Yay, a new sticky!

Alright, once I start getting more info (from you guys) this thread should eventually have all of the readable books (not the ones the teach new pitches) with the pre-requisite Culture and bonus stat boosts. Then someone can happily make a wiki page once the info reaches this post (aka. verified).

This list contains book titles, the requisite Culture Level, the stat boosts (impossible to determine amount though), and the Number of times you can read it before your player trashes the book (claiming he's learned all he can from it). The last number may be random, I haven't tested the theory fully yet.

Most books can be rebought and re-read (you guy is stupid, thinking because it's a NEW book but the same title, it must contain something new to learn, good for us I suppose).

Book, Minimum Culture, Stat Boosts, Culture Boost, # of Reads

Pitchers
Baseball Comic Book, G, Control, ?, ?
Bgr. Pitching, E-F?, Control and Stamina, ?, ?
Breaking Ball, D?, All breaking pitches, ?, ?

Fielders
Baseball Comic Book, G, Control, ?, ?
Bgr. Fielding, F?, Fielding and Error Res., ?, ?

Int. Fielding can be read with a C (haven't tried lower) and it raises Fld and E Res
Int. Batting can be read with a C (haven't tried lower) and it raises Contact and Power
Adv. Fielding cannot be read with a C
Adv. Batting cannot be read with a C

More to come on Adv. books when I get my culture higher

Adv. FLD - boosts FLD, E RES, and ARM STR
Adv. BAT - boosts TRJ, PWR, CON
Baseball Biography - combines Adv. FLD and BAT (boosts all 6 stats)

Romance, Adventure, and Mystery novels - haven't seen any benefit other than increasing your culture rating if it isn't already maxed out.

Something else I discovered - using Protein supplements boosts the gains you get from reading the books just like it does practicing alone.

yep, I was surprised. I was specifically using the Adv. Batting book, and couldn't figure out why sometimes I got twice as much of a PWR boost than other times (my CON is maxed and it's hard to tell how far the TRJ meter moves). At first I thought maybe it was related to motivation/mode, but after experimenting I found out that it was protein supplements that affected it. I was using Protein Max and the stat boost appeared to be double what it was without. I haven't tried using Protein EX or regular Protein to see what corresponding effect they have.

It makes sense in some ways. In practice, you gain benifits similar to those in reading. It really is a boost everything you get from outside- games experinces (basically anything in free time that gives you a boost is strengthened). It even boost your experince in spring training and regular practice! I save a lot of Gold Ex for practicing in the off season and I have a full inventory of them for spring training.

For the new pitches books, when you can read them (I am assuming at A, because I am already at 3/4 of B and still can't read them) can you have more than 2 in any given direction? and is it possible to tell what direction the pitch is by the book cover?

no, this i think depends on your stats. E.g. You only can read a certain book if you reached let say 90mph

you mean the (insert pitch here) guides? yeh, good luck with that, you aint gonna read that thing under normal circumstances. if you're in AAA, and you have one in your bag, you can use it in practice. If you're in the majors, and the shop has a pitch type you want, buy it, then make sure it's in your bag when it's time to leave for spring training. Some pitches take only one practice to learn, others take two. I cannot stress enough, though...the pitch guides (not to be confused with the breaking ball guide, which is a normal book) can ONLY be used in spring training or AAA practices, and MUST be in your bag to be of any use.
