Game 1: Seattle Seahawks (0-0) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (0-0)

Summary: Things started quickly for Jacksonville when rookie Alvin Pearman separated the ball from Seahawks return man Josh Scobey. Rashean Mathis recovered, and a few plays later the Jags' Josh Scobee nailed a field goal for a 3-0 lead. Later, another Jaguars rookie, Matt Jones, gave Jacksonville prime field position when he burst for 28 yards on an end-around. A few plays later, Josh Scobee extended the Jags' lead to 6-0. Things got shaky in the second quarter, when Matt Hasselbeck drilled a wide-open Joe Jurvicius for a 33-yard score, giving the Seahawks a 7-6 advantage. However, Jimmy Smith took over, with two long catches from QB Byron Leftwich, including a 30-yard score. Matt Hasselbeck struck back, however, hitting Darrell Jackson for a 9-yard score to give Seattle a 14-13 advantage at the half. Things got off to a good start in the second half, Leftwich found tight end George Wrightster on a 27-yard gain, and then Jimmy Smith caught his second TD, a seven yard score over Marcus Trufant. The score would stay at 20-14 into the fourth quarter, when Jags' linebacker Daryl Smith picked off an errant Hasselbeck pass, setting up another Jaguars field goal. Seattle got the ball back, but linebacker Akin Ayodele strip-sacked Hasselbeck, and Mike Peterson recovered. Scobee nailed another field goal, the last points in a 26-14 Jaguars opening day victory.

Game 2: Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0) @ Indianapolis Colts (1-0)

Summary: It was a huge matchup between two AFC powers, a big divisional matchup. The Jags struck first when Mike Peterson intercepted a Peyton Manning pass in the red zone, but Josh Scobee missed a field goal wide-left. Neither team could score in the first half, with both D-Lines applying heavy pressure on the opposing QBs. The Jaguars finally got something on the board in the third quarter, when Josh Scobee drilled a field goal for a 3-0 lead. It was short-lived, however, as Edgerrin James trampled the Jaguars' relaxed run defense, and backup Ron Carthon powered his way into the end zone to give the Colts a 7-3 lead. Later in the fourth quarter, the Colts engineered another scoring drive, a Mike Vanderjagt field goal, for a 10-3 lead. Byron Leftwich led a valiant comeback with no timeouts left, but his last second pass for Jimmy Smith was batted by Bob Sanders in the end zone.

Game 3: Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) @ New York Jets (1-1)

Summary: Jacksonville traveled to the Meadowlands to face the Jets. The Jags got off to a fast start, Josh Scobee drilled a field goal in the first quarter, and Byron Leftwich found Ernest Wilford on a deep 21-yard pass to give the Jaguars a 10-0 lead in the second. The Jets struck back on fullback Jerald Sowell's plunge into the end zone, and the score remained 10-7 at the half. The Jaguars got off to a disastrous start to the second half. Leftwich was strip-sacked by John Abraham, and James Reed recovered for a touchdown. A Josh Scobee field goal cut the lead to 14-13, and a muffed punt set up a Fred Taylor score, for a 20-14 Jaguars lead. However, the Jets got a field goal to make it 20-17, and then Reggie Williams fumbled with time winding down. The Jets tied it, 20-20, forcing overtime. The Jets got ball first, but Rashean Mathis picked off a poor lob from Chad Pennington. Leftwich came back with an interception of his own, to Kerry Rhodes. It wouldn't affect the Jags, however- Leftwich hit Jimmy Smith down the sideline for a 36-yard TD pass, wrapping up a 26-20 overtime win.

Game 4: Denver Broncos (2-1) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)

Summary: The Broncos traveled to Jacksonville to take on the 2-1 Jags. The first quarter was sloppy for both teams, Jason Elam missed two field goals, and Byron Leftwich fumbled away a Jaguars drive on a sack. Denver started getting into a groove in the second quarter, however. Jake Plummer found tight end Dwayne Caswell for two 1-yard scores, giving the Broncos a 14-0 lead at the half. The Jaguars cut the lead to 14-7 in the third quarter, when Jimmy Smith caught a short pass from Leftwich and scampered for a 45-yard score. The fourth quarter was awful for Jacksonville, however. Leftwich was picked off by Dominique Foxworth, and later, Nick Ferguson. Both set up Jason Elam field goals, for a 20-7 Broncos lead. On the last comeback attempt, Alvin Pearman fumbled away the ball, giving the Broncos the victory.

