It was a tough year for the Tigers; they fought the whole way through, winning the Central League by only half a game. But, sadly, they were knocked out of the playoffs in the second round, against one of their rivals, the Dragons, 4 games to 1.

The Marines ended up winning it all in an epic series, going all the way to game 7.

It was an eventful off-season for the Tigers as well, with Wada retiring, and Tani moving over to the MLB.

But none of that matters now. The Tigers are the past, the Knights, on the other hand, are the present. It has been announced that my brother and I will be partaking in a special draft of a mixture of first year players, and some washed up veterans. The draft is split up into hitters and pitchers (taking place over the course of 2 days). The hitters will be first.

We’ve decided that we will be meeting up in my new home in Kyoto for the drafts. These will take place on January 5th and 6th.

December 30, 2013

I met with the owner of the Knights, a nice man by the name of Matsuo Kanegi. He bought the team with his wife, Kiyori. They own Kyoto Lighting, and were both avid baseball fans, so they decided that they might as well create a local NPB team.

Our home field is Blue Stadium in Sakyō-ku.

I talked to Matsuo in the home dugout.

“So, Jack, thank you for joining the team! We were in need of a GM, and it seems you brought your entire crew along with you.” Matsuo said
“Yes sir, it is an honor to be here. My hopes are to bring this team to the top, and keep them there. I know we can do it! Oh, and sir, do you know anything of the draftees?”
“No. Well, actually, I know of 2 of them, Shuuji Arime, and Masato Kurihara.”
“Why only the 2 of them, sir?” I asked.
“They’re the best out there, for hitters at least. I know nothing about the pitchers.”
“What’s so good about them?”
“Well, first off, Arime is all you can ask for in a catcher. He has a fantastic arm, he is a fantastic fielder, calls a game like nobody’s business, and always knows what to do. PLUS he is an excellent leadoff guy, with a high on-base percentage, and he is able to hit for a high average. AND he has great speed.”
“Wow. What about Kurihara?”
“Kurihara is too a catcher, but he has changed to first base to prolong his career. He is the best power hitter I have ever seen. He’ll probably be able to break Saduharu Oh’s record of 55 homeruns in one season no problem. He too has fantastic speed. His contact and fielding are fine, they don’t shine as much as his power and speed though.”
“So, sir, which one of them would you like me to get in the draft?”
“Both, if possible. But I’m sure your brother will nab one of them. Go with Kurihara, if you can.”
“Yes sir. I will do exactly that.”
“Good! He’s my only request, so go crazy with whoever else you want. We’ll be entering the Pacific League, so don’t forget that we can have a DH.”
“Yes sir, I won’t forget.”
“Very well, Jack. Oh, and don’t call me sir, call me Matsuo.”
“Will do, Matsuo!”
I was going to go home, so I could get some rest before they sent out the list of players tomorrow morning.

Looking good so far!

So the pool of players is compiled of all of the players in the game + Success Mode players?

Oh. I thought you meant the whole league would have a draft. So what you're saying is, the two expansion teams are drafting from Success Mode players?

You are correct. The rest of the league will remain unchanged.

December 31, 2013

The day before new years was the day I was going to learn of the players I’m going to be able to pick.

I got the list via e-mail from the commissioner; it listed everything about them, their scouting reports, a short bio, their personality, etc.

“Jack, and Steven, these are the fielders you can pick up, go crazy.

Catchers:

Rikiya Terauchi
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, S/R, 2, D, D, D, A, A, A
Bio: This kid knows his stuff. He knows the strike zone like the back of his hand. He graduated from Andromeda High, so he wears an eye piece that helps him with hot zones, and the strike zone. Not much of a hitter, but makes up for it with his fielding.
Personality: A quiet guy who speaks when needed.

Shuuji Arime
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, R/R, 2, A, D, A, B, A, A
Bio: The best catcher available. He hits for contact, can steal bases, and is fantastic in the field.
Personality: An outgoing, humble kid, who knows his stuff.

Jun Kaga
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
22, N/A, R/R, D, F, E, C, E, E
Bio: Not known for anything except his arm, and being exceptionally smart.
Personality: Quiet, smart.

