April Review: Starting Pitching

ImageTikal the Echidna: 0-1, 40 IP, 6 GS, 43 H, 19 R, 17 ER, 13 BB, 18 K, 1.38 K/BB, 4 QS (66.7%), 2 HR, 64 TB, 170 PA, 3.83 ERA, (.277/.333/.410)
Analysis: Tikal has been a workhorse for the Sonics' staff, as she threw a team-leading 40 innings during the month of April (6.2 IP per start). She was a little inconsistent overall- she had some dominant starts (against the Padres and Mets) and some poor ones (3 5-run games). However, she did suffer from some pretty bad luck- Cream the Rabbit got the loss in three of her starts, and she failed to garner run support when she did pitch well- her games against the Padres and Mets yielded a combined 1 run of support. Verdict: B Rank

Robbins: 2-2, 31.2 IP, 5 GS, 27 H, 14 R, 12 ER, 11 BB, 25 K, 2.27 K/BB, 4 QS (80%), 3 HR, 48 TB, 132 PA, 3.41 ERA, (.231/.297/.410)
Analysis: Robbins, who started the season as the #4 starter, had a surprisingly good month. He wasn't dominant, but he was able to lead the Sonics' staff in wins, strikeouts, quality starts, and earned run average during the month. Verdict: B Rank

ImageTails the Fox: 1-3, 29 IP, 5 GS, 45 H, 21 R, 21 ER, 13 BB, 18 K, 1.38 K/BB, 2 QS (40%), 5 HR, 73 TB, 141 PA, 6.52 ERA, (.363/.428/.580)
Analysis: There's no other way to put it: Tails had an absolutely dreadful month of April. After posting quality starts in his first two outings, the wheels came off in his next three, giving up 17 runs and 33 hits in 16.1 innings- good for a 9.37 ERA and all three resulting in a loss. Verdict: E Rank

ImageWave the Swallow: 1-2, 28.1 IP, 6 G, 5 GS, 37 H, 21 R, 16 ER, 9 BB, 19 K, 2.11 K/BB, 2 QS (40%), 4 HR, 58 TB, 132 PA, 5.08 ERA, (.306/.364/.470)
Analysis: Wave had an up-and-down month. She had a few good starts, but a few really ugly ones too- including an 8-run start against San Diego that lasted three innings. She wasn't the worst pitcher on the staff, but there's no doubt that she needs to improve. Verdict: D Rank

Scobie: 1-0, 17 IP, 3 GS, 15 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 4.00 K/BB, 2 QS (66.7%), 1 HR, 22 TB, 63 PA, 1.59 ERA, (.250/.274/.360)
Analysis: Scobie hit the DL after just three starts, but it is impossible to ignore how good those starts were. He gave up just 1 earned run in each of his three starts, and displayed excellent command and good stuff. He should have a spot in the rotation when he gets off the DL. Verdict: A Rank

April Review: Relief Pitching

ImageChip: 0-1, 13.2 IP, 13 G, 6 HLD, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, 3.00 K/BB, 0 HR, 9 TB, 49 PA, 0.66 ERA, (.156/.208/.200)

Analysis: Chip had an absolutely outstanding month of April. He started out as the 7th inning guy, but was made the set-up man due to Cream the Rabbit's struggles. He managed to get 6 holds overall and allowed just 1 earned run in his 13.2 innings. He showcased outstanding stuff and excellent command, and showed that he is a key member of the bullpen. Verdict: S Rank

Inglett: 1-1, 12.1 IP, 6 G, 1 GS, 16 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 6 BB, 7 K, 1.16 K/BB, 1 HR, 22 TB, 59 PA, 5.84 ERA, (.327/.411/.440)
Analysis: Inglett was able to make the team as a long reliever. He didn't have an atrocious month, but he didn't have a good one either, as evidenced by the fact that hitters hit .327 against him. However, due to Scobie's injury, he will be the team's 5th starter during the month of May. Verdict: C Rank

ImageDr. Eggman: 0-0, 12 IP, 12 G, 4-5 SV, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 8.00 K/BB, 3 HR, 18 TB, 44 PA, 3.75 ERA, (.195/.233/.430)
Analysis: Eggman, the teams' closer, had a bit of a strange month. Opponents hit just .195 against him, but he also yielded three home runs in 12 innings- his one blown save came in the bottom of the 10th with a 1-0 lead and two outs against the Mets, when he gave up a solo home run. The home rate against him is too high, and he's going to have to keep it down to keep his job as closer.Verdict: C Rank

