After nearly a decade of coaching, Sean Payton has decided to call it quits. A shock move, considering Payton is only 51 years old, but Payton cited that he does not have anything more to accomplish. Payton thanked New Orleans for the memories, including a Super Bowl Title in 2009. Derrick Giles, former Head Coach of several college teams, including Illinois, Duke, Kentucky, Oregon State, and Utah State, will be tasked with replacing Sean Payton. Giles is known for his balanced offense, but he will definitely call for more pass plays, as he has never coached a quarterback of Drew Brees' caliber. Giles hopes to improve a pretty mediocre defense, which has major weaknesses at the defensive line and linebacker positions. The Saints were known for their imposing defense back when they were champions in 2009, and Derrick Giles is looking to return the team to that point. The Saints look to improve upon a 7-9 finish in 2014.

Here is the schedule for the upcoming season. Derrick Giles believes that Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals will be a big test, as the Cardinals look to be vastly improved. Hopefully the Saints will get off to a hot start against Arizona.

New Orleans Saints 0-0 @ Arizona Cardinals 0-0

Derrick Giles led his team on the field in hopes that the 2015 season would be much better than the 2014 season, in which the Saints missed the Playoffs with a 7-9 record. The first drive of the game for the Saints went perfectly according to plan, with Mark Ingram pounding the middle, and Drew Brees connecting on several short passes. However, Drew Brees was sacked on a 2nd & 2 on the Cardinals 42, and couldn't hold on to the ball as the Cardinals recovered, a disappointing end to a promising drive.

Defensively, the Saints looked awfully outmatched, Carson Palmer connected with Malcom Floyd on a 40 yard pass, and John Brown (not the abolitionist) on a 7-yard TD. Palmer threw for a total of 61 yards on the drive.

The Saints' second drive was a dud, a three-and-out after Drew Brees was sacked.

The Saints defense walked onto the field only to be humiliated for a second time, as Carson Palmer continued to light up poor secondary, and David Johnson was able to shed several weak tackles. The drive culminated in a six yard TD pass from Palmer to Malcom Floyd. The Cardinals were out to a quick 14-0 lead.

The Saints offense responded beautifully, as Mark Ingram was able to gain key yardage, putting the Saints at the 6 yard line. Drew Brees was sacked at the 18 on second down, but recovered to throw an 18-yard TOUCHDOWN to Mark Ingram. A wonderfully executed drive pulled off by Brees and Ingram.

However, the Cardinals offense picked apart the Saints weak d yet again, but coach Bruce Arians made a terrible coaching error, refusing to call their last timeout with the ball at the 6, Palmer waited until the last second, and the pass was deflected by Delvin Breaux. Instead of having a 17-7/21-7 lead at the half, Arizona held a 14-7 lead.

On the first defensive drive, the Saints actually forced a three and out! Carson Palmer overthrew Larry Fitzgerald, who probably would've beaten his man. Cardinals give away another drive.

The Saints got the ball back at their own 45, and continued to move the ball. Drew Brees couldn't do enough to get a first down at the 34, as his pass to Benjamin Watson was complete, but Watson was tackled at the 34. Kai Forbath nailed a 51 yarder to cut Arizona's lead to 14-10.

Drops killed the Cardinals on their second drive of the second drive, as their receivers dropped three passes. Carson Palmer was understandably frustrated coming off the field so soon.

The Saints continued to pound the ball up the middle with Mark Ingram, but had to again attempt a 51 yard field goal. This time, Kai Forbath missed it completely to the right.

Larry Fitzgerald finally caught the football for once in this game, and broke a weak tackle for 62-yard TD. 21-10 Arizona.

The Saints tried to throw more on their next drive, but it didn't pan out, as Drew Brees threw an absolutely horrible pass for an INT, the Cardinals got it at the Saints 11.

The defense actually made something happen, stuffing the Cardinals at the 5 yard line, and Arizona had to settle for a 22-yard chipshot to make it 24-10. Not what they wanted.

