Next on the list for my Padres update is their new catcher, Derek Norris. He's a power hitter with not great fielding (like almost every catcher to ever exist). He was born 2/14/89, so 19 yrs old in 2008. robhallett made a version:
Trj 2
Contact 4
Power 150
run 7
arm 12
field 7
eres 6

timely whiff
spray hitter
hot hitter
throwing 4
patient hitter
sparkplug

I'll be following this, but maybe lowering the fielding and arm strength. He is a terrible fielder. Any help with him will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

His fielding is better and so is his contact

if I were doing him from scratch, I'd do:

TRJ 3 (if you get a few blue abilities, stick with 2 here)
CON 7 (.246 lifetime avg)
POW 122-125 (2.7% HR rate, .147 ISO...not the slugging level of a 150 POW bat)
SPD 8-9 (he has a few steals)
ARM 9-11? (22% CS% in MLB, so I'm not seeing anything great here, but scouts say its strong and he was more like 39% in the minors...)
FLd 8-9 (a hair into negative but not that bad)
E RES 8-9

specials:
Vs Lefty 4, omg he's crushing them
Patient Hitter would be great - OBP was over .400 for a lot of the minors, walk rate over 11%
Stealing 4 is worth considering, high success rate given his not great speed
Anything else that shows his high OBP, like Tough Out maybe

Ok, I'll follow your guide and start him tommorow. Speed will be the last thing that I will worry about for him. Plus, there's kind of no way he gets 8-9 spd. Maybe 6-7, and that's pushing it for me...

Yeah I never saw him with my own eyes, he didn't get on base in the As games I watched last year...so I'm basing it on scouting reports and MLB steal totals only. But before you write him off at 6-7, check out his minor league stats. in 2011 he racked up 13 steals, and 11 two years before that. He might've slowed down a bit at age 24/25, but he still gets 6+ steals in a full season...that's gotta be at least an 8, right? I can't steal with guys that have a 7 speed in the game. Or does he do the delayed steal like Jason Varitek used to?

His doubles totals don't show a lot of speed, so maybe just speed 8 but Stealing 4? That makes more sense than Baserunning 4 I guess?

How about pull hitter??? He also had a couple of walk
Off hits when I did him but in all honesty I haven't seen him since. His contact back then was not great but his power was projected in the 20's. His a platoon catcher though??? Would his fielding be that high? I would be thinking a 7-8 at most. Plus make him look homeless, my version was quite clean cut.

Gambler's Tickets, and practices that give you mentality points. :)

He's finished. Wish I got power higher, I wasted so much practices trying to get mentality points and didn't play the final Sittch game. What ever, he came out alright. I tried for stealing 4 at the end with my gamblers ticket rather than more power, and failed on an 80% chance. Let's just remember that he's still a catcher, so let's not get crazy with speed... He also has Pr Small Ball and Throwing 4 in addition to the abilites you see. Enjoy!
