Bud Selig, the Commissioner of the MLB has been feuding with the MLBPA for the past few years, and after failed meetings, trying to come to terms about drug testing and banned substances the MLBPA has done the unthinkable, they have disbanned the MLB entirely and branched off to form a new league, called the Small Market Baseball League, or the SMBL. They chose to call it the SMBL because most of the teams are in smaller cities than what the MLB teams were. Unlike the MLB, the SMBL will have 32 teams instead of the 30 that the MLB had. One of these teams will be the Oklahoma City Stampede, Owned by 43 year old Grant Bryant. The Stampede are the early favorites to win the first ever league title this year, ESPN has said "The Stampede can easily win 80% of their games just because of their lock down pitching." Below is a list of some of the key players on the Stampede's team.

SP- KK Jennings: Don't let his kind eyes and Santa Claus like beard fool you, this guy is a nightmare for batters with his devasting upper 90's fastball and he can back it up with a nasty changeup. KK looks to compete for the Ace role on the team with Rex Fury.

SP- Rex Fury: Rex Fury has all the makings to turn into an all-star in this league, with his triple digit fastball combined with his nasty Curveball, also known as the "Fury", The only thing that is keeping him back is his C(101) Stamina.

SS- Chase McCain: A very solid fielding SS, although he lacks power he has been known to get a big time hit when it matters the most.

3B- Simon Moon: Simon Moon might not share the same clutch hitting ability that McCain has but he makes up for it with the arm strength required to throw from 3rd to 1st to get runners out.

2B- Vic Olvariz: A power hitting 2nd baseman with above average fielding, his strongest asset is his fielding.

LF-Qunicy Portis: A great bunting left fielding with an uncanny ability to steal bases, he will probably hit in the lead-off spot for the team.

1B- Woodrow Cruise: Woodrow is easily the best fielder on the team, although he isn't really good at anything else.

SP- Tito Makani: Although he has the slowest fastball on the team, This Hawaiian born player has mastered a slider like pitch that he calls "The Kahuna" and he looks to get hitters to make contact for outs.

2B- Bucky Mcbadbat: Often thought of as the worst baseball player to ever play the game, Mcbadbat played almost 2 full seasons without ever recording a hit. Bucky is going to try to take away the shame that is his name with this amazing chance at playing in the SMBL. He does provide some valueable experience as he is the only one on this team to have played at a high level before.

2B- Vic Olvariz: D/C/D/D/B/2/B, Contact Hitter, Tough Out, Power Hitter, Gd Bunt, Gd B2B Hitter, Hot Hitter, Firstball HTR, Aggressive FLD, Aggressive RUN
C- E.J. Florence: B/D/D/D/D/2/C, Clutch Hit: 2, Contact Hitter, Hot Hitter, Firstball HTR, Barehand CTH, Gd Catcher, Aggressive FLD,
LF- Quincy Portis: E/C/C/C/D/3/D, Gd Bunt, Firstball HTR, Stealing: 4, Aggressive RUN,
CF- Randy Gurch: B/E/C/E/G/3/D, Firstball HTR, Consistency: 4, Pr Morale
SS- Chase McCain: C/E/D/C/D/2/B, Clutch Hit: 4, Contact hitter, Hot Hitter, Gd B2B Hitter, Firstball HTR, Walk-Off HTR,
2B- Bucky McBadbat: G/F/G/G/G/1/G, Clutch Hit: 1, Timely Whiff, Throwing: 2, Base Running: 2, Error Prone, Pr Morale
3B- Simon Moon: C/D/D/B/D/3/C, Clutch Hit: 2, Contact Hitter, Hot Hitter
1B- Woodrow Cruise- D/D/D/D/A/3/C, Table Setter, Hot Hitter, Firstball HTR, Aggressive run
RF- Anthony Gallagher: C/B/C/C/C/3/B, Clutch Hit: 4, Power Hitter, Gd IF HTR, Gd B2B HTR, Hot Hitter, Firstball HTR, Durability 4

The OKC Observer April 1, 2008
It's the day before opening day and the buzz is starting to swarm around the league, teams are getting some last minute adjustment in, including our home town team, The Oklahoma City Stampede. We were able to catch up with Mike Edmonds at the ballpark to ask him a few questions.

Reporter: Hey coach, with all the hype around the team, how do you try and keep them grounded?

Coach Edmonds: Well it has been a little tough, confidence is good to have but some players can stand to lose some of that.

Reporter: Everyone talks about your starting rotation, exactly how good are they?