The Saints tried to go pass heavy again, and it failed as Brees was heavily pressured, taking one sack. Brees just missed a huge completion to Marques Colston on 3rd & 23. Another punt.

When it appeared as if the Saints had made a huge stop, Larry Fitzgerald caught a jump ball in the end zone for a 41 yard TD, making it 31-10 and pretty much ending the game.

Drew Brees looked like his younger self while leading a 70 yard touchdown drive, completed with a short TD pass to Benjamin Watson.

The Saints eventually stopped the Cardinals, but a key rush by David Johnson made sure the Saints ran out of timeouts.

A good punt pinned New Orleans inside their own 10, and it led to Drew Brees being sacked for a game-clinching safety. 33-17 Cards.

FINAL SCORE:
Saints 17
Cardinals 33

STATS:
Passing
Drew Brees 14-22, 138 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT, 1 FUM
Carson Palmer 15-23, 294 YDS, 4 TD

Rushing
Mark Ingram 17 ATT, 83 YDS
David Johnson 20 ATT, 75 YDS

Receiving
Larry Fitzgerald 5 REC, 140 YDS, 2 TD
Malcom Floyd 3 REC, 36 YDS, TD
John Brown 2 REC, 32 YDS, TD
Jaron Brown 1 REC, 7 YDS
Jermaine Gresham 3 REC, 36 YDS
Corey Peters 1 REC, 6 YDS
Benjamin Watson 5 REC, 34 YDS, TD
Josh Hill 2 REC, 14 YDS
Seantavious Jones 1 REC, 7 YDS
Marques Colston 1 REC, 14 YDS
Devin Hester 1 REC, 9 YDS
Mark Ingram 1 REC, 13 YDS, TD

A disappointing start for New Orleans, but sort of expected. The defense definitely needs some work, but there was some promise. Drew Brees was decent, and Mark Ingram was superb. The Saints will prepare for their home opener versus the Bucs.

(I was going to use the same format as Week 1, but the forum glitched out and I lost everything) The Saints grabbed a big victory on their Home Opener after Drew Brees connected with Josh Hill for a walkoff 2-yard Touchdown. The Saints defense looked very vulnerable in allowing big plays, but they controlled time of possession well, enough to only allow 17 points. Mark Ingram again was fantastic, rushing for 140 yards! The Saints now take on the 2-0 Carolina Panthers on the road, a very tough game.

New Orleans Saints 1-1 @ Carolina Panthers 2-0

Derrick Giles and the Saints headed to Bank of America Stadium, looking to build upon the momentum they gained off Josh Hill's walkoff touchdown. It seemed as if the Panthers would walk over the Saints, but they stalled on third down at the Saints 47, and punted.

The Saints focused mostly on running the ball with Mark Ingram, but Drew Brees also threw for 37 yards, leading to a Kai Forbath 34-yard field goal.

However, Cam Newton and the Panthers responded brilliantly, as Cam completed numerous passes, capping thee drive off with a quick TD pass to Jerricho Cotchery.

The Saints tried to lead one final first half drive, and Drew Brees executed it perfectly, completed many passes, including one on fourth down. The clock was the only problem, as they ran out of time, and had to settle for a Kai Forbath field goal to make it 7-6 Carolina. Fortunately though, they got the ball to start the second half.

The Saints again continued to throw numerous short passes, as Drew Brees often connected with TE Josh Hill. The Saints converted on numerous third downs, and the drive ended with a 1-yard Drew Brees TD run. The Saints failed the 2-PT conversion, but led 12-7.

Cam Newton again responded well, picking apart the New Orleans defense, finding Ed Dickson for a short touchdown. The Panthers also converted the 2-point conversion.

