Sure, that'd be Scott Player at punter, and John Navarre at 3QB if the internet is correct cuz I honestly don't know.

Week 7 @ ImageRaiders(4-2): L, 20-23

We lost again on a last minute field goal. :( We're now tied with the Seahawks for 1st place in the division.

ImageArizona Cardinals(4-3) @ ImageGreen Bay Packers(3-3)

Oct. 29- The Cardinals lost another close game in Week 8, falling to the Packers on a last second field goal, their third such loss already this season.

The Game didn't start too badly, as the Cardinals won the toss, deferred, and got the ball back after a Green Bay 3 & out. They then marched down the field, converting on two 3rd downs along the way, and scored on a beautiful 21 yard pass to rookie TE Leonard Pope on an wheel route, for his first career touchdown. The Packers were able to answer with a field goal, from 48 yards out by Billy Cundiff just before the end of the 1st quarter.

After trading possessions a few times with not much results, Arizona was finally able to get something going and score on a 52 yard field goal from Neil Rackers. The Packers were nearing the red zone with their 2 minute offense shortly before half time, but Karlos Dansby intercepted the Brett Favre pass over the middle, and the Cardinals were able to run out the clock, take the lead into half time, and come back out with the ball.

The 3rd quarter was similar to the end of the 2nd, with a few missed opportunities by both teams, but not much action. As the quarter came to a close, the Packers took over the ball on their 45, and flew down the field with 5 consecutive passes, the 5th being a 22 yard touchdown to Greg Jennings, tying the game at 10-10.

Arizona opened the 4th quarter on a mission, and the offense was able to set up Neil Rackers for another field goal, which he connected on again from 51 yards. As time was winding down, Green Bay got the ball back, and after a costly offsides penalty on a 2nd and 10(which would've turned into a 3rd and 10), the Packers moved into field goal territory and tied the game with :48 seconds left on a 47 yard field goal. Matt Leinart took the field looking to win the game for his team, but ended up doing the opposite. Nick Barnett intercepted him on the Arizona 37 yard line, and after a few running plays to inch closer, the Packers ended the game with a game winning 43 yard field goal to clinch hand the Cardinals a 13-16 loss.

Once again, the running game was almost non-existent for the Cardinals, with Edgerrin James gaining just 47 yards on 21 carries. On the bright side, Arizona's defense did the same to Ahman Green, holding him to 39 yards on 17 carries. The passing game wasn't great either, partially because of the pressure forced by Green Bay, who ended the day with 4 sacks. Larry Fitzgerald was shut down by Green Bay's Al Harris, who held Fitz to 0 receptions on the day. A notable defensive performance for the Cardinals was defensive lineman Chike Okeafor, who had 6 tackles and 3 sacks on the day.

After taking their bye week next week, the Cardinals will host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.

ImageDallas Cowboys(5-3) @ ImageArizona Cardinals(4-4)

Nov. 12- It was another bad day to be a Cardinals fan, as they took another painful loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys. Arizona was plagued by turnovers and missed opportunities, and it came back to haunt them.

The 1st quarter started out great for Arizona, as they scored on their third play of the game after their defense forced a 3 & out by Dallas. Matt Leinart hit Anquan Boldin on an out-and-up route, and Boldin won the 63 yard race to the end zone. The first error of the game came just after, as Neil Rackers missed the extra point(don't try to snapchat and play Madden at the same time, kids). The Cardinals scored again on the next drive, as Cardinals fans finally got to see what they've been waiting for all year. On an outside handoff, Edgerrin James spun around a linebacker, ran over a cornerback, and then stiff armed the safety en route to a 36 yard beast mode touchdown run. A made extra point by Rackers gave Arizona a 13-0 lead nearing the end of the quarter. After that however, not much went right for the Cardinals.

On their next drive, deep in their own territory, Matt Leinart was sacked and lost the football on his way down. Bobby Carpenter scooped up the loose ball and ran the 12 yards into the end zone, narrowing Arizona's lead to 13-7. Defense continued to dominate the quarter, with no one else threatening to score for the rest of the half.

Early in the 3rd quarter, Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe was forced out of the game due to taking a hit after a pass. He remained out for the rest of the game, bringing backup Tony Romo in to play. Romo made a big splash on his first play, hitting Terrell Owens on a 58 yard pass for a touchdown. The missed extra point came into play here, as the Cowboys were able to take a 14-13 lead. The Cardinals stormed down the field on the next drive, appearing to have the answer, but Matt Leinart fumbled again on a scramble. Dallas unfortunately recovered, taking possession at their 7 yard line.

After a long Dallas drive down the field, they scored on a 48 yard field goal to take a 17-13 lead with 3:00 minutes left in the game. Despite all this, the Cardinals still had 2 more chances to win the game. Leinart blew both of these, throwing an interception with 2:30 left near midfield, and again with :55 seconds left with the Cardinals in field goal range. The Cowboys ran out the clock, and were able to steal the win after a sloppy performance by Arizona.

Even though Leinart did not have a good day, Edgerrin James had a breakout performance, going for 135 yards on 25 carries, with a TD as well. This loss dropped Arizona to 4-5 on the year, pushing them even farther behind the Seahawks in the division.

Well, it was a tragic season for Arizona, who after starting 4-2, lost their next 10 games to end the season at 4-12. At least they'll get the 3rd pick in the draft this spring. I was originally going to play a few more games at the end of the season, but I figured why bother? Final standings are below, the playoffs will be the next update.

I expect BrewersFuzz to be fired from the GM position after this disappointing season.

