The United States have won their third Women's World Cup trophy with a 5-2 win over Japan. Carli Lloyd was the hero, scoring six goals in the tournament. The US had to deal with Hope Solo's domestic violence issues, Abby Wambach's age, and an injury to my gal Alex Morgan, which made her struggle to find the back of the net. Yet somehow, the USWNT persevered to win the whole tourney. Jill Ellis did a fantastic job coaching the team, and Hope Solo didn't listen to the criticism and won the award for best goalkeeper of the tournament. Alex Morgan was clearly affected by her injury, and only scored one goal, but won two major penalties for the team. Carli Lloyd emerged as the hero, scoring six major goals for the US. Julie Johnston and Ali Krieger led the most dominant defense in Women's World Cup history. Also in the midfield, Tobin Heath and Megan Rapinoe dominated opposing defenses to set up numerous goals. Congrats to the USWNT!!

I watched the final, it was really cool to see the U.S. win and it was a really fun game to watch. Lloyd's 3rd goal was ridiculous.

This x100.

I've become much more interested in soccer over the past couple of years. I just wish America had a better professional league and the men's game didn't feature so much flopping.

Same, I've never watched much of the pro leagues, mainly because they're hardly ever on any channel I get. But yeah I was just thinking about how I would've probably played soccer if my school had a team. :(

There was an insignificant soccer match on? Sorry, didn't notice, was too busy watching NFL Replay.

Even if you don't like soccer, it was significant. I don't watch at all but even I watched this and some of the World Cup last year.

What Brewers and Phillies said. It was significant. Especially when compared with NFL Replay.

Insignificant? Pretty sure it was pretty important. It set records in terms of TV viewership. The most watched soccer game in American history.

Are you saying it's wrong to talk to a bag of Skittles? Because if so, I'm going to need to rethink a lot of things. :P

When will scientist invent a device to detect sarcasm on the internet. People need it here.

Honestly, that didn't sound like sarcasm at all. Anyway, I have more I'd like to talk about in this tournament. I came in expecting Germany to win it all, but they were outmatched in their final two games. Germany it seemed didn't have enough passion for the beautiful game as much as the US and England had. Speaking of England, they got screwed over. I think they would have pulled out a win vs. Japan without the unlucky own goal. They'd also put up a bigger fight against the United States, possibly taking them into extra time. For the US, I came in expecting a total disaster. Hell, I thought we played horribly in the group stages, drawing Sweden and beating Nigeria by only one, and I was very critical of Jill Ellis as a manager. Then I realized she had a plan. The US could not attack early on the way they wanted to, with Alex Morgan playing like shit and Abby Wambach not being able to score as much as she did in 2011. The US had no attacking options, until Carli Lloyd came to the rescue, scoring the winning goals in three games. Without Carli, the US would have lost to Germany, hell maybe even to China in the quarterfinal. Jill Ellis made the necessary switch to the 4-3-3 formation, which the team should have started out with. This change in my opinion won the US the World Cup.
