If you remember last time I made an entry, we lost out on another World Series in 2016. The Dodgers took it in seven games and I made a big effort to restack the league's best team and reach the upper echelon again. We've started Spring Training and the position battles have begun.

Eagles Practice Update
RP Perkins: top spd. ↑ 99 MPH (now working on CTRL)
SP C.Stewart: PALM ↑ Lv.3 (now working on SLV)
IF J.Ryan: E RES ↑ 8 (D) (working on fielding)

In transaction news, the Padres traded SS Clint Barmes (.297/1/38) to the Mariners for P Cesar Jimenez (5.44 ERA) back on the 18th.

The Eagles open up their 6th season with a roster that will surely be in flux. The tentative roster is below.

There's plenty of talent on the outside looking in, who could become trade bait.

OF Michael Saunders (3/A/D/B/B/B/B)

1B/3B Kevin Barker (2/E/C/E/D/F/D)

LHP Scott Downs (92/D/E)
RHP Jake Peavy (95/C/B)
RHP Casey Janssen (95/C/D)
LHP Jonny Venters (99/C/E)

And the top prospects on the farm:
#1 2B Jose Altuve (24 yrs. old, 2/B/C/C/E/C/C)
#2 RHP Sean Haynes (25 yrs. old, 98/D/B)
#3 IF Jack Ryan (25 yrs. old, 3/B/F/B/C/D)
#4 LHP Xavier Jarana (26 yrs. old, 95/D/B)

LHP Cole Stewart (98/D/B), OF Mike Schoening (3/B/E/B/D/C/C), and OF Felix Camacaro (3/B/E/B/C/C/C) would be considered but they are no longer prospects at 28 and 27 years old.

Predictions: Boston look like bottom-feeders again. Toronto's hitters will help their pitching to at least third or second in the division. Yankees are as old as ever and will rely on their high-powered offense to pull them ahead. Orioles have youth on their side but the staff isn't quite there yet. Rays maintain solid throwers and the offense is decent, they should provide good competition.

For the sake of getting through the season, I'll play a game a series like usual but keep the descriptions short on the games I sim.

AT TB:
4/3: W 7-4
4/4: L 3-2 (SIMMED)

W - E.Hernandez (1-0) | L - F.Hernandez (0-1) | SV - Valverde (1)
An Upton homer was the edge in a close loss for King Felix.

*Scott Downs' CB and Peavy's slider increased to Lv.4 through practice.
*Houston blew out St. Louis, 23-5!
*New Jersey is reportedly discussing a trade with an NL team, trading one of their veterans.

AT BAL:
4/5: W 5-3 (SIMMED)
4/6: W 2-1 (SIMMED)

RP Casey Janssen (95/C/D) has been traded to the San Diego Padres for C prospect Shinsuke Hirayama (D/D/F/E/D/D). Janssen will assume the closer role for the Friars while Hirayama will be assigned to AAA. At just 21 and 3 years into the league, the Japanese backstop looks like he'll be a good hitter and already fields well. His arm strength and run speed will need some work but he's low on the depth chart at the moment.

(2-0) Eagles @ Orioles (0-2)

Andrew Brooks was uncharacteristically ineffective vs the Orioles on Game 5 out of 162. Angel Pagan drove in two runs with a double as part of a messy 4-run first inning from Brooks. After the Eagles went down in order, Nick Markakis singled a run home for his second hit. At 5-0, it was looking dismal for NJ's offense and Brooks pitched cumbersome at best. Hunter Pence lit a fire under his team with a 3-run, 419 ft. slam in the 3rd. The hits kept coming for the New Jersey lefty while Troy Patton shuffled around the good guys' effort. Matt Moore was sent into duty in the 5th and conceded a home run to Nate McLouth soon after. Reliever Yusmeiro Petit entered in the 6th and was clear until the 8th when Chris Davis thumped a solo shot to left. Mike Olt smacked a runner home for an RBI single but Jim Johnson and Junge (96/D/C) weathered the storm. Robinson Cano and Hunter Pence reached with 1 down in the 9th but the former was out at second on Hunter's hit. Josh Hamilton singled him over but Davis could not push the runner home, ending in a 6-5 loss. Markakis was a thorn in the Eagles' side, unrelenting on each of his five at-bats.

Player of the Game: Pagan - RBI 1B was first run of the game + Markakis - 5 for 5 with 2 doubles

Final Score:
Orioles: 6
Eagles: 5

W - Patton (1-0) | L - Brooks (0-1) | SV - Junge (1)
HR: McLouth (1), Pence (2), C.Davis (1)

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Apr. 1 to Apr. 7)

Ah the smell of fine cut grass in the morning. It's baseball season again, and we've kicked off week one! What's the haps around the bigs in our first few games?

Detroit's hefty and lovable Prince Fielder tore the cover off the ball, slamming 5 homers out of the park alongside a .421 avg and 17 RBIs. Near 40 year-old Ryan Dempster of the Rangers still gets it done, racking up 10 Ks in a win while allowing no runs.

ImageImage

J.D. Martinez joins the ranks and his .500/5/13 line is worthy of it; the Astros need him to be a building block for their future. Lastly, fellow outfielder Andre Ethier (Dodgers) is shining under the Chavez Ravine lights with a .526 BA, 3 homers, and 5 runs driven in.

It's gonna be another topsy-turvy year with regards to player streaks, no doubt. Stay tuned for further updates as we jump-start 2017!