Coach Edmonds: Well KK Jennings and Rex Fury are the two best pitchers we have, so we expect to win every game they go out there and pitch and we have some good depth in the bullpen too so when the starters do the roughed up they can put up the slack.

Reporter: How do you handle not really having a Minor League system in place? you only have 23 players on your roster and only one of them with MLB experience.

Coach Edmonds: Well the Owner wanted to start off fresh so he went and grabbed some high quality players that for some reason or another didnt get a shot at the MLB when it existed.

Reporter: Thank you for your time coach, good luck this season.

The Stampede, who already lacked depth now have just 22 players on their roster and things are not looking good early on for the pre-season favortie to win the title. Recap: Steve Screws had some hard luck in his first start of the year as he got the 1-0 Loss in game one as the Stampede couldn't get their bats going. In Game 2 however, Woodrow Cruise hit a 2 run bomb in the 8th inning to give them a 2-0 lead and they would go on to win 3-1 after Frank Honey hit his first career HR in the 9th. In game 3 the slow start for the offense was officially over as the Stampede scored 6 runs off of 15 hits. Woodrow Cruise wins player of the series honors.

April 10th, 2008 GAME 4 Series Stampede VS Falcons
With just one out left in the bottom of the 9th, Steve Screws is on the mound, obviously shaking, and exhausted, but there is no time to be tired with whats at stake. Screws has gotten 26 outs in this game and just needs one more, everyone in the stadium with their eyes on him, booing, not wanting him to get this achievement. One quick glance at the scoreboard and even the most casual baseball fan immediately knows the significance of this next pitch. After a quick, hard look in to the catcher, they both agree on a pitch, Steve Screws winds up and delivers the fastball right down the middle of the strike zone, the batter swings and pops it right up to the pitchers mound, Steve Screws catches the ball that will write him in the history books, he has done it, he has thrown a perfect game.

Pitching
S.Screws- 9 IP, 0 H, 7 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER WIN(1-1)(Perfect game, first ever)

Steve Screws in just his 2nd career start did something that usually a pitcher never does in his career, he threw a perfect game in a 1-0 win against the Tucson Falcons. Screws threw just 70 pitches, 38 4 seam fastballs, 19 Slow Curves, 10 Forkballs, and 3 Mistake pitches. This is the first ever perfect game in the SMBL. Not only did he throw a perfect game but he also flashed his hitting ability going 3-4 at the plate.

It was a wild and crazy series that started off with great pitching as Doug Copet tossed his first complete game shutout in game 1 for the 5-0 victory. But then in Game 2 Tito Makani couldn't have pitched any better but the bullpen was terrible and gave up run after run, But back up catcher Frank Honey who is starting due to the injury to Florence hit the teams first ever Walk off HR. In game 3 ace pitcher K.K. Jennings continues to struggle going just 5 innings and giving up 4 earned runs. The bullpen did just as bad if not worse giving up a season high 13 runs in an offensive showdown between the two top teams in the NL Central. Right fielder Anthony Gallagher wins player of the series honors as he hit an amazing 4 home runs and recorded 8 RBIS in the series

Recap: In game 1 the offense couldn't really get it going, but on the bright side Rex Fury did have his first quality start of his career but did end up picking up his second loss on the season. In game 2 Steve Screws coming off his perfect game got a huge standing ovation from the home crowd when he first walked on the mound as everyone came to watch this young star pitch. He did not disappoint as he threw another complete game shutout, his 2nd in a row. Frank Honey was the hero once again in game 3, hitting a walk off sac fly in the bottom of the 10th to give the Stampede their first ever extra innings win. Steve Screws picks up player of the series honors.

Recap: The OKC Stampede started this important early season series on a bad note as they were able to get 9 hits but not able to score a run and Wade Cox suffered his first loss of the young season. The Stampede struck early in game 2 with a first inning run but could never add on and K.K. Jennings gave up two solo home runs and the score would stand with the Stampede losing game 2, 2-1. Oklahoma City used a big 6th inning in game 3, and a big time save by F.Wood to at least salvage one game from the series with a win, 4-3. Player of the series goes to Anthony Gallagher

From now on I will only be doing these box score updates instead of this plus a recap, I feel like this will save me some time since I play every game. The player(or players) of the series will be highlighted in blue text in the 'SERIES BATTING STATS' section of each update. If something crazy happens, like if I throw another perfect or a player hits 4 Home runs etc. I will do more for those games.
