That roster would've been killer in, like, 2012.

I went and looked this up on Fangraphs for some reason... Here goes.

2012:

Ackley - .226/.296/.328; 1.6 WAR (best season was 2011, 3.0 WAR)
Gomes - .262/.377/.491; 2.2 WAR (best season was 2005, 2.7 WAR)
Bailey - 7.04 ERA, 4.53 FIP; 0.0 WAR (best season was 2009, 2.2 WAR)
Papelbon - 2.44 ERA, 2.89 FIP; 1.4 WAR (best season was 2006, 3.1 WAR)
Trout - .326/.399/.564; 10.3 WAR (best season was 2013, 10.5 WAR)

not bad overall. would argue 2011 but that's Trout's "rookie year" (the one where he got called up and didn't do much).

if you throw in 2012 Pujols (.285/.343/.516, 3.6 WAR) things really start to get interesting

2012 was Revere's best season (2.8 WAR) and Espinosa's best (3.5 WAR) and Maybin's second best (2.2 WAR). 2011 was Revere's fourth-best (1.5), Espinosa's second best (3.3), and Maybin's best (4..

pitching-wise you don't get much though. most of the Angels' hurlers are too young, and were just breaking into the majors at that time. Bud Norris (1.7 WAR in 2012, 2.0 in 2011) and Ricky Nolasco (2.2 in 2012, 3.0 in 2011) are really the only arms you add past Bailey/Papelbon who were worth anything]

Michael Fulmer actually had a decent outing today, going seven innings, striking out three, and only giving up one run. However, the bullpen couldn't hold down a 2-1 lead the rest of regulation, but a fielding error in the 11th by Dustin Ackley allowed the go-ahead run to score from third to give the Tigers the victory. Drew VerHagen and Anibal Sanchez had a man on third with no outs in the bottom of the 11th, but stranded him to end the game.