Nah, fam #comeback

This is a playoff bracket I threw together, if you can read it. Our friendly friends the Seahawks made it to the Super Bowl for the 2nd straight year, only to lose to the Ravens. Poor them.

OFF-SEASON SUMMARY: CARDINALS MAKE OFF-SEASON SPLASH IN FREE AGENCY, THE DRAFT, AND COACH SIGNINGS
Image

The Cardinals have begun the shake-up of their team in an attempt to rebuild, by first signing 3 new coaches. For some reasons, the Ravens let go of their head coach, Brian Billick, shortly after their Super Bowl win over Arizona's rival, the Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals are thrilled to get such a knowledgeable, talented, experienced coach, especially one who knows how to beat the Seahawks. The Cardinals also switched it up at both coordinator slots, hiring Cam Cameron as the new Offensive Coordinator, and Ron Rivera at Defensive Coordinator. Hopefully the new coaches can make a difference for Arizona, who went 4-12 last season.

The Cardinals had 2 players retire following the 2006 season, FS Robert Griffith and C Robert Tate. Tate was a backup for the Cardinals, but Griffith was the starting Free Safety, who started all 16 games last year and ended with 78 tackles and 2 interceptions. Also retiring was former Cardinals QB Kurt Warner, after playing 1 year for the Browns, in which he threw for 2700 yards, 17 TD's, and 17 INT's.

The Cardinals addressed one of their most glaring weaknesses in free agency, pass defense, by signing FS Sean Taylor(94 OVR) and CB Charles Woodson(85 OVR), each to 3 year deals. The two will definitely improve the secondary, which was shredded by opposing quarterbacks all year last year.

With the secondary issues addressed in free agency, Arizona went into the draft looking to improve the offensive line. With the 3rd overall pick, GM BrewersFuzz felt there were no suitable linemen available, so he turned to the defensive line. BrewersFuzz drafted DE R.J. Curry, and it appears to be a great pick, as Curry is already an 88 overall. The Cardinals traded their two 3rd round picks(pick 3 and 14 of the round) for the 15th pick of the 1st round. With this pick, they took RG Vondrell Diggs, from Wake Forest. Diggs is an 82 overall, and will be an immediate improvement at right guard, where he will start this year. In the 2nd round, Arizona traded their pick to the New York Jets for 2nd year center Nick Mangold, the former 1st round pick. This took care of the Cardinals last real weak position, as they did not have a center on the roster before the trade. 2 more names drafted by Arizona that you may hear this year are 4th round pick, defensive back/kick returner/punt returner, Denard Wesley(77 OVR) and 5th rounder, backup tight end, Chris Gonzalez(78 OVR).

Closing off the off-season, Arizona traded LE Chike Okeafor(86 OVR) to the Bengals for their OLB Landon Johnson(84 OVR) and a 4th round draft pick. This trade frees up room for R.J. Curry to start at LE this year, and shores up what was the worst position for the Cardinals, outside linebacker. With Johnson and Kamerion Wimbley at OLB, Arizona is now set with a solid, young tandem.

Arizona went 2-2 in the preseason, which is better than the 0-4 performance of last year. The terrible news from the preseason is that Vondrell Diggs, the first round right guard, broke his foot and will miss the whole season. Despite this, hopefully the new coaching staff and rejuvenated defense can spark a playoff run for the Cardinals this year!

ImageSeattle Seahawks(0-0) @ ImageArizona Cardinals(0-0)

Sept. 9- It was a glorious start to the 2007 season for the Arizona Cardinals, as the defensive and coaching overhaul payed off big time in Week 1. The Cardinals took on the reigning NFC champion Seattle Seahawks at home, and pounded them, led by their defensive effort.

Sean Taylor, the safety making his first start for the Cardinals, wasted no time in marking his territory in Arizona. On the second play from scrimmage, Taylor hammered Shaun Alexander, forcing a fumble, which was picked up and returned 42 yards for a touchdown by DE Bertrand Berry. The crowd roared it's approval, and you got a sense that maybe things will be different this year in Arizona. After getting the ball back, the Seahawks were able to work into field goal range, and put up their first points of the season on a 51 yarder by Josh Brown. As the 1st quarter drew to a close, Seattle had the ball within the red zone, but was unable to score thanks to some great defense by the Cardinals, forcing another Josh Brown field goal to preserve the 7-6 lead for Arizona.

Matt Leinart led off the 2nd quarter by throwing an interception, but the other new defensive back in town, Charles Woodson, had his back. Woodson intercepted Matt Hasselbeck's rushed throw, returning it all the way to the Seattle 14. After a short run and a sack, Leinart connected with Larry Fitzgerald for the first time of the year from 21 yards, stretching the lead to 14-6. Arizona had the ball again with the half nearing it's end, and was able to drive the length of the field and score on a 1 yard pass to Leonard Pope, which put Arizona up 21-6 at halftime.

The next score didn't come until midway through the 3rd quarter, on a 44 yard field goal by Neil Rackers, extending the lead to 24-6. After this, Arizona was very content to run the ball and keep the clock moving, while the defense continued to stuff the Seahawks.

It appeared as if Seattle might finally break into the end zone with 3:25 left in the 4th, but Sean Taylor did Sean Taylor things and came up with an interception on his own 4 yard line. The offense was able to move away from their goal line, and a punt by Scott Player pushed the Seahawks way back into their own territory. They were unable to score, and turned it over, which allowed the Cardinals to run the clock out.

This game is a very promising sign of what things may be like now in Arizona. Hopefully they can keep the dominating defense up! Starting LT Leonard Davis(88 OVR) missed this game with a pectoral injury, but is expected to make his season debut next week.
