Author's note: If you read my forum about needing help and all that, you know who this guy is. Hello, eveyone. I'm Rootee Hernandez, Outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies. After my historic run through the minors—well, not historic, but…—my agen Matthew signed me a 1-year, 390K deal with the Phillies, so my majors journey begins. The manager seems nice. I met this kid Oakley who was picked in the draft like I was. He says he's getting to the Bigs before me. I doubt it. |

The manager says I need to work on my hitting and running before making it in the majors. He's right. But I'm working on running in the outfield, and it's working well for me. But—and don't let the coach know this—but the people in the minors with no first names creep me out. Whatever. I'm hitting leadoff anyways. |

(Anything in parentheses is an author's note.) So April's over, and here's my rundown of what happened. •I'm hitting .219 with 2 HR and 4 RBI, but the manager is shuffling me between leadoff and third, sometimes cleanup. My problem is, I'm hitting it at people too often. (Resist the urge to use Big Swing, Benny…RESIST!!!) •I'm making some new friends already, including Brett Myers and the news lady, Mia. Matthew and I are playing Chess every so often. I'm not that great. (I feel for ya, Rootee. I feel your pain.) •The big league Phillies are 8-20. Ouch. •Oakley made it to the bigs. I didn't. Darn it. •I bought a couple of books from the store. The comic book is good so far. In short: I haven't gotten any closer to the Bigs. I know I can do well, I just can't pull it together… (If they make an MLBPP 2010, it better have Extended Spring Training.) |
