Beep...Beep.....Beep

I woke up to the sound of my unbearably loud alarm clock feeing very cold as I had been sleeping with no blanket on all night. I got out of bed and looked at my iPhone 4S and saw that I had 2 missed calls and a message.

My missed calls were from an unknown caller and one from Shai, my girlfriend. The message was from the same, unknown, number and it read "Hey Mr. Kenobi, call me back."

I decided I'd call him back later. I slipped into a pair of BayStars sweats, the team that I had been drafted by a week ago, and a Saikyo University t-shirt, and went for a jog.

When I got back from jogging 10 miles, I poured myself a bowl of cereal and scarfed it down while watching a new game show.

I picked up my iPhone and dialed in the number and decided to call whoever that was up. The man on the other side answered in an old-ish, scratchy voice,

"Hello, Mr. Kenobi?"

"Yes, this is Sosa Kenobi, you told me to call you back?"

"Yes, this is Mr. Ryozo Kato."

I was stunned because I remembered that Ryozo Kato was the commissioner of the NPB.

"THE Ryozo Kato?" I asked.

"Yes, Mr. Kenobi, the commissioner of the NPB."

"I'm honored to talk to you sir, but first off, call me Sosa, I'm only 18, and second off, why are you calling me?"

"Well, Sosa, the NPB is losing fan support, and we need to shake things up, so I've decided to add two teams this year. For the first team, I've got everything planned out, but for the second team we'd like the team to be co-player-owned."

"So, you're saying-

"Yes, Sosa, I'd like you to be one of the co-owners of the Sendai Snakes."

"Oh, Mr. Kato, I'd love to. But what happens to the BayStars?"

"Well, obviously, they'll lose you, but they'll get two first round picks next year because of this."

"Okay, well who else do you have to own this team?"

"Don't worry about that Sosa. I'm asking him currently."

"Alright, thank you Mr. Kato, see you around."

I was astonished at the fact that I had just become a player-owner in the NPB.

-bzzbzz-
My peaceful slumber was interrupted by the obnoxious buzzing of my phone.
I made the rational decision and hit the "ignore" button on its front, silencing it, and going back to sleep.

7:57

-bzzbzz-
So much for sleeping in.
I reached over to the side table that my phone rested on, almost knocking over the lamp situated in the middle of it in the process.
"H-helow...?" I mumbled
"Er, Kurihara?"
"Yeah."
"This is Ryozo Kato."
I was stunned because I remembered that Ryozo Kato was the commissioner of the NPB.
Suddenly I was very much wide awake
"Why're you calling me?"
"Well, kiddo, I'm thinking about starting up a new team or two, you know, for the ratings. The NPB's in the sink right now, we've got to shake it up a bit. You understand, right?"
"Uh, yeah, sure. Still haven't answered my question though, sir. Why are you calling me?"
"I want you to run it."
"...What?"
"Run the team. You and some other kid. Sosa. Know him? Gah, doesn't matter. You don't get a say. Meet me at my office in a week."
"...uh. What."
"Bye."

...

He hung up on me.

I scooted out of my bed.
That didn't make any sense.
Why does he want me to run a team?
I mean, I'd much rather be playing.
And who the hell is Sosa?

I changed out of my pajamas and put on my running threads.
4 miles should be fine today.

8:44

After I got home, ate, and showered I popped on the TV.
I saw an ad for the iPhone 4S.

"Hunh, I should really get around to getting one of those."

I was just driving home to my apartment after eating lunch when I heard a "ping" sound come from my phone indicating that I had just received an email. I thought, I wonder who that is.

13:45

I just got back to my apartment and kicked off my shoes, one banging off the window, showing the streets of Tokyo, and relaxed.

I remembered that I had received an email, and checked the Mail app on my iPhone. The email was from Ryozo Kato and read:

After reading that message I knew I was on my way to Sendai and booked myself a ticket for a flight and hotel in Sendai.

January 16th 2012, 19:12.

I had just got off the phone with Mr. Kato and I had learned all of the info for the Sendai Snakes organization. I decided I'd finally call up the other owner, by the name of Kurihara, and talk to him.

I dialed in the number, and listened to the ringing go on.

Beep.......beep........beep......

I heard the end to the beeping and on the other side of the line, a deep voice.

"Hello, this is Masato Kurihara, who is this?"

"...Oh! Uhm, this is Sosa... Sosa Kenobi."

"Oh, so you're the other owner guy."

"Yeah, that's me..."

....

...

"Right... So... I think we should probably meet somewhere," I said.

"Yeah, are you in Sendai yet Sosa?"

"No, I'm still in Tokyo..."

"Alright, well let's meet on the 18th at the Ohno coffee shop."

"Ok... See ya there. 8:30 good?"

"Yeah, I'll be there."
