I want both, though I'd like to see how many middle infielders we have. I'd like to know because if we have too much, we should swap one for a pitcher.

Katsuki Comes Through in the Clutch!

Koshien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyōgo – The Tigers squeaked by the Eagles in yesterday’s game, winning by the final score of 6-3. It was a tight game going back-and-forth throughout. But in the 7th, the Tigers rookie first baseman, Ryo Katsuki, blasted a 2-run homerun to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. In his post-game interview, he said that “it was awesome, something that I’ve always dreamed of doing. And now I have!” Tani then hit his second homerun of the game in the 8th, making the final score 6-3.

Pitcher, Atsushi Nohmi, went 7 strong, letting up only 3 runs, and allowing 10 hits. The only one to give him trouble was the struggling Watanbe, who went 4-for-4 with a double and drove in all 3 of the Eagles runs. In the 8th new addition, Yoshinori Tateyama came in to pitch, thinking it would just be to set-up for Fujikawa. But he stayed in the game, gaining his first save of the season. Nohmi gains his 3rd win, and Eagles pitcher Wataru Karashima gets his 2nd loss.

We have 3 in the majors, and 2 in the minors. Hirano is the only one on the bench who can play 2nd.

So if we get Robles, we would have Hirano and Saito on the bench to play the middle-infield spots, if needed.

Since I haven't done this since page 2, I'll update you guys with the stats of all the players on the team, currently. Along with a short-hand bio, and their current batting average, homeruns, and RBIs. (The years pro section includes this year)

"***" = Made in Success Mode

Starting lineup:

1. Takashi Toritani #1
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
31, 10, SS, 3B, L/R, 3, B, B, B, B, B, A
Bio: Always a reliable player, great defender, and great with the bat. Though this year, he is struggling a bit. Usually bats third.
AVG: .238
HR: 6
RBI: 21

2. Riki Kawamoto*** #88
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
21, 3, OF, N/A, L/R, 2, B, C, B, A (15!), C, B
Bio: A young outfielder, who has been playing center all his life. A great arm and a good glove make for him to be one of the top fielders in the Central League. Not known to hit many homeruns, but will get hits when needed. He won the rookie of the year award in 2011. Currently having the best season (average wise) of his career.
AVG: .324
HR: 1
RBI: 26

3. Kazuhiro Wada #5
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
40, 17, OF, DH, R/R, 3, B, A, E, E, E, C
Bio: The second oldest member of the team, and the oldest in the starting lineup. Wada was just signed this year, and got the starting left field role over Alan Spaikes. Wada has been known for his continuous offensive production. But his fielding leaves something to be desired.
AVG: .333
HR: 6
RBI: 24

4. Kazuteru Tani*** #55
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
21, 4, OF, N/A, S/R, 4, A, A, B, C, C, B
Bio: The best player on the team. Tani leads in batting average, homeruns, and in RBI. Plus he can steal a couple of bases, and has a good glove. Tani won rookie of the year in 2010, and as he should have, batting .326, with 31 homeruns, and 109 RBI. He originally batted 7th, but slowly moved his way up in the lineup to the clean-up spot. I will do whatever is needed to keep him on the team.
AVG: .384
HR: 12
RBI: 45

5. Kiyoshi Abe*** #32
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
22, 3, C, N/A, L/R, 3, B, C, B, B, B, A
Bio: Abe was chosen to be a back-up to Johjima, but ended up taking the starting role. In his first season with the Tigers, he did well. In 2012, he had an excellent month of April, batting leadoff, hitting over .300, and hitting 8 homeruns. He wouldn't get his 9th homerun until June. And since then he hasn't been the same. He struggles against lefties, but is now playing well, going 8-10 in his last 10 at-bats.
AVG: .274
HR: 2
RBI: 25

6. Ryo Katsuki*** #19
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
22, 1, 1B, N/A, L/L, 3, C, B, B, C, C, C
Bio: The younger of the Katsuki brothers. He is currently doing better then his older brother, Tetsuji. Katsuki is a rookie first-baseman who beat out Kanemoto for the starting bid.
AVG: .302
HR: 7
RBI: 29

7. Tetsuji Katsuki*** #9
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
23, 1, OF, 3B/1B, 2, B, C, C, A, B, B
Bio: Tho older of the Katsuki brothers, he focuses more on fielding rather then hitting. He isn't known to hit many homeruns. He is now coming out of a slump. Plays a tight third, has good range in the outfield, and if his brother ever gets hurt, we can put him at first.
AVG: .269
HR: 3
RBI: 27

