The pitching system in this game. Unlike the previous game, when you pitch any type of curve, it won't land exactly where you put the pictching mark. It doesn't happen with the fastball though. It's throwing me off a bit.

BTW: The topic should read "Have any of you guys noticed". Sorry for that.

the marker is for where the ball starts out not where it lands after it breaks

Well yeah I mean, literally, I put the pitching mark on the top-right corner, throw a Change-UP and the pitch comes down way too much like if I had put the mark in the middle-right and the pitch lands almost on the bottom-right. This doesn't happen with the 2007. It got to the point where I went back to the 2007 to see if it was my controller or something...but no. The 2007 is more accurate.

Not bad though, it feels more realistic.

Try to throw a fast ball without moving the mark, just leave it in the middle. The pitch will NOT land in the middle.

To me it is the same as last year. all the pitches break the same as they did in 2007, tho in 2008, they break more sharp.
in 2007 the change up always broke down.
also control affects how much control they have at locating the pitch, and for a fastball, fastball life does a little good to add a slight movement.

I'm sorry man. It must be both of my games or something, but in 2007 the Fastball lands exactly where you put the mark. And the Changeup breaks from top-right to middle-right IF you actually put the mark top-right. In 2008, the pitches move slightly and randomly to any side from where you put the mark (fastball).

I'm trying to make this as clear as possible, lets say you throw a change up and you put the mark on the top-right corner. It is obvious the ball will break down because it's a change up, we agree on that. But when you throw the change up and when in lands, the pitch can begin and break outside the strike zone or (instead of beginning on the top-right corner from where you put the mark) begin on the top-middle and land on the middle of the strike zone. But almost never where you want it to be, in this case to break from the top-right corner to the middle-right. I can't be the only one going through this c'mon.

I think it just has to do with the control of your pitcher.

I've noticed this somewhat as well, as a batter, in My Life mode against the likes of Maddux and Glavine (good control). They'll do their windup where the pitching cursor is basically all over the place and then the ball will arrive at a random spot, sometimes near where the cursor was or where it traveled, or on the other side of the strike zone completely. It's frustrating as a batter because you have absolutely no idea what to trust.

Yeah, what you're describing to me sounds like a pitcher's CTRL ability. If you pitch using a guy with A CTRL the ball goes exactly where you try to put it much more often than if the guy has D or E CTRL.

I haven't noticed it so much myself, but it could be that the devs increased the level of influence of CTRL on where the pitch ends up.

But I know how hard it can be to describe something visual in words, so it could very well be that we're not catching on exactly.

Um, the pitch will start where ever you put the cursor and will end in a certain spot depending how much it breaks. If the pitcher doesn't have good control, it could end up somewhere else.

The only issue I see with that is that I have experienced this against pitchers with good Control, like Greg Maddux.

I'll try an ASCII visual.

Strike Zone during windup, X is where the ball starts, movement is ~, O is where the ball is at the end of the windup
Code:
-------------------

         X~~~~O
_________________

aaaaaand the pitch...

Code:
-------------------

     O

_________________

No {!} marks or anything, the pitch just went somewhere completely different than the marker said. I believe it's more random the better the pitcher you are facing.

(Man I hope those ASCII codes look normal for everyone else, otherwise they're a mess)

Thank you DarkShade Thank you!!!!

*considers DS a good Stress Reliever*

So, bottom-line. The pitching system is somewhat different than last year's.
