I don't think I've ever seen you say "noice"

But, whatever. We're off topic.

I should be getting the PS3 back from the shop before Tuesday.

I've been really anxious to update this...

June 21-23, 2011

We square off against the Beef in an extremely important series. They're only 1.5 games back, which is just too close for me. Hopefully we increase the deficit to at least 3.5 games back.

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 3 - Kobe Beef 6

W - Kenjiro Matsui (6-4)
L - Alberto Blanco (8-4)
SV - Akira Hirai (11)
HR - Jun Hisamoto (20)
Ichiban Nakamura (12)
Ryuji Fujii (5)
Efren Martinez (39)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 7 - Kobe Beef 5

W - Ricardo Diaz (1-1)
L - Yasushi Miura (6-3)
SV - Johnny Swagger (17)
HR - Takahiro Imanami (28)
Takeshi Ohnuma (25)
Ethan Mason (8)
Rolman Perez (11)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 0 - Kobe Beef 6

W - Izumi Kiyota (5-3)
L - William Chance (2-1)
HR - Jun Hisamoto (21)

June 24-27, 2011

Welp, we couldn't get it done against the Beef. At least we didn't get swept, so we still have our lead. However, we do get a lucky break, as this series, we face the lowly BayStars. Hopefully we don't take them for granted too much.

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 10 - Yokohama BayStars 6
W - Ricardo Diaz (2-1)
L - Hiroki Sanada (2-6)
HR - Daniel Sarfate (12)
Adam Henderson (14)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 2 - Yokohama BayStars 3
W - Kentaro Takasaki (7-6)
L - Zheng Ma (9-3)
SV - Shun Yamaguchi (20)
HR - Efren Martinez (40)
Brett Harper (14)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 8 - Yokohama BayStars 6
W - Cristobal Rodriguez (3-0)
L - Shigeru Kaga (3-5)
SV - Johnny Swagger (18)
HR - Efren Martinez (41)
Terrmel Sledge (13)

We went 3-3, which clearly wasn't good enough as the Beef took over first place. Still, their lead is as slim (0.5 games) as can be. We need to win this upcoming series against the Tigers to close out the month, and we also need the BayStars to play spoilers to the Beef. I still have plenty of faith in this team, despite this bump in the road...

I forgot your PS3 wasn't working! I have to point out that I noticed you were on yesterday afternoon. I was wondering whether you would update the Aliens as a result!

Pregame Notes: Alberto Blanco looks to get both himself and the team back on track against the 7th-place Hanshin Tigers. The Tigers will be sending out 24-year old righty Naoto Tsuru. Judging from Greene's scouting report on him, Tsuru seems to be quite mediocre, as he tops out in the low 90s and was graded only an F in control and D in stamina. He does have a decent slider, though.

Postgame Notes - Not the most exciting game, I'm glad we took home the W though.

Daniel Sarfate started the scoring in the top of the second, with an RBI double scoring Walter James. Mason followed with a 2-run blast off a hanging slider on a 3-0 count, his 9th of the season. All 3 runs came with two outs, which makes it even better.

The Tigers, however, would make a dent in Blanco's outing in the bottom of the 3rd, as they got their first run off a Matt Murton single. With the bases loaded and one out, Blanco worked through it by striking out slugging third baseman Takahiro Arai. He would later get first baseman Craig Brazell to pop up to James to end the inning, but not before star shortstop Takashi Toritani pushed across another run with a single. Just like that, it was a one-run game.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Tigers would tie it up thanks to a bases-loaded single by second baseman Keiichi Hirano. Blanco got Murton and Arai to pop up, keeping the score tied at 3-3.

The tie wouldn't last. Mason hit another homer in the top of the 5th, this being of the solo variety, to give us a 4-3 lead.

Not much else happened after that, Efren Martinez did hit an RBI double in the 8th to give us an insurance run though. Blanco went 6 innings to get his 9th win of the season, and Johnny closed out the game for his 19th save.

Pregame Notes: Wally Burton takes the hill today. He looked really well today, he was throwing a couple km/h faster than he normally does when I saw him warming up in the bullpen.

