But still, nine All-Star entries. Superb job, man.

June 26, 2011

I was getting ready to go to the All-Star Game, when all of a sudden, something went wrong. Very, very wrong.

I got dressed and went down the stairs, but there just so happened to be a toy car at the top. I didn't see it, and I fell down the stairs and broke my leg (The effort it took to not cuss in front of my kids was extremely high). I had to go to the hospital, where I was taken care of by the finest doctor Nagoya had to offer (it helps that he's a HUGE Aliens fan), Dr. Shouta Hidenori. He told me that I would be out of the hospital by the night of the 29th, but he also advised me to rest up and not to resume managing until the next off day after that, which was the 5th.

It sucked. BADLY. I haven't been through an injury before, most Indians fans know me as an extremely durable innings-eater, rarely, if ever, missing a start (for what it's worth, Dodger fans know me for an entirely different reason, but that's a story for another time). In fact, after looking it up on my phone, I only threw under 200 innings in 1 of my 9 seasons with them, and that was my rookie year!

Anyways, I had to call Preston to tell whoever it was that I wasn't going to be able to make it. He seemed a tad frustrated, but he was nice enough to tell me he'd visit tomorrow.

Hidenori stayed in the hospital room with me to watch the All-Star Game on TV. I took a little bit of notes on our guys, as well as write down the summary for archiving purposes:

Central League 4 - Pacific League 5

W - Hirotoshi Masui (Fighters)
L - Toshihiro Maru (Beef)
SV - Yasuhiko Yabuta (Marines)
HR - Ryo Hijirisawa (Eagles)

June 27, 2011

Preston came by the hospital today and offered up his best wishes. He also informed me that the team will visit me on the morning of the 29th, so that everyone is able to make it and not just the guys who aren't playing in the All-Star Games.

I was excited, I wonder what they had in store for me. I hope it's not some flimsy card...

Later, I tuned in to watch the 2nd All-Star game. Here's the results:

Central League 5 - Pacific League 9

W - Yoshihisa Hirano (Buffaloes)
L - Christian Tanaka (Beef)
HR - Jack Burnheart (Lightning)
Nobuhiro Matsuda (Hawks)
Kenji Saeki (Beef)

June 28, 2011

Jeez. The CL is getting its ass handed to them. I wish Maru and Tanaka pitched this shitty against teams in our league!

One of our own, Zheng Ma, is pitching today. I'd like for him to have something to boast about to the two aforementioned pitchers.

Perez is starting in place of Sakamoto today, so there is only one player in the starting lineup that isn't from an expansion team (Terrmel Sledge). Kinda crazy.

Central League 2 - Pacific League 3

W - Yoshihisa Hirano (Buffaloes)
L - Ricardo Diaz (Aliens)
SV - Brian Falkenborg (Falcons)
HR - Takahiro Okada (Buffaloes)
Efren Martinez (Aliens)

So yeah, a sweep. It's a bit disheartening, but hey, it's all for fun, so I'll try to convince the guys tomorrow to not get too emotionally invested in that series.

2 things:

1) The visit to the hospital will include player dialogue. If you have anything you want your players to say, just PM me and I'll make dialogue based around it.
2) To the person who chose the third option in the poll (I should probably request it to be removed), I know it doesn't say to explain, but it would be great if you could. Anything to help this out.

June 28, 2031

I had misplaced this journal exactly 22 years ago to this date, only finding it now as the family cleaned out the house looking for my belongings so I can reminisce about my past, as my life comes to an end. I had meant to buy a new journal but never got around to it. It never would have felt the same anyways.

I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (they still haven't found a cure yet, unfortunately) 6 years ago, and I am prepared to leave this mortal coil today. However, I would like to catch up on this journal before I go.

From 2011-2017 I managed the Aliens. Here's the breakdown of those years:

2011: Lost in CL finals
2012: Lost in CL finals
2013: Won NPB
2014: Won NPB
2015: Lost in NPB championship
2016: Missed playoffs
2017: Lost in CL finals

I left after 2017 to take a job in the MLB as pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians, the team I started my career with. I kept the job until 2022, then I managed the Chicago White Sox for two years. I was fired, as the team lost over 90 games in both of my years there (though the team wasn't very talented, though, especially since the team's former ace Chris Sale left as a free agent after 2020 to join the Boston Red Sox). After 2024, I decided to walk away from baseball completely.

I was inducted into both the Nagoya Aliens' Hall of Fame for being the team's inaugural manager and the NPB Hall of Fame for my work in making the NPB much more popular throughout the world.

Overall, in the 70 years I have lived on this earth, I am quite pleased with myself. I've had no need for a bucket list, that's for sure.

My main wish as I pass on is that my grandson Caleb also plays in the Majors. It would be amazing to keep that legacy going. Hopefully I've taught him well in the 6 years I've been able to see him. I also hope his uncle and one of my former players Andrew Nelson can serve as a wonderful role model for him, as he is still going strong in the MLB at age 38. Andrew was one of my best pitchers on the team before leaving for the MLB after the 2015 season to pitch for the Oakland A's.

Please tell Mr. Nelson to contact the players on the Aliens whom I have coached. I had a wonderful time coaching those kids.

To my family: I love you. I cannot stress this enough. I hope you read through this journal, it's a shame I couldn't document any more than I did.

You will hear from my lawyer tomorrow to discuss my will. Hopefully I make all of you happy.

Goodbye to everyone I know. Hopefully, you all live a wonderful life. I leave you now with a quote:

"Believe you can and you're halfway there."
- Theodore Roosevelt

As much as I hate to say it, this post marks the official death of this log.

With MLB 13: The Show only 10 days away, I will be playing pretty much that and Borderlands 2 until July, when Pawapuro 2013 comes out (2010, 2011, and 2012 were all announced to come out during July, so I assume this year is no different).

As for the Slayers, I'm not ready to call that off because it is on a different console so I can still update that if I feel like it and the PS3 is being used.

It was quite the trip, too bad this has to end. But it was a nicely done ending, nonetheless

To be honest, I was hoping for an ending where at least some of the Nagoya Aliens turned out to be actual Aliens. And I'm guessing my client fell to his death from pretty high up somewhere in those post years.

I know I haven't posted much in this log, but I've really enjoyed it. Nice to know that my client made it into the MLB... wait...

The Gunmen take place in 2015 and are about to start a series against the Athletics...

What...
