My next attempt at a Success player for AOW's project will be Ben Revere, the speedy then-Twins OF, now with the Phillies. He might be one of the tougher players for me to make, IMO, because of the high Run Speed I'm probably going to need, coupling that with a decent contact rating. Here's what I'm thinking, based on what I've seen and his cumulative stats:

Age: He was born on 5/3/88, so in 2007, he'll probably be 19?
Position: CF (RF second position?)
Uni #: He started off as #37 with the Twins back in 2010-11, but switched to #11 from 11-12, so I might give him the latter of the two.

TRJ: 1/2 (he's more of a gap/line drive hitter, so 2 may be better, but I'm putting 1 in there, since he doesn't hit too many dingers)
CON: C (career AVG is .291, hits consistently mid-high .200s, hit .300s last couple years)
PWR: Low F (career: 2 dingers, all last year; had the longest active non-homer streak for a while, Super-High G a possibility as well)
RUN: High B-Low A (one of the speediest guys around; playing full time, could potentially net 35+ SB/yr.)
ARM: E (someone will probably have to help me with this one, but from my experience, he doesn't have too good of an arm, but assist totals are kind of high)
FLD: C (Has some decent range in the OF, error numbers are OK)
E-RES: D (kind of a guess, really)

As for specials, I may go for Contact Hitter, Gd Bunt, and maybe Gd IF hitter? Thoughts?

I'd go TRJ 1, I think he only has a whopping total of... ONE career homer that went over the fence...

Edit: Never mind he had two last year... Still, 2 TRJ is pushing it a bit...

OK. Here's what ED44 had for him in 2011:

Eric Davis 44 wrote:
Ben Revere 23 MIN > > 2 6 57 12 4 5 7 > 8 7 a 9 a 4 e > > > > > > Tough_Out Agg_STL

And in 2013:

Eric Davis 44 wrote:
Ben Revere , x , 1 , 9 , 57 , 14 , 12 , , , , ToughOut , GdIFHtr , , , Run4 , , , AggStl , AggRun

And what I have for him:

Revere: 1/11/53/14/5/13/6, VS Lefty 5, Tough Out

He hasn't played outside of CF since 2012, and rarely played LF or RF in the minors (a total of 58 games, as opposed to 313 in center), so I wouldn't give him a second position. You could, though, if you have leftover points, I suppose.

He shows insane reverse platoon splits, hitting lefties 31 points better for his career and 50 points better in 2014. He's good with 2 strikes, hence Tough Out. GD Bunt/GD IF Htr would be possibilities, but I'm not sure about Contact Hitter. Aggressive STL would definitely be good, and Aggressive RUN/Base Running 4 would also be nice.

He should be 19 as of whenever the age cutoff is.

His fielding is a D in CF and LF, but a B in RF. I would make him an RF with CF and LF as backups and B fielding, but that's just me. I would also go with low F power, as G results in literally no homeruns, and he's hit 2. Has a noodle arm, high F would be good there. Below average Eres.

Love it! good info all around. adding my own $0.02:

TRJ 1-2, agree entirely
Con 9 (career avg against righties is a flat .282; add Vs Lefty 4 to reflect his split)
OR Con 8 and Contact Hitter (I like to think of that bonus making up one point of CON, but that's me)
PWR ~ 60 maybe? I don't go this low on my ISO/HR% chart. But if Elvis Andrus is 70 power, this guy is less.
SPD - 12 with baserunning/stealing 4, or just vanilla 13 (everyone knows how cautious I am with Speed. I want Eric Young Jr to have 14 or 15, and Dee Gordon, and Billy Hamilton, and that's it. Revere ranked 24th in fangraphs SPD last season [7.2], 16th in UBR. He's definitely a B, 12 or maybe 13).
ARM: 6-7 Total Zone has his arm as a negative, but he does get assists...Icky.
FLD 11-12. I'd be OK with 13 if RF was his main position. He's a net negative in CF tho.
E RES 9-10 - he hovers around league average

I would agree with aar0nat0r on RF/CF/LF - he's mainly played CF, but as a CF he can certainly handle the others, so add them for the heck of it. Making RF primary makes his fielding there better, which matches reality.

OK, so with the info I've gathered, I think I can probably aim for these updated stats:

TRJ: 1 (might just go with 1, because of the homer conundrum, haven't made many with 1 TRJ)
CON: D 8-9 (thanks for the hints about CON, I may get C 10 if I have leftovers, though)
PWR: F 50-60
SPD: B 12-13 (I am so tempted to give him an A, but looking deeper at the numbers, I think a solid B should be good enough.
ARM: E (I'll probably keep it there)
FLD: C-B (B only for RF, like AOW said)
E-RES: D (may bump it to low C if leftovers)

As for specials, I'll probably aim for these (ranked by priority):
-VL4
-Gd IF Htr
-Gd Bunt
-Aggressive RUN
-BR4 (had 9 TOOTBLANs in 2014, and 5 in 2013)

As for Tough Out, I don't see enough evidence with 2 strikes to give him this ability; he has a career .228/.270/.259 with 185 Ks in 2 strike counts.

For a position, I'll probably flip a coin for making RF or CF his main position. He's played more CF, but has better fielding in RF? I may be calling SSS on his RF stats, though, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the advice, guys, and I'll go ahead and get started. Maybe I'll record some of it for the much-anticipated fielder playthrough in MLBPP08. ;) (I might not, but I need to get some work in with my capture card anyway.)

lol dunno how I hadn't seen TOOTBLAN before, very nice

maybe just good ole' Stealing 4, since Baserunning 4 isn't supported by the TOOTBLANs

I don't know if TOOTBLAN would help older guys, since the person only started tracking those in 2013, maybe useful for the newer players with 13/14 debuts in terms of BR4 or not?

BTW, here's the site for the TOOTBLAN tracker: http://tootblan.tumblr.com/

I gave him a 5 for his arm as his speed seems to make up for it on defensive plays.

Ben has played 97 games in RF, that's where he started with the Twins I believe. He's played 65 in LF, so it's fair to give him both as extra positions, although it's been primarily CF for the Phillies.

And he's done! This was technically my third try on him. The first one I tired recording, and I went a little too fast, and ended up not getting past AA. The second try, I caught the thief and accidentally got BOTH Throwing 4 AND Cannon Arm. No bueno. So, the third try, I think I got it right. I couldn't quite get LF as a 3rd position, but I think it's good enough nonetheless. Here you go!

Yeah, it was so hard to not get Hot Hitter and Firstball Hitter at the end, because of the Gd IF Hitter ability, coupled with the Gd Bunt ability. Thanks for the compliment!
