Has anyone noticed that when you hit a grounder and they get another runner out. That even if your safe you get charged with a ground out and not a hit?

it's called a fielders choice, meaning the fielder had the option of getting the lead runner out or whoever was going to 2nd base

It can also be if the runner on second starts going to third without a force. If they throw to third whether he's safe or out it's not a hit. It's too bad for speedsters who could leg it out if there wasn't a runner on. :P

What should be a rule, but isn't, is if a player boots a sure-fire double play ball but still records "an" out it's not an error, but the poor pitcher should be out of the inning. It should be an error and the ensuing runs unearned.

You can't assume the double play :)

Yeah I saw the game that mentioned that. I didn't see it but those yankee announcers kept saying it should've been an error because you assume everything else. Also, you wanna keep an errorless streak going? Don't touch the ball. 8)

Hmm, not necessarily. Not making the play doesn't always have to do with booting the ball.

Good point. If they changed the rules to assume a double play they should only count it as an error if they boot it or throw it away. Not if it's just because of speed or someone crashing into the 2B/SS

I just found out that they assume the double play in this game. Youkilis bobbled it after they got the 1st out at 2nd. No runners got to advance.

Yeah those are the rules. :?

I understand the force out rule but never thought you were charged as a ground out if you reached base safely

Yeah well those are the rules too. Otherwise with the bases loaded someone could bunt into a double play and it would still be counted as a hit.
