The last time the Pittsburgh Pirates made the postseason, Barry Bonds was their star player. The Bucs were led by current Tigers manager Jim Leyland as well. Unfortunately, the Bucs fell short in seven games to the dominant pitching staff of the Atlanta Braves. Since then, it's been nothing but despair and painful memories for Pirates fans. Their best record in a miserable 15-year period is 79-83. Fans have suffered for a long time now, and it's time for change. GM Neal Huntington was asked about the direction of his team on WNS Radio 655 AM:

Neal Huntington wrote:
Pirates fans have suffered for too long. It's time for a change. I cannot assure our loyal fans that we will be successful this season, but I can assure you that improvements will be made. The atmosphere will change. In a few years, we will constantly contend for not just division titles, but world titles. Getting to that level starts with our manager, John Russell. I truly believe that he can mentor each and every one of our players to reach the best of their abilities. I'm very excited to see how the season will turn out.

I'm feeling the hype

If we're allowing agents, I'd like Mientkiewicz and Yates as my clients, if possible.

Pittsburgh Pirates 0-0 @ Atlanta Braves 0-0

March 31, 2008: Opening Day

The Pirates started off their 2008 campaign against the club who ended their 1992 season, the Braves. Zach Duke took the mound to face Tom Glavine. It was a complete pitcher's duel for a long time, as the Pirates wasted chances in the fourth. However, Jason Bay cleared the bases for a 3-run double in the 5th, giving the Pirates a 3-0 lead. The Pirates struck again in the 7th, this time scoring 4 runs to take a 7-0 lead. In the bottom half of that inning, Jeff Francoeur blasted a 3-run homer, making it a 4-run game. The Braves tried to claw their way back in the game, cutting the deficit down to 2, but it ultimately wasn't enough.

Final Score:
Pittsburgh 7
Atlanta 5

W: Zach Duke (1-0)
L: Tom Glavine (0-1)
HR: Jeff Francoeur (1)

Nate McLouth 2-5, RBI
Freddy Sanchez 4-5, 2 RBI
Jason Bay 3-5, 3 RBI
Zach Duke 8 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 10 K

Pittsburgh Pirates 1-3 @ Florida Marlins 4-0

April 5, 2008

The 1-3 Pirates took on the red hot Florida Marlins, who won all of their first four games. Phil Dumatrait was given his first start of the young 2008 season. The Pirates kicked off the scoring in the first, when Nate McLouth scored on wild pitch. However, the Marlins played station-to-station baseball, driving in two runs on singles to take a 2-1 lead. The Bucs struck back in the 6th on an RBI double by Jose Bautista. The Marlins got back on top in the bottom of the 6th, with back-to-back RBI singles. In the top of the 7th, Nate Mclouth was the hero again, tying it up with a blast to left field. The game was tied until the 9th, when Jason Bay smashed a 2-run double to deep left center field. Matt Capps was brought in to slam the door, and he did just that.

FINAL SCORE:
Pittsburgh Pirates 6
Florida Marlins 4

W:John Van Benschoten (1-1)
S: Matt Capps (1)
L: Taylor Tankersley (0-1)
HR: Nate McLouth (1)

Nate McLouth 3-5, HR, 2 RBI
Jason Bay 1-4, 2 RBI
Jose Bautista 2-4, RBI
Phil Dumatrait 5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K
John Van Benschoten 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K

So as I was gonna record another game, I realized that my little brother deleted the save file for this log! The 3-file limit strikes again. Sorry about that, guys!
