Game 163 Preview

Image @ Image

The Brewers and Sonics, who both ended the year with a record of 89-73, will be facing each other tomorrow night to determine the winner of the National League wildcard. Here's a look at some matchups and what each team brings to the table:

Milwaukee Brewers:
Starter: Ben Sheets (19-6, 2.22 ERA, 347 K)- The Brewers' stud ace had an outstanding season, and he will be the one on the hill for the Brewers tomorrow night. He faced the Sonics once all season, a game in which the Brewers won, 2-1.

Pitching overall/Bullpen: 710 runs allowed- The Brewers had one of the top pitching staffs on the season, sporting very little weaknesses overall. They have a very deep bullpen the Sonics will have to look out for- Carlos Villanueva, Solomon Torres, Francisco Cordero, and trade additions Jose Valverde and Kevin Cameron are a few names to look out for. However, the Sonics' lineup was able to crush them for 36 runs in a 3 game sweep in August, so they will definitely have experience.

Batting: 737 runs scored- The Brewers offense is lead by two of the games young, elite talented hitters- Prince Fielder (.278, 47 homers, 120 RBI) and Ryan Braun (.312, 38 homers, 103 RBI). Corey Hart is also a force to be reckoned with (.293, 20 homers, 87 RBIs) and JJ Hardy is coming off a down year (.258, 15 homers, 50 RBIs), but is a talented player. Rickie Weeks (43 steals) can be trouble on the basepaths. The lineup outside of that is relatively weak, especially with Bill Hall being dealt mid season.

San Jose Sonics:
Starter: Wave the Swallow (10-9, 4.79 ERA, 89 K)- The Sonics' pitcher definitely has not put up the numbers that Sheets has, but she's managed to post a 9-4 record since June against some pretty hard hitting teams. The Sonics will be hoping that she can at least keep the game close if Sheets manages to shutdown the Sonics offense.

Pitching Overall/Bullpen: 750 runs allowed- The Sonics pitching has been much better in the second half, with some key additions out of the bullpen, such as Mephiles the Dark (5-1, 3.15 ERA) and Big the Cat (3-1, 4.08 ERA). They also have a strong back end of the 'pen with Doctor Eggman (3-5, 2.98 ERA) and Chip (4-2, 2.10 ERA).

Batting: 851 runs scored- The Sonics clearly have the advantage on offense in this one. Knuckles the Echidna has put up MVP-caliber numbers (.340, 36 homers, 135 RBIs) and the supporting cast around him is great, with some impressive stats throughout, including but not limited to Silver the Hedgehog (.292, 29 homers, 116 RBIs), Shadow the Hedgehog (.299, 25 homers, 110 RBIs), Sonic the Hedgehog (.287, 24 homers, 98 RBIs), Espio the Chameleon (.320, 16 homers, 89 RBIs), and Metal Sonic (.304, 11 homers, 51 RBIs). The Sonics will need this offense to keep rolling if the want a chance to beat Ben Sheets.

Do you have predictions for the game? Let me know!

Yeah it was, but this entire playoff race was nerve-wracking xD

So question: I'm thinking of doing a player by player breakdown of their season, or would you guys rather have me do the playoffs first.

Also, I'll do a write-up on the wild card game too.

Post subject:  Re: San Jose Sonics- A Season Log

I would say do the playoffs first. That way you could have commentary about how they performed in the playoffs, especially relative to their regular seasons. (I.e. if your ace went cold in the playoffs, or a bench player went on a big hot streak)
