I mean, he could. But what is most people perception of Nick Markakis? I don't know anyone who put him into the class of elite. Or even the class of very good. Most people just view him as an average to above average outfielder. That's what I thought until I saw the stats.

Even then, he doesn't have the speed or even quite the power of guys like Biggio and Jeter. His career high in steals if 18. Jeter and Biggio both tied or passed that 10 times. His power is probably comparable to Jeter and just a notch below Biggio. Which is good. For a middle infielder. Considering he's a RF, you want a bit more than that.

If he does manage to hit 3000 (he would need probably 150 a year for 10 more years), he would probably either break the mold of "3000 is a lock" and fall off the ballot after just a few tries, or he'd manage to stay on for 15 years and just sneak in at the end.

Wrong. The rules were different, but technically, the award did exist during Ruth's playing days

Markakis did have above-average pop earlier in his career.

If he can stay consistent enough to get 3,000 hits while averaging around 15 homers a year, he should definitely get HOF consideration.