Then, with five minutes left, Drew Brees needed to be a hero again. And he was just that. The drive looked to be blown up, with Ingram fumbling, but making a huge recovery on third down. On 4th and 14, Brees connected with Brandon Coleman for a huge first down! On another 4th and 1, Ingram rushed up the middle for a key first. With 9 seconds left, Drew Brees found Rashaun Allen for the game-winning touchdown! Another late touchdown sent Saints fans everywhere into a frenzy!

As you can see, the Saints defense definitely does not look flattering. The defense has not forced a turnover in the first three games, and have only recorded 2 sacks. Offensively, the team loves long possessions, as Mark Ingram and Drew Brees have been the biggest reasons why the defense hasn't given up 40 points every single game. Mark Ingram will have to keep on this pace if the Saints are going to be a playoff threat this season.

Dallas Cowboys 2-1 @ New Orleans Saints 2-1

On national TV, the Saints looked to extend their winning streak to three games, facing Tony Romo and the 2-1 Dallas Cowboys. The Saints defense would have to play better late in games in order for the Saints to get the win. It was another rough start for the weak New Orleans defense, as Tony Romo laughed at the pass coverage, throwing several passes to wide open receivers, finishing with a 32-yard TD pass to Terrance Williams. Romo threw for 73 yards on the first drive alone.

The Saints offense struck right back, with Drew Brees connecting on several passes, including one on 4th and 3, a huge risk taken, but with the way Drew has been playing this season, it's almost a guaranteed first down. Mark Ingram ran for 31 yards on the drive, and Cj Spiller had a big 15 yard run to the outside. The drive culminated with a pass from Drew Brees to Marques Colston for an 8-yard TOUCHDOWN to tie it at 7.

The Saints defense forced the Cowboys to a quick 3-and-out, with Tony Romo's two passes on the drive being easily deflected.

The Saints offense struggled to get anything going, but Drew Brees connected with Josh Hill for a huge 3rd down conversion, however Terron Armstead was penalized for holding, and the Saints were forced to eventually punt.

Again, the Cowboys picked apart the Saints weak zone defense, as Tony Romo threw for 68 yards on the drive. Lance Dunbar walked in for a 1-yard touchdown, giving Dallas a 14-7 lead. Derrick Giles was clearly frustrated with the defensive play.

Drew Brees was excellent on the Saints final drive, bringing the Saints down to the 6. The Saints ran out of timeouts, and attempted one final play, hoping to find the end zone. Ben Watson was stopped at the one after Brees threw too quickly, and the clock ran out. Very disappointing for the Saints, who lost a big chance to put at least 3 points on the board.

The near touchdown drive hurts even more, considering the first drive of the second half for the Saints. New Orleans couldn't get anything going in the running or passing game, and had to punt the ball away.

It appeared as if the defense would again allow Tony Romo to step over them again, but they got a huge stop on 3rd and short, but Dan Bailey nailed a 53-yard field goal to make it 17-7.

The Saints continued to run the ball, and Drew Brees completed a few passes, a lot of them were close to interceptions. However, the Saints suffered their first injury of the season as Brandin Cooks suffered an abdominal tear. The Saints had to settle for a 34-yard field goal. The Cowboys led 17-10.

The Cowboys drove, and needed a score to close the game, but the Saints got a huge sack, pushing Dallas back to midfield, and then forced their first turnover of the year, as Romo was picked off by Delvin Breaux.

The Saints needed Brees to step up, and he did. A huge completion to Marques Colston allowed the Saints to eat up the clock to not give Dallas any time to break their hearts, and Cj Spiller scored a 1-yard TD to tie the game, sending it to OT.

The Saints were on the lucky side of the coin toss, winning the toss and electing to receive. Tim Lelito was called for a holding on 3rd and 1, taking a first down and turning it into a 3rd and 11. However, Drew Brees connected with Josh Hill for a big first down. Brees had many other big first down throws, but Mark Ingram stole the show once again, leading the team down to the 1, where Cj Spiller scored his second 1-yard TD of the game, giving the Saints another late victory, 23-17.