Game 5: Cincinnati Bengals (4-0) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)

Summary: It was the battle of the big cats on Sunday Night Football: the scorching hot 4-0 Bengals facing the slumping 2-2 Jaguars. The Jaguars struck first, however, as George Wrightster caught a 26-yard TD pass from Byron Leftwich. A blocked punt set up a Josh Scobee field goal to make it 10-0. In the second quarter, Josh Scobee drilled his second field goal, a 51-yarder, to make it 13-0 Jags. Carson Palmer countered with a TD pass to Chad Johnson, making it 13-7 at the half. The Jaguars got off to a hot start in the second half as well, Leftwich found Ernest Wilford for a 11-yard score, making it 20-7. Two Shayne Graham field goals, one set up by Jaguars' return man Derrick Wimbush, made it 20-13. Josh Scobee hit a 53-yarder in the fourth, and Carson Palmer countered on a long TD pass to Chris Henry, making it 23-20. The Bengals made a last effort with time winding down, but Daryl Smith forced a fumble on a sack of Palmer, and Akin Ayodele recovered, sealing a big Jaguars victory.

Game 6: Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2) @ Pittsuburgh Steelers (3-1)

Summary: The Jaguars traveled to Pittsburgh to battle another AFC North powerhouse, although they were missing star QB Ben Roethlisberger. This proved disastrous in the first quarter, as backup Tommy Maddox tossed two interceptions, one to Terry Cousin and the other to Mike Peterson. The latter set up a seven-yard run for Greg Jones, filling in for the injured Fred Taylor. However, the Steelers came right back in the second, as Maddox hit Heath Miller for a 15-yard score, and Antwan Randle-El returned a punt for a TD. The Jags would get a field goal from Josh Scobee to cut the lead to four. The Jaguars would then take a 17-14 lead in the third, as Byron Leftwich found Matt Jones for a 10-yard score. The Steelers would tie it in the fourth on a field goal, but missed another. Leftwich threw a costly pick in the end zone, and it was 17-17 heading into overtime. Overtime was a thriller- a Tommy Maddox fumble killed a long kick return, and Rashean Mathis took a Maddox interception to the house for a 23-17 overtime win.

Game 7: Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) @ St. Louis Rams (3-4)

Summary: The Jaguars faced a battered Rams team in St. Louis, missing star players Marc Bulger, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, and Leonard Little. Things didn't start off well for the Jags, though, as Brandon Chillar took a blocked punt for a TD. The Jaguars countered when Fred Taylor went off for a 71-yard run, but the Rams immediately struck back when Jamie Martin hit receiver Kevin Curtis for an 83-yard TD to make it 14-7. After some sloppy play from both teams, Byron Leftwich found Ernest Wilford for a 20-yard score to tie it. The Rams would get the lead on a field goal before the half, to make it 17-14. In the third quarter, Leftwich's 15-yard TD to Matt Jones made it 21-17. In the fourth quarter, with the Jags driving, Rams defensive back Mike Furrey picked off Leftwich, and Jamie Martin threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Steven Jackson a few plays later. The Jaguars tried to come back, but Josh Scobee missed his second field goal of the day, allowing the Rams to win a 24-21 upset.

Game 8: Houston Texans (1-6) @ Jacksoville Jaguars (4-3)

Summary: The Jaguars prepared for the awful Houston Texans, coming off their first win of the season. It was the Texans who struck first, however, when David Carr threw a 31-yard TD pass to Corey Bradford. The Jaguars offense couldn't get moving, and Houston led 7-0 at the half. The Jags finally got something going in the 3rd quarter when Byron Leftwich found Ernest Wilford for a 12-yard score to tie it. Carr marched the Texans down the field, however, and Jonathan Wells ran it into the endzone for a 14-7 lead. Leftwich, 11 of 11 in the second half, led two long scoring drives in the fourth quarter: one in which he ran for an 8-yard score, and one where Greg Jones took it in. David Carr tried to spark a comeback, but the Jags were able to fend it off for a 21-14 victory.

Game 9: Baltimore Ravens (2-6) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)

Summary: The Jags faced a slumping Ravens team missing star defensive player Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. It was the Ravens who started things, though, with Kyle Boller driving into Jaguars territory, and taking a 3-0 lead on a field goal. The Jags would take the lead in the second, with Byron Leftwich connecting with Matt Jones for a 32-yard touchdown. A Josh Scobee field goal would give them a 10-3 lead at the half. The Ravens would drive into Jacksonville territory in the third quarter, but nickel corner Terry Cousin picked off an ill-advised Kyle Boller pass. Leftwich would lead his team down the field, and Greg Jones punched it in for a 17-3 lead. In the fourth quarter, two Josh Scobee field goals and a Mike Peterson pick-six gave the Jaguars a 30-3 win in a dominant defensive performance.
