I've finished up recording my MLBPP08 Success Mode videos, and I'll be returning to helping to make some players for AOW's project. And to get back into the swing of things, I'm going to attempt to make Cliff Pennington.

Cliff Pennington is pretty much your typical all-glove-no-bat shortstop who debuted with the A's back in 2008. He's mainly played SS in his career, but he has played some 2B (and a little bit of 3B) in the past couple years with Arizona. So, here's what I'm thinking with Mr. Pennington, annotated:

Position(s): SS, 2nd Position 2B (maybe 3B?)

TRJ: 2
CON: E 6 (I feel this is the most accurate, given his batting abilities. High F may be a possibility)
PWR: High F-Very Low E (hasn't hit double-digit HRs, but did hit 8 in 2010, thus the Low E end of spectrum)
RUN: High C-Low B (Had 29 SBs in 2010, but <15/yr ever since)
ARM: B (from the glimpses I saw, he has a pretty good arm)
FLD: Low B (his range factor has actually been slightly below average in his career; high C may be a better fit)
E-RES: High C-Low B (Doesn't make too many errors, FLD% is usually around league average. However, 25 and 22 in 2010/2011 a bit worrying)

How does it look so far? What abilities (if any) should I go after?

Dish - thanks so much! Pennington debut'd in 2008 so its great to have him in a new season mode start. Very excited to see what you can add.

Its always good to use Robhallett as a starting point - here's what he gave:

Quote:
Cliff Penington
S/R
A's
#56
SS/3B/2B

Contact 7
Power 85
Run speed 12
Arm 10
Fielding 8
Trj 2
E-res 6

Throwing 4
Pivot Man
Agg Field
Agg Run

But Rob is always a few years ahead of us, so its best to realign with reality!

Contact 6 I like, because Pennington is a lifetime .248 hitter, and aar0nator's got .245 as a 6. He has .246-.259 as a 7, but save that as a decision at the end in case you end up with blue abilities or something.
Power is definitely there - 4 homers in 60 games in '09, and hitting 6-8 is doable with 18-26 doubles...I always thought D power was around 10 homers, so I'd go for mid-high E.
Speed 11-12 is fine, whatever is best for you
Arm 10-12, anything in there is fine - Rob had 10 but gave him throwing 4, so go with your feelings
Fielding 8 seems low to me. The years that he actually played SS or 2B for an extended period, he always put up positive total zone and defensive runs saved. So I would bottom out at 10. 11 would be okay with me too.
E Res anywhere from 10 down to 6 is fine, he makes them at a normal rate

I'd avoid the blue abilities overall, as much as possible - if this guy gets 3 or 4 of those he'll be way too useful. The defensive ones robhallett chose seem fine - throwing 4 and pivot man, plus the two green ones...that's more than enough for me.

Had him done perfectly, got the birth year wrong, tried to reset to go back to where I was, lost the player. Will have to try again later tonight, but I will get him done.
