I want Marcus McElroy. He's starting, right?

Yep, he'll be starting in left field and probably batting second.

I looked over the front page of the newspaper in front of me. "Diamondbacks Swept by Cards," it read. I read some of the article beneath it. After describing the series, the writer went into detail about the regular season.

"A 98-64 record, six games better than the record of last year's World Series squad, propelled the Diamondbacks to a second consecutive NL West title. Led by starting pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling, in addition to outfielder Luis Gonzalez, the team used the same recipe for success as last year under new GM Matt Weaver. Weaver was fairly conservative in his decision-making, doing very little to change the team. And who can blame him? As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The only notable move made by the youngest GM in history was the acquisition of outfielder Quinton McCracken, who had a nice season, batting .309 in 349 at-bats."

It felt weird to read about myself like that, but he wasn't wrong; I had made it a goal to just let the players play. After all, the squad I started with was just about identical to the one who had won the World Series.

I declared my first season a success and threw the newspaper away.

September 2nd, 1998

My first day of classes.

It was 8:30 in the morning, and I was heading to Econ 101 with Preston at my side. It was the only class we had together, but we were lucky to have just one on such a large campus. We arrived at the large lecture hall where about a hundred other students were already scattered around. We found two seats in the middle of the room and sat down.

Class started at 9:00, and a girl walked in two minutes late, much to her embarrassment. The professor made a big show of it, and she was blushing as she made her way up to Preston and mine's row.

"Mind if I sit here?" she asked quietly. I couldn't help but notice she was cute.
"No problem," I said smoothly, and she plopped her books down.

"Now that everyone is here," the professor began, eyeing the girl next to me. He went on to give an introduction to the class that was, to be honest, quite boring. About ten minutes in, I turned to the girl next to me.

"I'm Matt," I told her.
"Melissa," she replied.
I tried to be witty. "You weren't late enough," I said, "You didn't miss the boring part."
"When should I come to miss that?"
"From what I can tell, you'd have to skip."
She started to laugh, and I joined in until we were interrupted by the professor.

"Excuse me, do we have a problem?" he asked.
Melissa and I shared a look.
"No, sir," I assured him.
"Interesting," he said back. "What, then, was so funny?"
I glanced at Melissa, who had taken to staring at her feet.
"Nothing, sir," I promised.
"Is it all right with you two if I get back to my lecture?"
Melissa clearly was not going to say a thing. I took charge once more.
"Yes, professor."
"Good."

I looked around the lecture hall. All eyes were on me and Melissa. She continued to stare at her feet, and I could feel my face redden. If the professor had intended to embarrass us, he had certainly succeeded. To my left, Preston shook his head at me with a sly smirk on his face. I gave him a look that said, "Not funny." All three of us were silent for the rest of the class.

So, I was thinking it over, and I think I'll start to do 2-3 updates for each timeline, rather than jumping around for each update. Doing it this way is getting kind of confusing; even I'm having to go back and read past updates.

Also, are people getting impatient? I could always speed things up and get to the start of the season by next week if people are losing interest. If not, I'll just keep taking it slow.

It's been fine imo. I follow almost every log so it's good to have some time between updates.

Oops, I meant advancing the date more for each update (having only a few more before it becomes April).

Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Sure, it's fine to advance the story if you feel the need to.

I think the pacing of the story is perfect the way it is.

The flashbacks were getting confusing, though.

I say go in chronological order from here on out.

I didn't mind the flashbacks all that much, and found it fairly easy to follow.

That's because of all the behind-the-scenes help though...

Hmm... what exactly do you mean?

I still need to complete these past two timelines, in order to explain some things, but do you have any suggestions as to how it could be done better?

I was agreeing with what you said. Didn't you mean you weren't going to be jumping around in the timeline?

I'll still be jumping around, just not as much.

A little late, but I would like to represent Wilson.
