The Venom sit in a tie for 1st place in their division, they should enjoy this while it lasts, as history indicates it probably won't last long once teams start playing games, but who knows, this could be their year.

April 3rd:

Baltimore Orioles (0-0) at Nashville Venom (0-0)

The Venom lose. The opening day headline has been one that the Venom have been all too familiar with these past couple years. Down 3-0, the Venom were able to string something together with 4 hits and 3 runs, opened up by Henry Aaron's first career hit, a leadoff home run, they had the game tied. Feeling optimistic, they brought in one of their set-up men in for the 8th inning, but Meredith allowed two home runs, including Soriano's second of the game, giving up a 5-3 lead that the Orioles held onto.

Orioles: 5
Venom: 3

Win: Sherill (1-0)
Save: F.Cabrera (1)
Loss: Meredith (0-1)
HR: Aaron (1), A.Soriano (1,2), G.Johnson (1)

Venom Box Score:

Stewart: 0-4, RBI
Grindell: 0-4, 2 K
Utley: 2-4
Aaron: 1-4, HR, RBI, R
Sanchez: 1-4, R
Stults: 1-4
Trammell: 1-4, RBI, R
Roma: 2-4
Butron: 0-3, BB

Tremie: 5.1 innings pitched, 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 strikeout
Palmer: 1.2 innings pitched, 3 hits, 1 run, 0 strikeouts
Meredith: 2 innings pitched, 3 hits, 2 runs, 0 strikeouts, loss

April 10th:

Nashville Venom (4-3) at Cleveland Indians (4-3)

Both teams entered the game looking to end it with a record above .500, but one team had to fall back down there. It was the Venom, who had no offense. Gary pitched in just his second start, and had a quality game, aside from the 3rd inning, where he allowed 5 runs. It started off with some bad fielding and a lack of toughness giving up runs for him, then he lost his composure and it was a circus until he was lucky enough to get outs.

Venom: 1
Indians: 5

Win: Lackey (1-0)
Loss: Gary (1-1)
HR: Hafner (2)

Venom Box Score:

Stewart: 1-4
Grindell: 1-4
Utley: 0-4, R
Aaron: 1-4
Sanchez: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Stults: 0-4, K
Trammell: 1-3
Roma: 0-3
Butron: 1-3

Gary: 7 innings pitched, 9 hits, 5 runs, 2 strikeouts, loss
McGlinchy: 1 inning pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 strikeout

You'll do what now?

Oh! Right, agents are in this log. It's been so long since they've come up I completely forgot. I'll add that in.

End of April:

Venom's Henry Aaron won Rookie of the Month with a .344 average, 5 home runs, and 30 RBIs. Utley won a Player of the Week award for Week 2 with a .600 average, 2 home runs, and 12 RBIs.

AL East:

1. Yankees, 19-8
2. Orioles, 17-10, 2 games behind
3. Red Sox, 15-12, 4 games behind
4. Venom, 14-13, 5 games behind
5. Rays, 9-18, 10 games behind
6. Blue Jays, 9-18, 10 games behind

The Venom had a pretty decent overall first month of the season, actually finishing a month over .500 for the first time since... Probably ever. They'll need to catch some winning streaks somewhere along the line if they want to stay competitive in the division standings, but if they can't, a season over .500 would be a notable improvement if they can maintain it.

The Wings are 13-14, but that's just 3 games behind in their division.

Player Stats:

Tremie: 3.07 ERA, 1-2 record, 18 strikeouts
Gary: 3.62 ERA, 1-2 record, 27 strikeouts
Stanley: 6.67 ERA, 2-2 record, 30 strikeouts
Snead: 3.76 ERA, 3-1 record, 24 strikeouts
Reid: 4.12 ERA, 2-2 record, 17 strikeouts
Hampson: 4.81 ERA, 2-0 record, 17 strikeouts

Ishizuka: 0.00 ERA, 0-0 record, 4 strikeouts
Asencio: 7.11 ERA, 3-0 record, 11 strikeouts
Palmer: 22.5 ERA, 0-0 record, 0 strikeouts, 1 save
McGlinchy: 4.40 ERA, 0-0 record, 9 strikeouts
Clontz: 5.87 ERA, 0-0 record, 10 strikeouts
Meredith: 7.84 ERA, 0-2 record, 8 strikeouts

Benoit: 8.59 ERA, 0-2 record, 10 strikeouts, 4 saves

Stewart: .239 avg, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 3 SB
Grindell: .264 avg, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 2 SB
Utley: .409 avg, 4 HR, 24 RBI, 1 SB
Aaron: .344 avg, 5 HR, 30 RBI, 2 SB
Sanchez: .309 avg, 4 HR, 38 RBI, 1 SB
Stults: .263 avg, 1 HR, 13 RBI, 2 SB
Trammell: .360 avg, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 1 SB
Roma: .237 avg, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 0 SB
Butron: .179 avg, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB

Ormond: .375 avg, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 SB
Deardorff: .143 avg, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 0 SB
Rivas: .292 avg, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 SB

---

Pitching remains an inconsistency on the Venom roster, but the hitting has apparently had some inconsistency issues as well, considering they have a pitcher with an ERA over 7 with a 3-0 record.

Stewart's slow start is a bit of cause for concern for the team, batting just around .240 to start the season, he needs to get on base more to give the team more chances to drive him in. The bottom hitters of their lineup in Roma and Butron have been struggling to get on base as well, leaving it to the heart of the order to try to get most of the offense done. Aaron has done well in his first month, leading the team in home runs, and having pretty good RBI and average numbers as well.

Gary has had a decent Rookie month pitching, just not getting much run support to lead to a 1-2 record, but he had 27 strikeouts, in the month, which nearly lead the team (he probably would lead the team if I didn't play one of his starts, it's impossible to get strikeouts in played games). Tremie has showed he deserves the #1 pitching spot, leading the team with an ERA around 3, but his lacking run support got him a1-2 record as well.

30 RBI in a month? That's crazy for a rookie.

Chase Utley is happy to win Player of the Week, as well as contribute to the team.

Not when you're maxed out.
