My name is Masumi Nishijima. I'm a switch hitting middle infielder drafted in the 1st round by Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of the 2011 draft. It's been my dream to become an NPB player since I was a little boy. And, finally, I've done it.

My first season didn't go as planned, unfortunately. I spent the entire year in and out of the majors, accumulating only 9 hits in 30 at-bats. Which translates to a .300 average, but still, it's not what I, or anyone else in the organization, was hoping for. I spoke with the manager, who has this odd habit of giving everyone letter grades, based on their abilities. He told me, "Son, right now, you're at the bottom of the barrel, to be frank."

He then shoved a piece of paper in my face, and showed me what my "grades" were.

SS/2B
CON: E
PWR: F
SPD: E
ARM: F
FLD: F
E RES: F
VS. Lefty 2, Baserunning 4

"All E's and F's?!" I shouted to him
"Unfortunately, yes. You'll start out next season down on the second string team. You've got to prove that you were a worthy 1st round pick, okay?"
"Yes sir!"

It's the beginning of spring training, 2012. I've got a lot to prove this season if I'm to prove my worth. I've got to give it my all this year.

Oh, by the way, here's a picture of me. Along with my beautiful apartment building. Which is very nice, considering how cheap it is.

---

Welp, I'm going to be doing this as a side project, so let's hope that it tuns out okay.

March 2012

Spring Training went by like a swift spring breeze. I did fairly well, managing to get a hit in 3 of the 4 games that I played in. Of course, though, I didn't start any games.

March 12

Like my manager had said, I would be starting the year down in on the second string team. When I got to the clubhouse for the first time I met up with the poor saps that were stuck down here. I noticed a new face, though, a kid named Okui. His locker was situated next to mine. "Hey Nishijima, right? I'm 19 too." I found it odd that that would be the first thing he would say to me. "Oh, uh, hey... Okui...? Welcome to the team." I replied
"Thanks. I was in the Marines system last season, but was plagued to the second string team for the majority of the year. It's nice to meet someone my age here!"
"Well, same to you, I suppose. It'll be a trip this year, no doubt. Best of luck to you Okui!"
"Hey, want to make a bet?"
"About what?"
"Who'll make it to the first string team first, of course. Loser buys dinner."
"Uh... Sure. I guess."
"Excellent! When I win, we'll be going to a fancy restaurant, so I hope that your salary will cover it!"
"Haha, very funny. It's quite clear I'll be the victor."
"I'll let you live in your fantasy world, Nishi."

"Alright boys, out to the field!" Our manager yelled out

"See you around, Nishijima."
"Yeah, a lot."

My stint with the second string team was a short one, since I was batting well over .400 with a homerun (which was a game winning grand slam), and 15 RBI in 2 weeks.

March 26

I got the call from my coach, "Nishijima, could I speak with you for a second?"
"Of course, sir."
"Come on into my office."

We walked to my office, and some of the veterans of this minor league team gave me a smile. I knew what was happening too, but was trying to contain my excitement.
"You're wanted up on the first string team."
My eyes lit up, "No way."
"Yes way, you'll be playing tomorrow. Make them proud."
"Yes sir!"

March 27

I was sent to the bench, naturally, but to my surprise, I was called in the 6th inning to pinch hit for the struggling Imanami, our current shortstop. My first at bat of the season resulted in a lineout to third. My second, and final, at-bat of the game came in the 8th. The pitcher threw a pitch right down the heart of the plate, and I turned on it, pulling it way over the right field wall! My first professional homerun!

March 31

I was sent back down to the second string team.
"Welcome back, Nishi." Okui said to me
"Well, I'll be taking that dinner now, Okui."
"Yeah, yeah. I know."

All I wanted was a pizza, so that's all we got.

I wonder if baseball was the right decision...

Hmm, I think this'll be interesting. Is it the first MLB Life-type log we've had for Pawapuro?

I believe so, yes

I've just started playing MyLife, and it's absolutely amazing.

Even though I don't understand what's going on, it's much better than the American versions. Rather, version.

The improved manager logic is the greatest thing ever.

I don't play MyLife that often (I'll likely play it even less if '13 has a WBC mode), but oh my god.

Literally the greatest thing.

Also, the improved fielding. They actually dive and make somewhat difficult plays! They steal hits! Oh, it's so annoying, but it's so great!

But the difference here is that they do it all the time. And it's awesome.

The fielders are actually intelligent, and the pitchers too. I love it. So much.

April 2012

April 13

My second stint with the second string team hasn't been all too good. I've been having some serious trouble. My hitting's been inconsistent, and my fielding has been as bad as ever. I really need to turn this boat around. I've moved from the leadoff spot down to the nine hole. And it isn't looking up.

April 14

I went a 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Maybe things are turning around!

April 19

I've been on an absolute tear as of late, and have been moved to the fifth spot in the lineup. I went 4-5 with a double and an RBI in today's game. My manager was really praising my performance.

April 20

Another game I did well in! 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI.

"Nishijima! Could I speak with you a second?" My manager pulled me aside
"What is it, sir?"
"You're wanted back up on the 1st sting team, son."
"Really?!"
"Yes indeed. They'll be expecting you tomorrow. I hope never to see you again, kid."
"Haha, I hope so too sir. Thank you very much!"

April 28

Well, it didn't last long... I was sent back down to the second string team, after going 3-7 in 5 games...

I'm not sure why I keep getting sent down, I mean, I feel that I'm better than the current starting shortstop. But, whatever.

April 29

In my first game back on the second string team, I went 4-5 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI. A pretty good showing that I belong in the NPB, if I say so myself.