Masato Kurihara
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, 1B, R/R, 4, C, S (100!), A, C, D, C
Bio: Honestly, he is a first baseman. But he is listed as a catcher in the books. He prefers to play first. He is probably one of the greatest power hitters to ever set foot on the diamond. And will almost always come through in the clutch.
Personality: Outgoing, funny, and is always willing to go the extra mile.

Akitaka Shimozono
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, 1B/OF, L/R, 2, E, E, B, A, B, E
Bio: He graduated in the same class as Terauchi in Andromeda high. He was converted to an outfielder so he would get some playing time. He was the starting right fielder, he is a great fielder, but makes his fair share of errors. He’s one hell of a bunter.
Personality: One of the nicest kids, he always will be there to help out a teammate.

Daichi Suzuki
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, L/R, 3, C, C, D, E, D, D
Bio: He is known more for his bat then his fielding. He would suffice as a pinch hitter.
Personality: Serious about baseball, but knows how to have fun.

First Basemen:

Shou Toyoda
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
27, N/A, L/L, 3, B, A, F, D, F, E
Bio: He has been in the Majors for 10 years, and has proved to be a feared hitter. Both contact, and power wise.
Personality: Kind, but quick-tempered.

Daisuke Yagi
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, S/R, 2, A, D, B, D, B, C
Bio: He can hit, and hit, and hit, and hit. He is also a pretty good base stealer, and fielder. A well-rounded player.
Personality: Nice, and quiet.

Takuya Kanazawa
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, R/R, 3, C, A, D, E, E, E
Bio: He and Kurihara have been friendly-rivals since Junior High. They both have the power to knock it out. Kanazawa though isn’t as good as Kurihara, and he knows it.
Personality: Has somewhat of a inferiority complex, but still plays to 100%

Second Basemen:

Shun Tohno
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, 1B, L/R, 3, C, B, E, E, E, E
Bio: He can hit one out, but he can’t field for his life. He was known as Mr. Clutch in High School since he hit a pinch-hit-walk-off-3-run homerun against one of the best pitchers in the Koshien. He is more suited to first, than second.
Personality: A loud, brash kid. But he is nice.

Hideo Nomoto
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
29, SS, R/R, 2, D, E, D, B, B, B
Bio: Pretty much the opposite of Tohno. He is a fantastic fielder, and has been showing that all 12 years he’s been in the Majors. Never one to shy away from a dive, and always giving it his all. He has poor eyesight, and needs to wear glasses, which is thought to be why he isn’t that great of a hitter, since he can’t pick up the seams and rotation of the ball.
Personality: A leader. He knows his stuff, and would be a perfect captain.

Ken Wakui
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
19, N/A, R/R, 2, E, F, E, D, C, E
Bio: Nothing to write home about. He is an average fielder at best, and a terrible hitter.
Personality: Reserved, quiet.

Takara Okazaki
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
20, SS, S/R, 1, C, E, E, C, B, D
Bio: He was known for his contact and fielding especially, in college. Other then that unspectacular. Be he knows his way around the middle infield.
Personality: Reserved, but always speaks the truth.

Shortstops:

Taiga Kura
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, 2B, L/R, 3, B, C, C, C, C, D
Bio: Very popular in school. But that isn’t all; he’s a fantastic well-rounded player. Always batted 3rd in high school, right in front of Kanazawa.
Personality: Typical “pretty boy” but always is kind to his teammates.

Mikihiko Shimazaki
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
22, N/A, L/R, 4, C, A, C, C, C, E
Bio: A fantastic hitter, and average at everything else. Has the power to knock out 30 or 40 homeruns in a year.
Personality: Very confident in his abilities, but is always is very hard on himself.

Ken Naitoh
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
32, DH, L/R, 2, D, A, F, F, F, F
Bio: One of he best hitters in his day, but age is catching up to him. He has been playing in the Majors for 11 years.
Personality: A very good leader, and is always good with his infield.

Takumi Nakahigashi
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
29, 2B/3B, L/R, 1, E, E, E, A, A, B
Bio: He will make the play no matter what, a fantastic utility player who can play the infield with the exception of first base. He is not much of a hitter, but more than makes up for it with his fielding. He got his start in the Majors late, and has been making everything that he can out of it, only being up here for 5 years at 29.
Personality: A nice guy, but quiet.

