5 will be good enough and a place where you can save some money since an i7 isn't necessary. Look for a newer i5--the i7 2600 isn't weak but it's 5 years old at this point. You don't need the most recent i5 but getting whatever is a generation out of date would be great (either the i5 4000 or 5000 series). Note: the Dolphin FAQ recommends the i5 https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/. Perhaps you saw the i7 on laptop requirement mentioned somewhere. Laptop CPUs are different in terms of capability.
- Look for a hard drive running at 7200 rpm. 5400 rpm is laptop territory and the cost for the faster drive is negligible. Space is the issue for laptops.
- I bet some of the reddit computer built forums would actually be a great place to throw your question. The easiest option would be a pre-built that has the capability to add a beefier GPU.

Okay so I hope you haven't bought yet. If you have, you might want to return it to Amazon.

That i7 is about 6 years old and present day i5s will outperform it, but it's still good enough for dolphin (my CPU is less powerful and handles it without lag most of the time). That computer is also an SFF (small form factor) and it won't be able to fit that graphics card.


This guy seems like a very reputable seller and is selling a computer that should get the job done and some on ebay, I suggest buying this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Gaming-PC- ... SwZQRYbkta It comes with windows, graphics card, and everything you would need in it. (Unless if you need a wifi adapter/can't use ethernet). A GTX 970 will also outperform any 1050 Ti. (and this is cheaper)

This computer contains a 180GB SSD (and a larger HDD), which runs about 3-10x faster than harddrives. Do not fill this up with all your games, because games and other stuff you put on the hard drive will still take up some storage space because of AppData which is automatically and immovable from the drive the OS is on. Do not put any media like videos, music, or pictures on it either. Just keep windows and maybe a couple of games/programs on it.

With what kungfupandacam said, I second using gamecube controllers and an adapter for the game as well. Rant on why not to use somethign else: I use an alternative controller (logitech F310) and what it contains, as do many other PC-controllers, is a hardware deadzone. Basically that means you have to move the control stick more than just a little bit to get any movement out of it in game. That may be fine or good for many games, but it is frustrating when batting and pitching in this game. You are also going to be most familiar with a gamecube controller so will be easier to map controls to and easily play with.

I would not get norton antivirus, I would get Avira. Here's a look at antivirus performance https://chart .av-comparatives.org/chart1.php I actually use avast myself, because it was the best free option 2-3 years ago and I haven't bothered switching. Avira is only beaten out by Kapersky and Bitdefender, which are both paid-programs. For some reason that website doesn't test Norton, this one does but as you can see Avira is still a clear frontrunner. https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/ It is the only one beside Kapersky to get 5/5 in all 3 categories, yet it's also free. (Avira does offer a paid version and a free version, but the paid version only offers trivial extra protection and features, things that just make you feel safer much more than actually make you safer. Avast is the same way.)

Any other questions ask me! Uh, make sure you have headphones or speakers. If you don't, ask and I can give you good recommendations for headphones. Also make sure you have keyboard, mouse, maybe a microphone. Ask me if you don't have any of these.

Edit: For mouse I suggest just get this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NN ... UTF8&psc=1 - $20 and very good. I watched many videos about good mice under $20/25/50/100, and this one seemed mentioned a bit and I liked the good things about it. The only reason not to get it is if you have very large hands or if you want a silent-clicking mouse. I have somewhat small hands for a man and it fits me perfectly.

Headphones: Do you plan on doing anything other than just MLB power pros and occasional music or movies? And do you need it to block outside sound or allow outside sound to come in, or doesn't matter much? You can email me at jrgjr1@gmail[dot]com too, as I don't come to this forum everyday. - If you want speakers I'm not of much help but could do some research for you.

Keyboard: I just use a cheapo $5 walmart keyboard, but when I did some research on getting a computer for a friend this one seemed to be perfect for how cheap it is. https://www.amazon[dot]com/Redragon-Karura-Keyboard-Switchable-Backlight/dp/B00LSGKEC4?ie=UTF8 I used it a little bit and it is pretty good. It is a low-profile keyboard which means it won't have that much feedback or sound when clicking keys. It comes with a color-changeable backlit keyboard and a wristwrest. (I'm probably gonna get this now after thinking about it... Could use a good keyboard.) There are more high-end keyboards called mechanical keyboards, too. I'm personally not a fan but a lot of people love them, they will run closer to $100 so I suggest against it at this price range.
