Does anyone know why the max number of players you can have is 44? It kinda seems like an odd number

Actually, 44 is an even number.

I'd guess because you have your 40-man roster for Spring Training and September, plus the 4 spots for possibly a backup pitcher, catcher, infielder, and outfielder.

There is probably an explanation using 16-bit math, but how you get to the answer 44 . . . I have no idea.

44 players x 30 teams = 1,320 players (not divisible by 16)
1,320 players + 25 free agents = 1,345 players (still not divisible by 16)
1,345 players + ??? Success Mode player slots = ??? players (divisible by 16?)
