Japanese has three alphabets.

Kanji is the least used, since it's typically some combination of Hiragana, or Katakana. In fact, Kanji is a Chinese alphabet that the Japanese adopted.

Hiragana and Katakana are used more often.

I don't play it much, since I feel I'm missing too much.

And both times I've played it, I've used batters.

This is the main reason I decided to abandon learning it before I even made any progress with it. It just didn't seem worth all the effort and confusion, there are a lot of languages much easier than that.

I might as well learn Spanish, it seems incredibly easy if you already know English and French, but that's completely unrelated to the topic...
