Enjoying the fake Mainers more than the real Mariners at present, especially now that Dickey is in danger of becoming an insurance agent.

Seattle -- Fan favorite Raul Ibañez hit his two hundredth career home run in a stellar night for the Seattle Mariners. Felix Hernandez threw a complete game shutout, fanning a total of eighteen as Seattle took the opening game in this inter league series against the Pirates. Three Mariners went for the long ball today, as all the runs scored were off of solo blasts, Vladimir Guerrero with 1, Adrian Beltre with two, and the star of the night, Raul Ibañez hit another. The Pirates were kept dry, as in all but one inning they were put down in order, as Felix threw a onehitter, with that one hit coming in the eighth. Former Mariner Miguel Batista started for Pittsburgh, he had a solid night until the homeruns came in. After back-to-back jacks by Guerrero and Beltre, his night was done.

Mariners acquire Butler from Kansas City.
June 28th, 2009

Seattle -- The Seattle Mariners have traded away utility man Ryan Sweeney as well as their 2008 1st Round draftee Michael Raymundo in exchange for right handed slugger Billy Butler. Butler has spent most of his season in AAA and will prove to be a good platoon man with Daric Barton. The Mariners had no right handed 1st baseman in the organization so this appears to be a good trade for both sides.

Mariners win as rookie Snead increases record to 3-0

Mariners: 3
Angels: 2

Win: Snead (3-0)
Save: Dickey (23)
Loss: Lackey (8-7)
HR: X

Seattle -- The Mariners have won their fourth consecutive game as they took the opening match of the series against the second place Angels. Rookie Andrew Snead pitched today, going 5 & 2/3 innings to gain his third win of the season. Newly acquired Billy Butler entered the game as a pinch hitter but went 0-1 in his debut. On the other side, John Lackey started for the Angels and threw an eight inning complete game yet got the loss as he surrendered three runs to the Mariners, all coming in the fourth inning when the Mariners hit three consecutive doubles to score the winning run. It wasn't a decisive victory however, as when R.A. Dickey took the mound, he nearly blew his first save of the season, giving up two runs and just barely avoiding a third on a great throw to home by Vladimir Guerrero.

Andrew Snead (5 & 2/3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 6 SO)
Josh Fields (3-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI)

John Lackey (8 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 5 SO)
Chone Figgins (2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI)

Record: (53-31)

1st: Seattle Mariners (53-31)
2nd: Anaheim Angels (43-41) (easier to type out)
3rd: Oakland Athletics (40-44)
4th: Texas Rangers (34-50)

Marlins deal prospect and Laffey to Seattle.
July 1st, 2009.

Florida -- The Florida Marlins have traded away 2009 draftee John French, a slugging right fielder, and starting pitcher Aaron Laffey, the two were sent to Seattle in exchange for utility man and speedster Willie Bloomquist, along with the power pitcher Mark Lowe. Both will be useful as the Marlins have struggled with the bullpen and a utility man wasn't previously on the ball club. Willie can play four positions solidly and should be a good addition to the team.

He's actually really solid, D contact, D power and the rest E's with 2 TRJ, plus he's only 22.

Awesome, I like that move. Laffey should grow into a useful starter.

Sweeney was actually starting to get pretty good, he was at something like C contact, E power, good hitter.