8. Fumihiko Saito*** #43
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
28, 2, 2B, 3B, R/R, 1, A (15!), E, B, C, C, B
Bio: In high school he hit everything that was pitched to him. But after a few tough years in his life, he gave up baseball at the age of 23. After 3 years of intensive training, he was ready for the draft in 2012. He won rookie of the year in 2012, and was the 3rd person to win that award for the Tigers in a row. Every year, since I've taken over. He batted .299 with a homerun and 77 RBI last year. I'm thinking of replacing him with Aaron Robles.
AVG: .278
HR: 0
RBI: 13

Bench:

Kenji Johjima #2
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
36, 15, C, N/A, R/R, 4, F, B, D, B, C, B
Bio: He hasn't recorded a hit yet this year.
AVG: .000
HR: 0
RBI: 0

Michiro Furuhashi #67
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
28, 1, OF, C/1B, L/R, 3, E, B, E, C, E, E
Bio: He's currently only used as a pinch-hitter. Drafted this off-season.
AVG: .455
HR: 0
RBI: 1

Keisuke Kanoh #99
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
30, 13, C, OF, R/R, 3, E, C, A (15!), D, E, F
Bio: Probably the best on the bench right now, but doesn't have the stuff to start. Used as a pinch-runner or pinch-hitter primarily.
AVG: .000
HR: 0
RBI: 0

Keiichi Hirano #7
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
34, 12, 2B, OF, L/R, 1, E, E, B, D, A, D
Bio: A good fielder, but a terrible hitter.
AVG: .350
HR: 0
RBI: 2

Ivan Adamsky #49
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
25, 4, 3B, OF/1B, L/R, 2, C, C, D, B, B, D
Bio: Hasn't shown that he can perform well. He was picked up from America in 2010 in hope to become a starter. Nope.
AVG: .500
HR: 0
RBI: 0

Matt Murton #9
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
31, 4, OF, N/A, R/R, 3, C, C, C, E, D, C
Bio: Just recently put on the bench, he's good, but Wada is better.
AVG: .167
HR: 0
RBI: 0

Kodai Sakurai #51
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
29, 12, OF, N/A, R/R, 4, F, B, D, E, E, E
Bio: Comes through in the clutch, many times. My personal favorite pinch hitter. Also, the only one currently on the bench with a homerun.
AVG: .265
HR: 1
RBI: 6

Alan Spaikes #10
AGE, YEARS PRO, POSITION, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
26, 2, OF, N/A, L/R, 3, D, B, E, C, E, E
Bio: Picked up from America last season. Was set to start this year, but Wada was a free-agent, so he was doomed to the bench for yet another year.
AVG: .200
HR: 0
RBI: 1

I'll do the pitchers soon.

And now... The pitchers of the Hanshin Tigers

Starting Rotation:

1. Minoru Iwata #21
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
29, 8, L/L, 149 km/h (93 mph), B, A, 2-seam fastball, Slider - 5, Curve - 3, Circle Change - 1
Bio: Iwata has moved into the role of ace quite well. He even won the pitching triple crown in 2010!
ERA: 2.59
Wins-Losses: 5-2

2. Atsushi Nohmi #14
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
33, 9, L/L, 148 km/h (92 mph), C, B, 2 seam fastball, Slider - 3, Changeup - 3
Bio: He was the ace until Iwata took over. Fits perfectly into the #2 spot in the rotation. He tends to finish in the top 5 in wins every year.
ERA: 3.02
Wins-Losses: 3-1

3. Keiji Uezono #41
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
28, 7, R/R, 146 km/h (91 mph), F, B, Hard slider - 2, Changeup - 5
Bio: A new addition to the rotation. This is his first year as a starter in his career. And he's doing good, considering. Was fourth in the rotation, but moved up a spot.
ERA: 4.23
Wins-Losses: 4-1

4. Seth Greisinger #29
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
37, 7, R/R, 141 km/h (88 mph), B, B, 2-seam fastball, slider - 1, Circle Change - 4
Bio: The oldest in the rotation, he was acquired in free-agency 2 years ago. He has been struggling.
ERA: 4.04
Wins-Losses: 3-1