He faces seasoned righty Yasutomo Kubo, one of the rare starters who throws exclusively from the stretch. Kubo is a workhorse who is more than capable of going deep into games, and he has a variety of pitches that he can mix. However, he is a bit on the wild side and does walk his fair share of batters.

Right before the game started, Greene gave me some positive news regarding the development of one of our players. He told me that he bumped up lefty Andrew Nelson's stamina rating from a C to a B.

Player(s) of the Game: Image <- Ethan Mason & Wally Burton

Postgame Notes - Our 3rd win in a row.

Ethan Mason picked up right where he left off from yesterday's ballgame, as he drove in our first runs in the top of the 3rd with a 2-run shot to right field off of Kubo, his 11th of the year. We pushed across one more in the inning via an RBI single by Collins, but unfortunately, that was all we would score.

Fortunately, it turns out that was all the runs we needed to score in order to win! You know how I said Burton looked well in the bullpen? Well, he DID well. He struck out 7 over 8 innings, and took a shutout into the 8th. I would have let him go all 9 if he just kept the shutout!

Johnny got his 20th save of the season despite not hitting 160 once. I can't complain, though...

Series finale is tomorrow, which also happens to be the last day of June!

Pregame Notes: William Chance takes the hill as we look for a sweep of the 7th-place Tigers. He has a monumental task ahead of him, however, as he faces Tigers #2 starter Randy Messenger. Messenger throws hard, topping out at 95 mph, and he complements his fastball with a very nice slider.

He was a reliever in the MLB for the Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants, but he has thrived here in Japan as a starter.

Boxscore:

Nagoya Aliens 6 - Hanshin Tigers 0

Aliens' Batting
A. Henderson - 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R, .318
A. Collins - 1-4, RBI, .272
R. Perez - 2-4, HR (12), RBI, 2 R, .274

D. Sarfate - 2-3, R, E, .272
E. Mason - 0-4, .243
W. Chance - 0-2, SH, .000

Tomoyuki Kubota - 2 IP, 3 H, ER, 1.17
Yusuke Kawasaki - 2 IP, 2 H, ER, 2.56

Player(s) of the Game: Image <- Rolman Perez and William Chance

Postgame Notes - Our 4th win in a row, we sweep the Tigers while doing so.

Yet again, we were the first team to score in a game. This time, our first run came in the top of the 4th via a solo shot by Rolman Perez, his 12th on the year.

Henderson and Collins helped widen the gap in the next inning, with Henderson hitting a 2-run double and Collins driving him in with a single.

William Chance pitched a gem of a game, even better than his debut. He went the full 9 innings, giving up 0 runs and striking out 6. He also lowered his ERA from 3.69 to 2.59 in the process.

June is over, time to see what the team's stats are...

2. Nagoya Aliens (57-24-2, 0.5 GB)
3. Yomiuri Giants (41-37-5, 15 GB)
4. Yakult Swallows (37-40-6, 18.5 GB)
5. Hiroshima Carp (38-42-3, 19 GB)
6. Chunichi Dragons (35-45-3, 22 GB)
7. Hanshin Tigers (33-47-3, 24 GB)
8. Yokohama Baystars (33-49-1, 25 GB)

As the season starts to get closer and closer to the finish line, two exciting Triple Crown races have started to take shape.

For the hitting triple crown, Efren Martinez leads in both HR and RBI, and with Shinji Morino's average dropping 24 points this month, he's in a great position to take over the batting average title. I'm sure as hell rooting for him.

As for the pitching side of things, Toshihiro Maru, the ace for our rivals, the Kobe Beef, is leading the league in wins, ERA, and is tied with 3 others, including his teammate Christian Tanaka, for the K title. I'd like to see him slow up a bit, but we shouldn't be worrying about anyone else but ourselves.

We have an extremely long road trip that takes up more than half the month, I really do not like the scheduling job the league did here. I won't be doing any long recaps until the 19th, when we travel home to face the BayStars.

We look to keep our winning streak intact as we face the Yomiuri Giants for a 3-game set at the famous Tokyo Dome. They're one of the tougher teams in the league, I hope we don't lose any ground in the division race because of them...

