The draft is also 2 rounds in MLB Life.

No, he means at the start, where you chose what round you got drafted in. You have a choice of round 1-5. That's what he wants in the season draft.

In my MLB Life mode they drafted a guy with a 98 mph fastball, D control, B stamina, and good breakers. Best pitcher I've ever seen in the draft.

How well did your team do the previous year?

It was my first year, and I was playing for the Rockies.

The question is, do they ever use him? I know that in MLB Life, sometimes, they disregard the player you befriend, even if he is the better draft pick of the two you get to befriend.

Bump to say that when screwing around with expansion teams, the other team got a guy with C CTRL, B STAM, 97 TOP SPD, 2 2SFB, 4 SLD, 2 CB, 4 KNCB, and 4 FORK. No joke.

I have seen two Gyroballers, and both were absolutely loaded. 96-98 MPH / 115+ STAM / 135+ CTRL / 2SFB / 1-3 Lvl 5 pitches / 2-4 Lvl 4 pitches / several pitching abilities. Unfortunately, both went with the first pick so I didn't get either. Every 5-10 drafts will produce a non-Gyroballer similar to the above, however.

Also, the novelty pitchers who have 60 STAM / 80 CTRL / and 1-3 Lvl 6 pitches are a blast to use and once their CTRL is boosted to 100+, they dominate sims as well.

I have drafted a handful of desirous "Triple 10" catchers (10 in ARM / FLD / ERES) and one "Quad Blue" catcher (Trash Talk / Grt C / Gd Block / Throwing 4). Should I ever find a "Triple Quad 10 Blue" catcher, I might pee myself. Scratch that - I will definitely pee myself.

For shortstops, my personal favorite is the "All Yellow" shortstop who looks something like: 2 / 8 / 100 / 8 / 9 / 9 / 9 / Contact Hitter / Table Setter / Throwing 4. The combination of Contact Hitter / Table Setter is particularly devastating during simulations - none of the default players have Table Setter. The next best option is the "Triple 10" SS (10 ARM / FLD / ERES). His POW and SPD will be decent, but but his CON will be weak.

The best 3B I encounter will have 3 TRJ, 140-170 POW, 7-9 ARM / ERES (7-9), and 4-6 CON / SPD / FLD. For whatever reason, Gd Bunt is a popular blue ability for 3B which doesn't exactly jive with the prototype.

I rarely draft OF's, and the RF position is the only OF position worth drafting. The best of the best will have 3 TRJ / 110+ POW / 8-9 SPD / 5-8 everywhere else, plus one or two rarely used skills such as Tough Runner / Headfirst Slide / Breakup DP / Spider Catch.

The studliest 1B prospects have the 140-170 POW of the aforementioned 3B. Unfortunately, a parking meter would play better defense and might even run faster. No gracias. I would rather draft a 3B, C, RF or SS and convert him to 1B.

The best 2B looks similar to the worst SS, but only after he was thrown in a hole and starved for a month. No gracias. Again, a converted SS, RF, C or 3B is preferable.

The best LF looks similar to the worst 2B x a bazillion. A bazillion is a lot.

Note that all of the "best" players I mentioned are somewhere between rare and extremely rare. When I get bored, I will sim the Rays to the Draft and then S/L the draft to see what kind of players I can find. I have done 100's, maybe even 1,000+ drafts.

I got two great pitchers in a Season with the Braves, their picks were in the middle of the rounds.

1st Round Pitcher: C, B, 4, 4, 5, 90+ FB. No Blue abilities. Great starter, immediatly put into rotation.

2nd Round: D, B, 3, 3, 4, 85ish FB. No Blue. Good swing man, great 2nd round steal.

I then traded for a 3B/1B (converted spring training) that's currently EDEEEE after one year. With, Gd Bunt

*EDIT* I've actualy become very interested in studying the draft picks, and why they have certain abilities and such. I traded for a FFFEDF Cent Fielder, BUT he had duarbility 4, Rally Hitter, Clutch Hit 5, and Spider Catch. I traded for him using an extra corner infielder prospect from the last draft. I mostly draft Pitchers, because by the time I pick with my later picks do to regular season success, all the obvious good fielders are gone. You can't tell Blue Abilites from the draft either, so you often are suprised later on.

Abilities I've seen often.
-Sparkplug
-Star
-Gd Block/Gd Catcher
-Gd Bunt/Bunt Master
-Spider Catch.

This is the rare time someone has blue abilites, a few red ones like Hot Head and w/ RISP 2 are around as well.

Funny, I've only done a few drafts, but decided to ignore pitchers when picking in later rounds, b/c you can find similar stats on undrafted pitchers right after the draft, but there are never any undrafted position players, so I'll take a chance on a fielder, at least in round 1.

I usually go for a ss

Not the best draft pick I've ever seen:

1st Round (12th ovr.) - RF
3 TRJ.
E con.
D pwr.
D run spd.
E arm str.
E fld.
E E res.
Throwing 4

But the guy put up nice numbers in his rookie year in my A's season, primarily batting 5th or 6th:
90 G, 315 AB, .324 AVG., 6 2B, 5 3B, 10 HR, 56 RBI, 5 SB.

I got a player in one of my Success Modes:

TRJ: 3 (I believe)
CON: D
PWR: C
RUN: E (Now I'm just guessing)
ARM: D
FLD: D
E-RES: E

And the thing is, he's a gray-bar RF.