5. Bobby Murphy*** #15
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
22, 1, S/R, 151 km/h (93 mph), C, A, Hard sinker - 3, Curve - 2
Bio: The youngest in the rotation. He is the nephew of Bill Murphy from the Marines. He just recently threw his first-career complete game, almost a shutout, ruined by a homerun by Shinnosuke Abe. There is a lot of potential in him.
ERA: 3.38
Wins-Losses: 2-1

Bullpen:

Hirotaka Egusa #26
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
32, 11, L/L, 146 km/h (91 mph), E, E, 2-seam fastball, Slider - 4, Knuckle-curve - 1, Changeup - 2
Bio: He's struggling this year, but in years past he's been a great middle reliever.
ERA: 4.26
Wins-Losses: 0-0
Saves: 0

Yoshinori Tateyama #12
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
37, 15, R/R, 143 km/h (89 mph), D, F, Slider - 2, Screwball - 3
Bio: The newest addition to the pen is also the best. He has the lowest ERA on the team. And comes through when we need him to. Recently recorded first save of the season. (Apparently, he's on the Texas Rangers now [in real-life, obviously]!)
ERA: 1.93
Wins-Losses: 1-1
Saves: 1

Kenta Abe #56
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
28, 11, L/R, 147 km/h (91 mph), D, D, Slider - 3, Changeup - 2
Bio: He was the best last year, this year... Not so much.
ERA: 5.40
Wins-Losses: 1-0
Saves: 0

Tomoharu Yoshimi*** #39
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
21, 2, R/L, 149 km/h (93 mph), B, E, A fancy "floating" fastball, Hard Slider - 2, V-Slider - 2, Screwball - 2
Bio: Focuses mainly on his stellar fastball. His fastball seemingly breaks the laws of physics, moving upwards. He is in his sophmore season, after winning most outstanding pitcher of the year last year. Great set-up man. May convert to closer in upcoming years.
ERA: 2.81
Wins-Losses: 1-1
Saves: 0

Shota Kimura #20
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
26, 9, R/R, 148 km/h (92 mph), C, D, Slider - 1, Curve - 5
Bio: He has an awesome curve. But this year he is struggling.
ERA: 6.06
Wins-Losses: 1-0
Saves: 0

Closer(s):

Kyuji Fujikawa #22
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
32, 15, L/R, 157 km/h (97 mph), C, C, Curve - 1, Changeup - 4
Bio: Thought to be the best closer in all of the NPB. He relies on his fastball more than anything else.
ERA: 3.95
Wins-Losses: 1-2
Saves: 7

Hitoki Iwase #13
AGE, YEARS PRO, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
38, 15, L/L, 137 km/h (85 mph), B, F, Hard Slider - 2, Slider - 1
Bio: A secondary closer, and a left handed one, so we can use him if needed.
ERA: 2.45
Wins-Losses: 1-1
Saves: 5

Thanks!

And sure!

The success mode characters are: Riki Kawamoto, Kazuteru Tani, Kiyoshi Abe, Ryo and Tetsuji Katsuki, Fumihiko Saito, Bobby Murphy, and Tomoharu Yoshimi.

The players from America don't really exist, but I didn't make them in success mode.

I love these stats/abilities posts, they really give you an idea of how far the team has come. The games, which comprise most of the posts in a log, don't really show that.

By the way, could you put an asterisk or some other type of indication for success players in the posts? It would make it easier to compare players. Thanks!

Good post!

You seem to have a solid lineup, and looking back at the original stats you gave, the team has really improved! And adding either Robles or Murata would just make it that much better.

That it would! Now I just have to decide on which one to import. I'm leaning towards Robles, but I'm still not 100% sure.

After losing yesterday 9-2, we have sent pitcher Seth Greisinger down to the 2nd string team. We have recalled Tsuyoshi Moriyama to the 1st string team to replace him.

We're playing the Fighters today.

Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters (24-21-2) - 2

The Death Inning Returns

Sapporo Dome, Sapporo, Hokkaidō – Yesterday’s game was a good one, no, a great one. With the first 7 innings being a pitchers duel, with only 1 run scoring, and that run belonging to the Fighters. But, that all changed in the top of the eighth. The Tigers bats exploded, with them scoring 8 runs in that inning. It all started with Kawamoto, he hit a double to lead off the inning. Wada then drove him in with a single of his own to tie the score at 1 a piece. Both Tani and Sakurai got on with singles to make the bases loaded with no outs, with Abe stepping up to the plate. Abe, who has been having a somewhat below-average season, knows that his job may be on the line for next season with the rumors about star rookie Kyo Murata. He showed that he should stay with a 2 RBI double to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead in the late going. Right after him, the replacement for the injured Ryo Katsuki, Ivan Adamsky got a single driving in 2 more. 5-1 Tigers. And 2 batters later, the struggling Saito came up to bat. He is in the same boat as Abe, Robles may be replacing him in the lineup soon. But Saito too hit a 2 RBI double to make the score 7-1. Toritani then got up, and grounded out. 2 outs. Kawamoto hit ANOTHER double, and Wada drove him in, AGAIN, with a double of his own. Making the score 8-1. Tani grounded out to end the inning. 12 Tigers batted in the 8th inning.

Toritani was the only batter (besides Ryo, but he only had 2 at-bats before being removed from the game) to not record a hit. We spoke to him after the game, “I’m just not getting into a good rhythm, I don’t think lead-off is for me.” You heard it here first. Toritani doesn’t like batting lead-off. Maybe manager Akinobu Mayumi will move him down in the lineup. Toritani had a great season last year batting .291 with 17 homeruns, and 85 RBIs batting third.

Pitcher Bobby Murphy almost went the distance again, going 8 strong, letting up only 2 runs, the only reason behind him coming out was that his arm was starting to get stiff, and Miyumi didn’t want to risk it, so he pulled him. “Murphy is showing a lot of promise,” Miyumi said “he’s going to be a staple in this rotation for time to come.”

We have also regained sole possession of first!

Tigers Win in an Outstanding Game!

Osaka Dome, Osaka – What a game. Honestly. Yesterday’s game was probably one of the best I’ve ever seen in my 18 years of writing for this paper. It was looking like a blowout the whole way through, but somehow the Tigers came back to win, with the final score being 6-5.

The Tigers struck first, with Wada hitting a solo homerun, with 2 outs, in the first. But the Buffaloes quickly counter with Cabrera hitting a 2-run homerun for himself. And then in the third inning, Cabrera hit another 2 run homerun to make the score 4-1. Tomotaka Sakaguchi would then add another run with a solo shot of his own, making the score 5-1 in the 4th inning. But Miyumi would stick with his starter, Iwata. Which was ultimately a good choice. Iwata didn’t let up another run. The Buffaloes didn’t even score any more runs. In the top of the 5th: the bases became loaded on 3 singles, and Kawamoto drove-in one. Wada then stepped up to the plate, already having a homerun in the game, with the bases loaded, and 2 outs, and he flew out to the right fielder. The Buffaloes escaped giving up only 1 run. But, in the 7th, Buffaloes starter, Hirano was pulled due to his pitch count being over 90. Which was part of some plan Miyumi had mustered up. He said in the post game press conference, “After we had only scored 1 run with the bases loaded in the 5th, I realized how low [Hirano’s] pitch count was, I told the team to keep taking pitches until the first strike was thrown. I guess it worked, eh?”

The Tigers couldn’t seem to get anything going against Hirano. But Furukawa was another story. He didn’t let up any runs in the 7th, and came back in for the 8th.Wada hit his second homerun of the day, driving in his 1,000th career RBI in the process. Making the score 5-3. Tani got walked. Toritani then got a double, Tani moves up to 3rd. And Ryo drove in Tani with an RBI single (his 30th RBI on the year). Making the score 5-4. His brother, Tetsuji, then hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game up at 5! Saito then grounded out to end the inning. Iwata stayed in the game, and got a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half of the 8th.

In the top of the 9th, Alan Spaikes hit a lead-off double, and Keisuke Kanoh (who has great speed) was put in as a pinch runner. Miyumi said “I put him in because I know that Spaikes doesn’t have great speed. So I just hoped for the best with Kanoh on the base paths.” Abe then hit a blooper to center, and the speedy Kanoh just beat out the throw to home to put the Tigers ahead for the first time since the 1st inning! It seems that putting in Kanoh was the right decision! The loss was credited to the great Ryota Katsuki, but really, it should have gone to Jon Leicester, who gave up Abe’s hit. The next three batters would go down in order. The bottom of the 9th was a breeze, and Fujikawa gained his 9th save of the season.

Tani ended up being the only one in the lineup without a hit. “Oh well, next game I’ll make up for this one.” He said.
