When A.J. Preller took over as the GM of the San Diego Padres in 2014, he knew the fans wanted a change - and fast. Over the offseason, he transformed the Friars from a 4th place team to World Series contenders by making numerous transactions in what came to be known as "Prellerpalooza." He traded starting catcher Yasmani Grandal to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Matt Kemp and Tim Federowicz. He acquired 2013 A.L. Rookie Of The Year Wil Myers from the Tampa Bay Rays. He dealt prospects to the Atlanta Braves for Justin Upton. He inked James Shields to a 4-year contract. He traded for new starting catcher Derek Norris from the Oakland A's. He also brought back short stop Everth Cabrera in free agency. These moves helped launched the Padres into playoff talks before spring training began. Now that spring training is over, it's time for the Padres to perform on the field instead of on paper. In advance to the team's Opening Day game in Los Angeles against the rival Dodgers, Manager Bud Black finalized the team's roster and depth chart:

Opening Day results will be posted tomorrow.

NOTE: I'll probably be playing 3-4 games a month. In April, I plan on playing Opening Day, the home opener, and two other home games, against the Diamondbacks and Astros.

Opening Day 2015: Solarte Slams Padres Past Dodgers

Yangervis Solarte watches his grand slam in the 5th inning of the Padres' 11-3 Opening Day victory. Solarte had 4 hits on the day, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

The Padres started the season off right with an 11-3 demolishing of their rival Dodgers in L.A.

James Shields out dueled Clayton Kershaw both on the mound and at the plate, where he started the Padres' offensive onslaught with a run-scoring single in his first at bat as a Padre in the third inning. The Padres continued to tack on against Kershaw in the next inning, when third baseman Yangervis Solarte jacked a 382 ft grand slam to blow the game open. The homer bounced off the top of the left field wall and just over the outstretched glove of Dodgers left fielder Carl Crawford.

But the Padres offense wasn't done after that, as they waited for Kershaw to leave the game after the 7th inning before striking again off Dodgers reliever Brandon League. San Diego rocked League for 4 runs and 6 hits, in just 1/3 of an inning. Yonder Alonso, Alexi Amarista, and Everth Cabrera each had a run-scoring hit in the 8th inning, and Jedd Gyorko finished off the scoring with a two-run shot to dead center field off Joel Peralta.

On the mound, Shields had a solid debut, striking out 5 and only allowing one run to pick up the win. He left after 6 innings of work up 5-1, and the Padres' bullpen finished up the game. Southpaw Alex Torres struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief, and righty Kevin Quackenbush finished off the game by pitching the last two frames.

The Friars play two more games in L.A., but we'll join them back in San Diego for their home opener on Thursday against the defending champions San Francisco Giants.

Padres Home Opener: Alonso, Norris Lead Padres Comeback

Wil Myers scores on a two-run go-ahead double by Derek Norris in the 8th inning. The Padres came back from a 3-0 deficit to win their home opener over the Giants.

After dropping the final two games in L.A., the Padres returned home for a 4-game set against the rival San Francisco Giants.

Ian Kennedy got the nod in the home opener, and struggled early, giving up run-scoring hits to Brandon Belt and Nori Aoki, and the Padres soon found themselves down 3-0. Other than that, however, Kennedy pitched well, striking out seven Giants in 7 innings of work. The Padres offense couldn't seem to retaliate against Tim Lincecum, who shutout the Padres through the first five innings.

That all changed for the better when Yonder Alonso stood in with two outs in the bottom of the 6th, and jacked a solo shot to right field off Lincecum. The Friars also threatened in the 7th, getting the first two runners on base. However, with runners on the corners with no outs, Justin Upton hit into a double play, and San Diego could only score one run in the inning.

Lincecum left the game after allowing a hit with one out in the 8th. Setup man Sergio Romo relieved him, but only helped fuel a Padres rally. After getting Yangervis Solarte to line out to right field for the second out, Romo could not get the final out of the inning. Matt Kemp walked, and Justin Upton and Wil Myers each singled to load the bases. Jean Machi came in to try and end the inning, but with the bags full, Yonder Alonso walked to bring in the tying run. Derek Norris followed him with a go-ahead double that drove in two, and give the Padres a 5-3 that would hold as Joaquin Benoit struck out three in the ninth to preserve a Padres victory.

San Diego plays three more against the Giants and then a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks to finish an early homestand.

Thanks :)

I'm using the default rosters, so unfortunately Hedges isn't in the game. You can have Wil Nieves though I guess :|
