It seems like I'm the only one on the planet who was still playing '07, so I decided to move back into '08 for a new season log. But this time, I learned a few things to help me out. Everyone here knows how bad (that's an understatement) the expansion rosters are in '08 the computer generates for you and, when I was doing my Pelicans log, I finally got frustrated enough that I gave up. Outfielders slower than offensive lineman, pitchers that can barely get out of the fourth... I could go on but, you know what I'm talking about.
So, in order to at least have something that resembles a Major League roster, I asked a few question, did some experimenting over a couple weeks and bam! I learned how to make good players in Success Mode on '08. Now I can balance the scales just a bit. I tried not to go to crazy with the players I created, although I had a little ooops with the SS I created for this log and made him a little to good by accident, the others I created are a bit more realistic, and makes my roster look a bit more MLB ready than AA ready.
The other expansion team in this log is the Omaha Tornadoes. I did them a solid to by exporting their team out of season mode, editing a couple players in FA to make them good, adding them to the Omaha roster and importing the team back in to season mode.

Anchorage- The Kodiak Bears arrived back here in Alaska this afternoon, after breaking camp yesterday evening. The team will have a full squad workout tomorrow before opening their season April second with an abbreviated two game series against the Oakland A's. Rookie Phnom sensation Joey Callari will get the opening day start, according to GM/ Manager Scott0530. The team was also happy to be able to bring in a couple veterans before the end of training camp signing FA 1B Dan Johnson, 3B Great Wood and starting pitcher Chuck James.

"These were great pickups for us. Picking up Johnson and Wood really let us solidify our infield," said Scott0530 "and getting James makes our rotation pretty deep 1-5, considering we are an expansion team."

Oakland Athletics (Harden 0-0| 0.00) VS. Alaska Kodiak Bears (Callari 0-0 | 0.00) Date: 4/2

Anchorage- The Kodiak Bears got exactly what they were looking for last night in their inaugural season opener. Along with picking up a win, rookie starting pitcher Joey Callari was as good as advertised, allowing just one run over eight solid innings.
Callari did find some trouble in the 2nd giving up a lead off double to Frank Thomas, but was able to wor out of it by getting a ground out and striking out the bext two batters to end the inning.
Alaska then boomed themselves into the lead in the bottom of the inning, getting back-to-back solo homeruns from Dan Johnson and Gary Sessions.
The only blemish on Callari's night came in the eighth, giving up a solo home run to Travis Buck.
With manger Scott0530 using a bullpen-by-committee approach, Rob Traber came in and picked up his 1st season with a perfect ninth.

Anaheim Angels (Garland 0-0 | 0.00) VS. Alaska Kodiak Bears (Walround 0-0 | 0.00) 4/4

Anchorage- The Kodiak Bears played it tight all game with The Angels. But, going into the ninth with a lead, the win slipped through their fingers.
After getting two runs a piece in the third; a 2RBI double for the Angels by Figgans and a 2RBI double from Paul Savoy, the Bears took the lead in the fourth on a Dan Johnson solo homerun.
Starter Linus Walround tired early and had to exit after pitching just four innings. The bullpen did a good job through the eighth, scattering just a few hits and not allowing a run.
However, in the ninth, the Angels got to the young Bears. Torri Hunter opened the inning a double and Kasey Kotchman banged a two run home run to give the Angels the lead. Amaheim would add two more runs in the inning before Franky Rodrguez closed out the game for the Angels.

Alaska Kodiak Bears(Stringer 1-0 | 1.29) @ (Devine 0-0 | 0.00) Date 4/9

Oakland- A classic pitcher's duel in Oakland saw Alaska drop just it's second game this year to the Athletics, and get shut out for the first time.
Both teams had multiple chances to score this game, but neither seemed to be able to get a big hit.
Oakland scored the only two runs in the game in the eighth after a tiring Nathan Stringer was lifted for Cunnane. Cunnane retired the first two hitters he faced but then gave up back to back doubles to Chavez and Thomas and an RBI triple to Brown.
Street came in to close out the with in the ninth for Oakland.

Box Score
AK: 0
OAK: 2
-------------------------------
WP: A. Brown (1-0)
LP: Cunnane (0-1)
SV: Street (2)
Kodiak Bears: Stringer 7IP, 0ER, 6K, ND; McGlinchy 2-3
Athletics: Chavez 3-4, 2B, R; Thomas 1-4, RBI, R

Division GB
Kodiak Bears --
Mariners 1.0
Athletics 3.0
Rangers 3.0

April 10
Anchorage- The Kodiak Bears made a trade today to strengthen their pitching staff sending reliever Ernie Gorneault (94, D124, C83, SLD2, CB2, FRK1) to the Florida Marlins for starter/ Swingman Sergio Mitre (93, C143, B139, SLD2,SLV2).

Manager/ GM Scott0530 stated that Mitre will slide into the number 5 spot in Alaska's rotation. Bernie McNichol will move to the 6th/swingman position and Jesus DePablos will move to the Alaska pen. With the departure of Gorneault, Luke Bumstead will now assume the closer role for Alaska.