FINAL SCORE:
Cowboys 17
Saints 23

STATS:
Passing:
Drew Brees 23-29, 255 YDS, TD
Tony Romo 13-17, 183 YDS, TD, INT

Cj Spiller 8 ATT, 40 YD, 2 TD
Lance Dunbar 17 ATT, 43 YDS, TD

New Orleans Saints 3-1 @ Philadelphia Eagles 1-3

The Saints received some tough news. Brandin Cooks will miss five weeks due to an abdominal tear. Marques Colston will get a chance to be the #1 receiver. The Saints allowed the Eagles to drive, but eventually held them at the 35. However, the refs botched a call, as Delvin Breaux clearly got two feet down and had full possession of the ball. Giles challenged, but the refs still called it a completion! Giles was absolutely furious. The Eagles then hit a 52-yard field goal to go up 3-0.

The Saints abandoned their strategy of pounding the middle, and threw ten passes, nine of them completed. Marques Colston had a big endzone drop, and Brees was sacked back to the 15, but he eventually connected with Brandon Coleman for a 15-yard touchdown, giving the Saints a 7-3 lead.

The Eagles tried to use Darren Sproles up the middle, but the Saints sent the heat, forcing Philadelphia to punt.

The next drive was slower, and holding penalties killed the Saints yet again. However, Drew Brees made a huge play, throwing the ball away to avoid a sack. This allowed Kai Forbath to kick a 51-yard field goal to put New Orleans ahead 10-3.

The Saints actually got a takeaway! A tip drill interception by Kenny Vaccaro gave the Saints a chance to put up at least 3 more points.

Drew Brees completed a few passes to set up a 40-yard field goal. The Saints went to the locker room holding a 13-3 lead.

Again, the Saints utilized the running game, as Mark Ingram ran for about 30 yards, including a touchdown run, giving New Orleans a 20-3 hold.

The Eagles drove the ball down the field, with a lot of dink and dunk plays, but Sam Bradford overthrew his target, and Jairus Byrd was there for the interception.

On the second play of the drive, Drew Brees connected with Josh Hill, who broke three tackle for a 54 yard TOUCHDOWN. The Saints led 27-3.

Darren Sproles had a huge rush, but the Saints again sent the heat, recording numerous sacks, and the Eagles could not convert on fourth down, giving New Orleans the ball back with 5 minutes to go.

The Saints ran the clock down, got a key fourth down conversion, but eventually punted the ball.

The Eagles still completed a few passes, but ran out of time, and lost their fourth game of the season.

FINAL SCORE:
Saints 27
Eagles 3

You read that right. The New Orleans Saints are 5-1 after a comeback victory Thursday night, scoring 17 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Mark Ingram continued his dominant season, and Brees was his usual self, connecting with a wide open Brandon Coleman for a 44-yard TD. Kenny Vaccaro was a big hero, forcing a safety that changed all the momentum. The Saints will go to Indianapolis to face the 5-1 Colts in a Super Bowl XLIV rematch.

New Orleans Saints 5-1 @ Indianapolis Colts 5-1

The 5-1 Saints took on Andrew Luck and the Colts, also at 5-1. The Saints looked to get past the #1 ranked defense in terms of yards/points allowed. Mark Ingram started the first drive of the afternoon off well by rushing for 25 yards, but Drew Brees was intercepted on his first pass!

Andrew Luck only needed to throw three completions, two to Moncrief, and one to Hilton. Moncrief's second reception was a 6-yard touchdown.

Ingram continued to run the ball well, this time for 31 yards on the drive, but Drew Brees threw an incompletion and 3rd and 8, forcing a punt to pin the Colts at their own 3.

However, the Colts were dumb, and Andrew Luck, after taking a 10 step drop was sacked for a safety by multiple Saints defenders! Two safeties in two straight weeks for the Saints!

