Wild Card: Jacksonville Jaguars (12-4) @ New England Patriots (10-6)

Summary: Byron Leftwich returned as the Jaguars traveled to New England to take on the deadly Patriots. Neither team could muster much offense in the first quarter, but Tom Brady found Tim Brown for an 11-yard score to make it 7-0 in the second. Leftwich countered with a long scoring drive of his own, ending with a Josh Scobee field goal, and it was 7-3 Patriots at the half. The third quarter didn't go so well- Tom Brady hit David Givens on a play-action pass for a three-yard score, then Brady found Benjamin Watson for a 63-yard score while breaking three tackles in the process. Down 21-3, Leftwich attempted a comeback, but he was intercepted in the fourth quarter by Asante Samuel, who took it to the house to end Jacksonville's season.

Free Agency:

Jaguars Additions:
CB: Brian Williams, 3 years, 15 million dollars (from Minnesota)- 47 tackles, 4 INT, 1 sack, 9 PD, 2 FF- Williams played well as the number two cornerback in Minnesota and will fufill that role once again in Jacksonville.

Jaguars Subtractions:
WR: Jimmy Smith- 70 catches, 1,023 yards, 6 TDs- the future hall of famer announced his retirement, coming off another 1,000 yard season, at 36 no less.

CB: Kenny Wright, 5 years, 37.5 million dollars, Detroit Lions- 64 tackles, 2 INT, 6 PD- Wright is coming off an extremely impressive season in Jacksonville as the number 2 corner, so it's no surprise he got a big contract. He's coming off a season in which he played well against high-powered passing attacks such as the Bengals, Colts, and Patriots, on the league's number one Pass D. He's in his prime at 29.

OLB: Akin Ayodele, 4 years, 20 million dollars, Oakland Raiders- 70 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 PD, 4 FF, 1 FR: Ayodele is coming off a nice season in both run support and coverage. He's a reliable linebacker and clutch player, and the Jags will need to replace him in their defense.

SS: Deke Cooper, 1 year, 2 million dollars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers- 58 tackles, 1 INT, 5 PD: Deke started losing playing time to Gerald Sensabaugh near the end of the year, but he's solid depth at safety. Luckily, having Donovin Darius will ease this loss.

Other losses: Mike Pearson, Texans, Ephriam Salaam, Chargers

Garrard on the trade block?

Jacksonville- With the draft nearing, reports of draft day trades will start to intensify. One such player in those rumors- Jaguars backup QB David Garrard. Garrard threw for 1,117 yards and had 7 total touchdowns compared to just one interception while complying a passer rating of 83.9 when starter Byron Leftwich went down with an injury, and the Jags went 4-1 in those starts. He'll be looking to start somewhere, and some potential suitors are the Jets, Cardinals, Bears, and Redskins.

Breaking: Leftwich traded to Chicago

Jacksonville-- It's not Garrard who's on the move. Byron Leftwich, who threw for 2,123 yards, with 17 total touchdowns and 5 interceptions and an 89.3 passer rating, is a Chicago Bear. Reports showed that Leftwich wanted a big contract, but Jacksonville thought that the dropoff between Leftwich and Garrard's performance in 2005 wasn't enough to give him the money, plus, he's coming off an ankle injury. The full deal is: Leftwich and a 7th round pick to the Bears, and Chicago's first, third, and sixth round pick, plus a Dunkin Donuts gift card, will be going to the Jaguars.