Third Basemen:

Daisuke Fukuchi
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, S/R, 3, C, D, C, B, B, B
Bio: The true definition of a slap hitter. When batting from the left side he can hit to all fields exceptionally well, and from the right side he is good at pulling the ball out of the park. He too, graduated from Andromeda High, wearing the eye piece. He is a good 5-tool player.
Personality: Quiet, and speaks only when needed.

Ken Kamei
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, R/R, 3, C, B, C, D, D, D
Bio: He is a power hitter, somewhat. He thinks he is. Though, don’t get me wrong, he has the power to hit it out of the park. But only maybe 20 homeruns are possible.
Personality: Loud, and confident.

Outfielders:

Yoshitsugu Sugiya
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, L/L, 2, C, C, C, D, C, C
Bio: He is average at everything. Known for his crazy hair, and even crazier batting stance.
Personality: Off-the-wall, but kind-hearted.

Yoshi
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, 1B/SS, L/R, 2, D, F, A, D, C, D
Bio: He is an incredibly fast kid, and only goes by his given name. He plays a mean center, but can play short and first as well. A decent fielder, but speed is his primary asset.
Personality: Quiet, but very much liked. Kind to all.

Goro Shigeno
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
34, N/A, R/R, 3, B, B, C, A, C, C
Bio: Goro has been through it all. And I mean it ALL. He lost his mother at age 2, then his father died from being hit in the head by a 162 km/h (100 mph) fastball to the head at age 5. He broke his right shoulder when he was 9, but then converted to throwing left-handed. He was a pitcher up until this year, actually. He played in the MLB, throwing up to 165 km/h (103 mph)! But he dislocated his shoulder, and was forced to retire after 14 years. Not willing to leave baseball he trained rigorously for 2 years, and came back to play in the NPB (for the first time as he went to the MLB at age 18). He is now a Left-fielder and throws right-handed again.
Personality: The biggest baseball fanatic ever. Ever. He would never give up, no matter what. He is good in the clutch, and also will fire up the team when needed.

Yuuta Tanaka
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
33, N/A, R/R, 4, F, B, E, F, C, D
Bio: He is a very good power hitter, but can’t hit consistently.
Personality: A nice, humble fellow.

Ikuya Suzuki
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
20, N/A, R/R, 2, B, D, F, C, C, E
Bio: A good contact hitter with a decent arm, and a decent glove.
Personality: A very funny, outgoing guy.

Tadahiko Fujita
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
28, N/A, R/R, 2, C, C, F, E, D, E
Bio: He used to be one of the best hitters in the NPB, but an injury ruined it. He has been playing for 11 years.
Personality: Well respected, nice.

Touya Egawa
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, R/R, 3, B, C, A, C, D, E
Bio: More focused on the offensive half of baseball then the defensive half, Egawa is a fine player. He can hit homeruns, hit for average, and steal bases.
Personality: Quiet, kind

Tsuyoshi Matsunaga
AGE, 2ND POSTION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES
18, N/A, L/L, 3, C, C, A, D, D, D
Bio: A fantastic leadoff guy. He has been hitting leadoff almost all of his life. He can steal bases like crazy. And is a good hitter too. Not much of a fielder, but eh.
Personality: Outgoing, quick-witted.

Signed,
The Commissioner”

God, I’ll have to seriously look into this, and make some educated decisions on who to pick!

Well, that took a long time to type up...

So what happens to the Tigers? The new, nasty GM said he was going to get rid of their players.

I might just remake the characters from 2010, and put them on random teams in this game. There will probably be some continuity errors, since this is a different game... I'll do my best to fix what I can.

So, it's actually the start of 2011, like when you first start Success Mode, or did you sim up to 2013 in-game or something?

It's actually 2011, but I'm pretending that it's 2014...

Simulating up until 2014 would have taken too long, and would have made the players playing games for 3 years, so they wouldn't be rookies and all that.

Awesome! Thank you :D

I'll be putting up the pitchers and the draft later tonight (probably).
