I have some questions about the pictures.
1. What is that writing under the name mean?
2. What are the numbers underneath the skills? I would assume one is salary, but what about the other two?
3. What are the blue, white, and yellow boxes mean/for?

I'm going to let PPJ answer this one, as I have no clue...

1. No clue.
2. This is pure speculation, but I believe that the left one is current salary, the middle one is how much the player wants, and the right one is the current offer.
3. Blue means you are offering him a contract, gray means you won't tender him a contract (these guys get signed at a different time than players who declare free agency on their own, fwiw), and yellow means the player is retiring.

Only thing I need help for with this game is a run through of what the abilities are, I can get random blue abilities but not know what they mean.

That happens to me too, actually.

I'm not sure on most of the blue abilities.

But, most of them are in the some spot as they are in the American games.

I'll have to write them out and compare what they all do.

Something that I just recently found out, and also found shocking, was that you can buy the gyroball ability in 2011!

And it isn't even all that hard to get!

By purchasable, do you mean you can buy it from the abilities screen?

Well, I'm currently playing through as a fielder, so it may be more expensive, but... (also, this game's point system is revamped, so I'm not sure what it would translate to in 2008)
