The Phillies won 10 of 18 against Miami in 2012, marking the third straight year they have taken the season series between the two. In fact, since 2005 the Marlins have won the season series just once - when they won 10 of 18 during Philadelphia's 2008 title-winning campaign.

Edinson Volquez gave up six runs to the Mets on Opening Day 2013 and was pulled after recording just nine outs. In franchise history, the only other Padres starter to get 9 outs or fewer on Opening Day was Andy Ashby, who allowed eight hits and six runs to the Rockies in the first inning on April 4, 1999.

Jonathan Papelbon picked up save #620 on April 14th against the Marlins, pitching a scoreless 9th with a 2-1 lead.

The New York Mets' Collin Cowgill hit a grand slam in the seventh inning on Opening Day 2013, joining Todd Hundley as the only Mets players with Opening Day grand slams in franchise history. Cowgill also become the first Mets player to hit a grand slam while batting first in the lineup since Angel Pagan on Aug. 1, 2009.

The Yankees' Opening Day 8-2 loss was their first home loss on Opening Day since 1982. They'd won 11 straight such games.
In every Opening Day game since 1999 the Yankees had scored at least two runs. Monday was the first time they were held to two runs or fewer on Opening Day since a 4-1 loss to the Angels in 1998. Andy Pettitte was the Yankees Opening Day starter that year.

No one homered in the Red Sox-Yankees game on April 1st, 2013. Since the new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009, that has happened only three other times in 72 games between the teams, all at Fenway Park.

In 2008, Edwar Ramirez's 10.25 strikeouts per inning ratio was seventh-best among American League relievers. He did not give up a run at any level of baseball through May 31, a total of thirteen consecutive appearances.

Five of the last six MLB seasons have seen exactly one Opening-Day starter not record more than 9 outs. Last year's distinction went to Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers. In 2011 it was the Indians' Roberto Hernandez and Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs did it in 2010.

Dating back to 2012, 23 year-old Matt Moore is the first Rays pitcher to not allow a run in his last three starts.

In 2013, Bryce Harper became the youngest player in MLB history with a multi-home run game in his team's Opening Day. That honor previously belonged to Don Money, a Philadelphia Phillies shortstop who in 1969 went deep twice off Ferguson Jenkins. Harper also became the first player in Nationals/Expos franchise history with home runs in his first two at-bats of the season, regardless of age. The only other players in franchise history to hit a pair of home runs on Opening Day in any at-bats were Vladimir Guerrero (2000) and Al Oliver (1983). The feat lastly meant Harper was just the third player in the live-ball era to have two home runs in an Opening Day game where his team only scored two runs - the others both lost. They were Luis Gonzalez for the Diamondbacks in 2004, and Joe Torre for the Braves in 1966.

John Buck's grand slam on Friday means he now has six bombs on the year and is the first Met to homer in four straight games since David Wright did it in 2007. Meanwhile, his 19 RBI are the most ever for a player in their first 10 games with a new team.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kevin Slowey (of Miami) is the first Major League pitcher to lose 10 straight starts since Mike Boddicker dropped 13 straight for the Orioles in 1987-88.

The Yankees turned the first 4-6-5-6-5-3-4 triple play in Major League history tonight in the eighth inning of their 5-2 win over the Orioles. Manny Machado was the unlucky Oriole who put the ball into play and he represented the third out while he was caught between first and second base.

In 2002 and 2005, catcher Jason Kendall led the majors in at-bats per strikeout (18.1 in 2002, 15.4 in 2005). He also led the major leagues in 2005 in times reached base on an error. From 2002 through 2004, Kendall led all major league catchers in games and innings behind the plate. He is the Pirates' all-time leader in games caught.

Roy Halladay is the 109th pitcher to collect 200 wins in his career - and one of two active staters (along with Andy Pettite) to do so.

The Marlins are the 1st team since the '88 Orioles (who started the season 0-21) to win no more than one of their first 10 games in a season while scoring 17 or fewer runs (the Orioles had 16 runs through 10 games).

Pitcher Greg Maddux was the only Padre to steal a base in July 2008. The veteran lefty was 42 at the time.

"You don't face Ryan without your rest. He's the only guy I go against that makes me go to bed before midnight." - Reggie Jackson in 1984, on Hall-of-Famer Nolan Ryan

The Phillies have had a winning record on the road for nine straight seasons.

From May 27 to July 25, 1933, Joe DiMaggio got at least one hit in a PCL-record 61 consecutive games for the San Francisco Seals. That's 5 more than his MLB streak. Of the original milestone he said: "Baseball didn't really get into my blood until I knocked off that hitting streak. Getting a daily hit became more important to me than eating, drinking or sleeping."

Phillies' shortstop Jimmy Rollins and second baseman Chase Utley have started 968 games together as a double-play combo, the second-highest total in the Major Leagues. Only the Yankees' Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano have played more games (1,036) together.

"Carlton does not pitch to the hitter, he pitches through him. The batter hardly exists for Steve. He's playing an elevated game of catch." - Tim McCarver, Carlton's catcher with the Cardinals

Since 2000, the Phillies are 30-16 in Cincinnati. In fact, the Reds haven't won a season series against the Phillies since 2003.

The Reds' nine pinch-hits this season (as of April 16) lead the National League. Philadelphia is second with eight.

Shin Soo-Choo became the Reds' first leadoff hitter to have three homers in the season's first five games since Chris Sabo did it in 1990.

Chase Utley's two-out, pinch-hit home run in the eighth against Bronson Arroyo of the Reds on April 16 was the fifth pinch-hit homer of his career, and the first since June 1, 2005.

Against Homer Bailey (as of 4/16/13), Phillies 2B Chase Utley is hitting just .235 in 17 at-bats. All four of his hits are singles.

In 1963, pitcher Gaylord Perry remarked "They'll put a man on the moon before I hit a homerun." On July 20,1969, just minutes after Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, Gaylord Perry hit his first homerun.