Coming back on the field, Drew Brees was pressured heavily, but connected with Mark Ingram for a gain of 54. Then on the next play, he hit Cj Spiller for a 32-yard TOUCHDOWN to take a 9-7 lead.

However, Andrew Luck gave the Colts the lead right back, completing several passes, including a 33-yard TOUCHDOWN to former Stanford teammate Coby Fleener. 14-9 Indy.

The Saints moved the ball again, but were stopped at the 33. Kai Forbath attempted a 50-yarder, but missed horribly. An embarrasing moment for Forbath.

The Colts couldn't capitalize as Andrew Luck overthrew his target, and Jairus Byrd grabbed the interception.

The Saints faced 3rd and long, but Drew Brees hit Brandon Coleman, who was wide open on a vertical route, for a 65-yard TOUCHDOWN to put the Saints ahead 16-14.

It didn't take Luck long to respond, for on the third play of the drive, he hit Andre Johnson for a 66-yard touchdown, and the Colts were back ahead, 21-16.

The Saints had to punt with 17 seconds left, and Andrew Luck hit Fleener for a 15-yard pass, setting up a 47-yard field goal. It was good, and Indy led 24-16 going to the half.

Again, Andrew Luck and Coby Fleener had a field day against the Saints' corners and linebackers, but a Luck overthrow forced a 27-yard field goal. 27-16 Indy.

Drew Brees completed the pass of the season, a pass over 60 yards, caught by Marques Colston one-handed in coverage. Brees hit Hester for an 18-yard pass to the 2, and Mark Ingram punched it in. Drew Brees rolled out of the pocket and rushed in the 2-point conversion, cutting the Colts' lead to 3.

On a key 3rd down, the Saints sent the blitz, which was a huge mistake, as Andrew Luck threw to Donte Moncrief for a 62-yard touchdown.

The nail in the coffin was delivered as the Saints couldn't convert on fourth down, giving the Colts the ball at the Saints 23, and Frank Gore ran for a 14-yard TD.

However, on the first play of the next drive, Drew Brees connected with Brandon Coleman for a HUGE 78 yard TOUCHDOWN, and New Orleans were only down 10.

The Saints, with some luck (no pun intended) forced a 3-and-out. Coby Fleener dropped a sure first down.

The Saints fought back, several big completions by Brees got them into Colts territory. But, Cj Spiller fumbled, and it looked like that was it. However, the call was overturned. Drew Brees tried to go for it all, but Devin Hester didn't even try to catch the ball, and the pass was picked off.

The Colts just needed to run the ball to the two minute warning, and run the Saints out of timeouts. They appeared to do this, but on 3rd down, Andrew Luck fumbled! The Saints recovered on the 13.

Drew Brees threw two incompletions, but threw to Ben Watson in double coverage. Watson made the huge grab, getting two feet down, cutting it to 41-38.

The Saints failed the onside kick, but still had 3 timeouts left. Frank Gore couldn't rush the ball for a first down, and the Colts settled for a field goal. 44-38.

The Saints had no timeouts, but a minute and a half, plenty of time for Drew Brees. Drew Brees hit Josh Hill for a few receptions, but was sacked. Marques COlston again stepped up, making a huge catch at the IND 37. Hurrying up, Brees threw an incompletion, giving the Saints much needed rest. He followed by throwing to Seantavious Jones, who didn't let double coverage stop him, putting the team (and the defenders) on his back for the TOUCHDOWN!! UNBELIEVABLE! THE SAINTS LED BY 1!

Andrew Luck, in desperation, threw a hail mary, which was caught in field goal range, but time expired before the play was over! Another lucky break for the Saints! They just won the best game of the season! Andrew Luck definitely regrets fumbling the football. If he held on to it, the Colts would have surely won it. Instead, they fall to 5-2.

35 fantasy points for Brees there. I'd be super happy that day since I always have him on my fantasy team.
