Sonics option All-Star relief pitcher Dr. Eggman
San Jose-- In a surprise move today, the team announced that Dr. Eggman has been optioned to Triple-A, with Mephiles the Dark being recalled from Triple-A to take his spot. Eggman made the all-star team due to getting off to a great start (1.89 ERA, 20-22 SVs), but he recently had an awful roadtrip in which he went 0-4 with a 27.03 ERA and 4 blown saves. The team said he was feeling "purple," and they need him to get back the stuff that made him an all star in the first place. The Sonics also want to see how Mephiles does in more action. Mephiles hasn't played since April, when he gave up 3 runs in 3 innings. The team wanted to recall him earlier, but the emergence of Fruto in the 'pen meant he had to wait a little longer.

Sonics ready for All Star game
New York- The All Star game is coming up in a few days. Here's what you should know about which Sonics made the team, and which ones got snubbed:

Who made it: Knuckles and Eggman
Analysis: Knuckles is an obvious choice as an outfielder for the all star team. He's been one of baseball's elite sluggers, batting .341 with 15 home runs and 69 RBIs, with an OPS of .965. The only pitcher to get selected is Eggman, believe it or not. Eggman is 0-4 with and ERA of 4.06, going 20-26 in save opportunities. Of course, his very recent performance skews these numbers a bit, as he was 0-0 with an ERA of 1.89 and 20-22 on saves when he was voted in by the managers.

Who got snubbed: Silver and Espio
Analysis: Silver the Hedgehog is an obvious choice. The psychokinetic hedgehog has been a monster at the plate since his slow start, and is hitting .310 with 15 home runs and 60 RBIs, and an OPS of .949. As you can see, those numbers are really similar to Knuckles, who made the team. The other snub was Espio the Chameleon. Espio has been terrific at the plate, with 73 walks at the break. He's hitting .313 with 8 home runs and 49 RBIs, for an OPS of .917, and his defense at first has been great, with only 2 errors.
