Post season news has arrived, our first mention is that Keith Foulke has decided to retire. Winning 2 World Series titles in his career - his first ring in 2004 with the Red Sox and his 2nd ring with us last year, we wish him best of luck with everything.
.
.
.
As for awards, the Rays had 5 winners:

ERA title - Scott Kazmir (2nd)
Wins title - James Shields
Cy Young - Scott Kazmir (2nd)
Rookie of the Year - David Price
Silver Slugger (OF) - Jonny Gomes

.
.
.
.
For contract negotiations, 3 players can walk to free agency:
Scott Kazmir
John Smoltz
Danys Baez
(Rays have a lot of players with arbitration years in effect)

Team payroll cap has a slight increase 84000 --> 84750,,, +500 from inflation, +250 for team success (would be more if team went on to win more playoff games).

Contract negotiations have finished, here are some of the bigger events over the past month:

Scott Kazmir - 5 year 20000 contract with a full no-trade clause
BJ Upton - 2 year 8500 contract (bridge deal)
Ryan Garko - 1 year 3800 contract
.
.
Danys Baez - was not resigned
John Smoltz - was not resigned
Dioner Navarro - declared FA
.
.
rest of the players had basic contract increases (somewhere between 10-500)
.
.
Rays payroll/cap - 84720/84750

cutting that really close lol
.
.
Kazmir's contract gives him the 4th highest Average Annual Value (AAV) in the MLB (2nd highest for pitchers) trailing behind Ian Kinsler (22000), Johan Santana (22920), and A-Rod (27000)
.
we will provide updates on any trades and signings over the next few weeks

the devs really *(censored)* up because the total worth of that 5 year deal he signed in 2008 was $22 million (about 4.5 per year)

A brand new season is under way, the Rays did not sign or make any roster moves over the past few months. Another news story is that BJ Upton has changed his name, and will now go by Melvin Upton Jr.. Luke Rush will now become the team's back up catcher since Navarro left and signed with the Rockies.
.
.
Below is the MLB roster that the coaching staff has put together.

The Rays won their home opener by the score 4-0, against the Red Sox. Kazmir showed he is worth that 100000 contract, spinning a CGSO with 9 K. Votto - while going an excellent 3/3 - hit the team's first home run of 2011, a 2-run shot in the 7th inning which effectively knocked Beckett out of the game.
.
.
The Rays winning window seems mostly likely on the closing side as they might lose a decent amount of key players this off-season. Their tight cap ceiling would be the culprit but they've managed well so far. Hopefully the players can present that they really want a pay raise after this season.

The Rays handed a loss to the Orioles; at one point in the game they scored at least 1 run in 5 straight innings. Gomes went yard in the 4th, and Iwamura had his own solo shot in the 6th inning. The Rays' bullpen seemed a little shaky at the end of the game, but their lead was big enough to have a nice cushion. The Rays are settled in 1st place in the AL east.

Wow, Day has been great with the Orioles.

I guess I’ll take Gemoll as an agent. I’m curious to see his abilities

BBteen actually claimed him back on 11/7 (through discord DM). My fault, i just forgot to update the sport agent post since i wasn't home at the time. but i can show his stats anyways

His speed and defense are great, if he can even hit around average he’ll become worthy of that 1st pick.

Shields was surgical in a win against the White Sox. The Rays pounded the first 3 Sox pitchers to enter the game, by scoring at least 2 runs against them. Orvella gave up a lead-off solo shot to Dye in the 9th, but failed to complete the inning as he allowed 3 more runs. Dohmann entered and struck out Swisher on straight 3 heaters. Even though Orvella may be struggling, he may still have a leash as the Rays are the only team above .500 in the AL East at the moment.
