St.Louis Cardinals(71-66) @ Houston Astros(73-64)August 31st, 2008- The Cardinals played the Astros for the last time this year, and had they won, would've moved in to a tie for first with 1 month left. Unfortunately they did not win, and also lost the season series versus the Astros, 5-10. In the 2nd, both teams hit a solo homer, Glaus going deep for the Cards and Carlos Lee for Houston. In the bottom of the 3rd Kazuo Matsui scored on a passed ball, making it 2-1 Astros. The Astros extended their lead in the 5th, with RBI singles by Darin Erstad and Lance Berkman. Chris Duncan narrowed the lead with a 2 run homer in the 6th, making it 3-4 and putting the Cards within striking distance. But, Brad Ausmus delivered a dagger in the 8th, with a 2 RBI single giving Houston a 6-3 lead that wouldn't be challenged. Brewer struggled in his start, giving up 4 runs in 4 2/3 IP, and striking out only 1. Hopefully he can turn it around in September, for the Cardinals to make a playoff push. 3 6W-G.Romero(6-4)
