News Paper Headline Thing

The Rays released their roster for the playoffs as they switch over to a 4-person rotation. Not too many changes with the batting order as only a few players were either moved up or down.
Their management informed us that this pitching and hitting staff are subject to drastic changes (movement in order, rotation, roles, etc) throughout the playoffs as needed.

also i'll probably only be posting all elimination games that the Rays' are in

Kazmir about to get paaaaiiid this offseason.

Shields did well too.

Gomes .838 OPS and 91 RBI+84 R. Love to see it.

Jeter 157 RBI! Wow.

Gotta love two guys hitting .380+.

Crawford is proud of his league-leading 41 SB, as well as leading the team in many other categories like SLG. He looks forward to leading the offense on this playoff run.

Jackson is disappointed with his performance, but okay since he did make the playoff roster, albeit as a mop-up reliever. He hopes to pitch better in the following season.

Riggans and Votto are happy with their stats, especially Riggans with 10 triples. It seems he has a new nickname, "Wheels McGee 2.0".

Elliot Johnson is of course happy with his numbers! .271/.300/.438 is a great slash line but he hopes he can take on an expanded role in the future!

News Paper Headline Thing

After going up 2 games to 0 on the Indians. The Rays swept them winning 2-0; which now means the Rays move on to the ALCS!

Chuck James was masterful and threw a 6 hit shutout complete game. Gomes and Longo managed to put the only Rays' runs on the board earlier in the game which held the lead for the rest of the game.

In other surprising news, the 2 teams with the highest record both managed to get knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round: NY Yankees (99-63) & NY Mets (99-63).
The Rays had very minimal success against the Yankees all season so this may have helped their chances at winning the AL pennant.

Because the Rays had a few days off, they realigned their rotation to skip Sonnanstine (4), putting Kazmir (1) back on the mound to pitch Game 1 of the ALCS. It is not yet known if
the Rays will trade places with Shields (2) and James (3) after the latter's incredible performance.

The Rays once again swept another playoff series, winning 5-4, and now advance to the World Series!
The first 3 games against the Angels ended in:
4-3 win
5-0 win
3-0 win

Game 4 was much more hectic as the Rays had to climb back up to tie the game 3 separate times. Sonnanstine was pulled early only completing 1.2 IP. Cueto was called upon in anticipation of the game dragging out. Gomes gave the Rays' a huge morale boost by cranking a 2-run shot in the top of the 6th to tie the game for the 3rd time. Cueto later found himself giving up back-to-back hits in the bottom of the 9th. Andy Mills successfully avoided the loss by getting 3 straight outs. A interesting move was made to have Edwin Jackson come in for the save where he also found himself with 2 runners on with 2 outs. Kendrick ripped one to center field but Upton was able to track it down to end the game.

The Rays and the Dbacks face off in the World Series. Scott Kazmir and Max Scherzer are expected to be the Game 1 starters for each team. Since the NL won the All-Star Game, the Rays will potentially have 1 less home game (if needed) so a win within the first 2 games could be a huge boost.

THE RAYS HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES! They once again swept their opponent beating the Dbacks in 4 games. The magical run that the Rays put together ended with the best outcome. (11-0 in the playoffs)

Sonnanstine
was replaced - in the 6th - after he gave up a 2-run home run to Connor Jackson extending the Dbacks' lead to 3-0. Waino came in and settled the storm rather quickly. On the other side Randy Johnson had a perfect game through 5.1 innings until Longo got himself a base knock. Crawford drove him in to break the ice. The next inning (7th), the Rays put 2 runners on when Aybar became the most favorable player in the clubhouse by slugging the go ahead 3-run homerun. Andy Mills was called upon to get an extended save since Waino gave up a hit in the 8th. A. Miller had no issues and eventually secured the Rays' first World Series title in franchise history.

With a few big names about to hit free agency, it might be tough for the Rays to be able to defend their WS title in 2009.