ImageChaos: 1-0, 10 IP, 13 G, 1 HLD, 1 BS, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, 0.83 K/BB, 0 HR, 11 TB, 42 PA, 2.70 ERA, (.235/.350/.320)
Analysis: Chaos started out as the teams lefty-specialist, but pitched well enough to take the 7th inning role. While his command isn't great, he makes up for it with high velocity and good breaking pitches.Verdict: A Rank

ImageCream the Rabbit: 0-3, 7.1 IP, 9 G, 3 HLD, 2 BS, 11 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 0.75 K/BB, 1 HR, 17 TB, 35 PA, 8.59 ERA, (.367/.441/.560)
Analysis: Cream started out as the teams 8th-inning girl, but she quickly lost that job after an absolutely pathetic month. She certainly didn't have the stuff that gave her the set-up job at the beginning of the season, as she went 0-3 with 2 blown saves in her 9 appearances, and she gave up a run in 4 of them. She has been banished to Triple-A for the time being. Verdict: E Rank

ImageMephiles the Dark: 0-0, 3 IP, 2 G, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1.33 K/BB, 0 HR, 7 TB, 17 PA, 9.00 ERA, (.357/.471/.500)
Analysis: Signing Mephiles was expected to really bolster the bullpen, however, he struggled by giving up 4 runs in two games, in 8-1 and 11-1 losses. He then got banished to Triple-A. Verdict: E Rank

ImageBig the Cat: 0-1, 2.1 IP, 3 G, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 0.66 K/BB, 1 HR, 9 TB, 14 PA, 15.43 ERA, (.500/.615/.900)
Analysis: Just one quick look at the slash line against him should tell you all you know about how Big pitched before getting banished to Triple A. Verdict: E Rank

Team Pitching: 4.49 ERA, 130 runs allowed, 259 hits allowed, 24 home runs allowed, 143 K, 83 BB

April Review: Starting Lineup

ImageLF- Knuckles the Echidna- 109 AB, 42 H, 10 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 19 RBI, 14 R, 20 K, 7 BB, 63 TB, 116 TPA, (.385/.422/.578)
Analysis: Knuckles was one of baseball's elite hitters during the month of April. He lead the team with 42 hits, 10 doubles, 3 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 63 total bases during the month. His highlight reel included a walk-off two run shot against the Braves in the 11th inning. He ended the month with a 13-game hit streak and 21 game on-base streak.Verdict: S Rank

Image1B- Espio the Chameleon- 86 AB, 33 H, 7 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 11 R, 5 K, 25 BB, 43 TB, 112 TPA, (.384/.518/.500)
Espio's ninja skills clearly carried over to the baseball field, as his patience and self-discipline at the plate was second-to-none. He walked an incredible 25 (22%) times and stuck out just 5 (4.5%) in 112 plate appearances. And he was just as good when he did hit the ball- evidenced by his 33 hits, 7 doubles, 17 RBIs, and 43 total bases (second on the team.) He compliments Knuckles perfectly (could we see a nickname for these guys soon?) Verdict: S Rank

Image3B- Shadow the Hedgehog- 96 AB, 25 H, 8 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 11 R, 18 K, 10 BB, 39 TB, 110 TPA, (.260/.336/.406)
Analysis: Shadow had a mildly disappointing month as the teams' number #3 batter. He wasn't terrible, but he was just sort of average. He is second on the team in doubles (8) and homers (2), but the team is going to want to see more consistency out of the self-proclaimed "ultimate life form." Verdict: C Rank

ImageSS- Sonic the Hedgehog- 82 AB, 20 H, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 9 R, 21 K, 11 BB, 32 TB, 95 TPA, (.244/.340/.390)
Analysis: Sonic got off to an absolutely pathetic start to the month, as he was hitting an abysmal .185 with 0 homers and 5 RBIs going into the final week. He then went on a tear (.470 w/ 2 homers and 5 RBIs) in the final week. It seems like moving him up to second in the order did wonders for his confidence. The speedster also swiped 11 bases on 12 attempts, so imagine what he could do if he hit well? Verdict: D Rank

ImageRF- Silver the Hedgehog- 78 AB, 20 H, 6 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 11 R, 13 K, 14 BB, 29 TB, 93 TPA, (.256/.366/.372)
Analysis: Silver got off to a pretty good start, as he was batting .306 around midway throughout the month. However, he slumped in the latter half of the month, dropping his average down to .256. The psychic hedgehog displayed good discipline, with 14 walks to just 13 strikeouts. However, the team will expect him to swing the bat more like he did earlier in April. Verdict: D Rank