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 6 - Yomiuri Giants 3

W - Shin-Ming Chen (5-3)
L - Hideki Asai (6-6)
HR - Daniel Sarfate (13)
Ethan Mason (12)
Alex Weiss (7)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 6 - Yomiuri Giants 1

W - Zheng Ma (10-3)
L - Tetsuya Utsumi (5-7)
HR - Adam Henderson (15)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 5 - Yomiuri Giants 1

W - Andrew Nelson (8-5)
L - Shun Tohno (6-6)
HR - Efren Martinez (42, 43)
Shinji Takahashi (2)

June 5-7, 2011

The good news: We swept the Giants. The bad news: We STILL failed to gain any ground in the division race. There's nothing we could do about that, we just need to sustain this winning streak.

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 6 - Yakult Swallows 3
W - Alberto Blanco (10-4)
L - Yoshinori Sato (5-4)
HR - Ethan Mason (13)
Walter James (7)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 4 - Yakult Swallows 4
W - Ø
L - Ø
HR - Ethan Mason (14)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 1 - Yakult Swallows 2
W - Takehiko Oshimoto (2-2)
L - Cristobal Rodriguez (3-1)

June 8-10, 2011

Yikes. Not the best series we've had, as that tie hurt us much more than it did help us. Hopefully we can regroup against the Dragons.

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 7 - Chunichi Dragons 8

W - Junichi Kawahara (2-1)
L - Shin-Ming Chen (5-4)
SV - Hitoki Iwase (23)
HR - Tony Blanco (3)
Pedro Gomez (1)
Arthur Collins (7)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 4 - Chunichi Dragons 2

W - Cristobal Rodriguez (4-1)
L - Junichi Kawahara (2-2)
SV - Johnny Swagger (21)
HR - Adam Henderson (16)
Efren Martinez (44)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 7 - Chunichi Dragons 1

W - Andrew Nelson (9-5)
L - Wei-Yin Chen (5-7)

June 12-14, 2011

We won the series, and I'm fairly pleased with this team. We now go up against the Carp, this series coming right before an extremely crucial series against the Beef. I call it the surf-and-turf special. But anyways, that series could set the tone for the rest of the season. However, for now, we need to focus on this series and this series alone.

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 1 - Hiroshima Carp 2

W - Ren Nakata (1-4)
L - Alberto Blanco (10-5)
SV - Dennis Sarfate (23)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 2 - Hiroshima Carp 0

W - Wally Burton (9-0)
L - Kenta Maeda (6-9)
SV - Johnny Swagger (22)
HR - Efren Martinez (45)
Walter James (8)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 4 - Hiroshima Carp 0

W - William Chance (4-1)
L - Bryan Bullington (6-6)

June 15-17, 2011

We won the series, which is all I could ask for. It's important to note that in game 3, Martinez became the first man to reach 100 RBIs in 2011.

We face the Beef (who we are 1.5 games behind right now) at their home stadium in what is in all likelihood our most important series so far this season. I hope we can work some magic against them.

Game 1

Nagoya Aliens 7 - Kobe Beef 8

W - Shohei Sawamura (7-1)
L - Shin-Ming Chen (5-5)
SV - Akira Hirai (21)
HR - Shinji Morino (12)
Takeshi Ohnuma (29, 30)
Adam Henderson (17)

Game 2

Nagoya Aliens 3 - Kobe Beef 7

W - Toshihiro Maru (12-1)
L - Zheng Ma (10-4)
SV - Akira Hirai (21)
HR - Jun Hisamoto (26)
Efren Martinez (46)
Takeshi Ohnuma (31)

Game 3

Nagoya Aliens 4 - Kobe Beef 8

W - Christian Tanaka (11-3)
L - Andrew Nelson (9-6)
HR - Takahiro Imanami (31)
Shinji Morino (13)
Shota Asamura (1)
Daniel Sarfate (14)

I...I don't know what to say.

*sigh*

In other news, Chen was demoted for poor performance. Taylor was sent back up to take the #6 spot in the rotation.