ImageCF- Amy Rose- 75 AB, 21 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 18 R, 17 K, 9 BB, 22 TB, 86 TPA, (.280/.365/.293)
Analysis: Amy had a weird April. Looking at her average, you would think she was very solid throughout the month, that that could not be further from the truth. She got off to an absolutely dreadful start, as she was hitting .135 halfway through the month, and the team began to platoon her with Fussell just to get one of them going. She finally broke through with a 5-hit game against the Mets, and, like Sonic, had a terrific final week of the season (.478 average). Her 18 runs lead the team. Verdict: C Rank

Image2B- Charmy Bee- 64 AB, 11 H, 2 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 10 R, 12 K, 12 BB, 13 TB, 77 TPA, (.172/.303/.203)
Analysis: Charmy started the season as a utility infielder on the bench, but when Blaze the Cat got injured, he became the teams' starting second baseman. He uhh... didn't respond well. He hit .385 midway through the month, but ended the month in a 4-46 slump (.087). While he brought some good baserunning, the team desperately needs him to swing the bat better. Verdict: E Rank

ImageC- Vector the Crocodile- 56 AB, 15 H, 3 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 11 RBI, 1 R, 11 K, 3 BB, 18 TB, 59 TPA, (.268/.305/.321)
Analysis: The leader of the Chaotix didn't put up outstanding numbers at first glance, but one number stands out: 11 RBIs. That is an incredible number, considering he split time with Mills behind the dish. He had plenty of clutch hits throughout the month, and he's earned himself the majority of starts at catcher. Verdict: C Rank

There's a lot of factors I've used to draw walks. I don't swing at many first pitches, and I don't use lock-on, so I foul off some pitches. Also, Shadow and Knuckles have intimidator, which I believe lessens the opposing pitchers control and drains their stamina.

And thanks man. I'll analyze the the hitters tomorrow.

April Review: Reserves/Pitchers hitting:

C- Mills- 38 AB, 6 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, 18 K, 7 BB, 7 TB, 49 TPA, (.158/.327/.184)
Analysis: Mills split time at catcher with Vector during the month. He had a pretty atrocious month unfortunately, as he struck out way too many times in his limited at-bats. Verdict: E Rank

CF- Fussell- 45 AB, 7 H, 2 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 3 K, 4 BB, 12 TB, 49 TPA, (.156/.224/.267)
Fussell didn't exactly endear himself to fans after he got off to a 1-21 start. He did improve in the latter half , going 6-24 (.250) with a home run, but he's still going to have to improve to keep his job. Verdict: E Rank

Image2B- Blaze the Cat- 36 AB, 13 H, 2 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 6 R, 4 K, 2 BB, 17 TB, 39 TPA, (.361/.395/.472)
Analysis: Blaze got off to a great start to the season before she broke her collarbone sliding into home during a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. She hit .361 and ran the bases well (6 runs, 5 stolen bases). She should be back in the lineup near the end of May. Verdict: A Rank

ImageUT- Omega- 37 AB, 8 H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 9 K, 1 BB, 14 TB, 38 TPA, (.216/.237/.378)
E-123 Omega surprised many when he went from scorching hot (7-10, 1 HR, 3 RBIs) to freezing cold (1-27) midway through the month. If he can get out of this slump and back to how he hit in his first ten at-bats, the Sonics could have a great bat to use off the bench later in games. Verdict: C Rank

3B- Riley- 24 AB, 4 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, 7 K, 1 BB, 8 TB, 25 TPA, (.167/.200/.333)

SS- Gettis- 20 AB, 2 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 6 K, 1 BB, 3 TB, 21 TPA, (.100/143/.150)

ImageP- Tikal the Echidna- 9 AB, 2 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 3 K, 1 BB, 3 TB, 13 TPA, (.222/.300/.333)

ImageP- Wave the Swallow- 10 AB, 2 H, 0 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 3 K, 0 BB, 2 TB, 12 TPA, (.200/.200/.200)

P- Robbins- 11 AB, 0 H, 0 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 7 K, 0 BB, 0 TB, 11 TPA, (.000/.000/.000)
ImageP- Tails the Fox- 7 AB, 1 H. 0 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 TB, 10 TPA, (.143/.250/.143)

Team Batting: .260 AVG, 106 runs scored, 233 hits, 12 HR
