Game. Set. Match.

DETROIT, MI (NAP) - 30 years ago, the Detroit Tigers were champions of the MLB with a dominating 5-game win over the Padres.

It wasn't as dominant as that squad, but the Tigers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 to win their 5th World Series championship in franchise history. "It's a great feeling to know you were the best team all year, and capping it off with a World Series championship is extremely awesome," winning pitcher Justin Verlander said in the postgame interview.

The Tigers got their runs via Miguel Cabrera, who hit an sac fly in the 1st inning, and an RBI single in the 3rd. "Getting my second World Series championship is a special feeling," he said. "Hopefully, we'll go out and do it again next year!"

Verlander pitched 6.1 shutout innings tonight, and while he wasn't sharp, giving up 5 walks, he did strike out 9 Brewers and got out of some pretty tough jams to help his team get the victory. Javier Lopez, Al Alburquerque, and Joe Nathan combined for the last 2.2 innings to seal the deal.

The bright spot for the Brewers was Jonathan Lucroy, who had 2 hits.

The Tigers now go into the offseason with questions that need answering. Re-sign Max Scherzer? What to do with Torii Hunter? Who starts in center field next year? Can they repeat as champions? We'll check back in with you in (game-time) March, hopefully with answers to these questions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DET:
Cabrera: 1-2, 2 RBI
Castellanos, Travis: 2-4 each
Carrera: 1-2, 2 R, 2 SB
Verlander: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R/ER, 9 K, 5 BB (125 pitches)

MIL:
Lucroy: 2-4
Braun: 1-4
Gallardo: 6.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R/ER, 3 K, 5 BB (125 pitches)

Yeah, it's definitely hard. It's especially hard when the owner wants to decrease the payroll. Ugh. I think I can get around it, though.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My notes on the offseason:

-The coaches we hired, I feel, are spectacular hires. Alan Trammell, the former Tigers manager, is an excellent hitting coach, and he can handle players pretty well. Pete O'Brien might have a different philosophy from Brad Ausmus, but he is outstanding at handling rookies, and is legendary at teaching fielding and pitching, so we couldn't pass up on hiring him.
-I also feel the transactions I made were decent enough as well. We're taking on a little more salary with Jay Bruce in right field, but he's younger and slightly better defensively than Hunter was last year. We also got a decent RF prospect out of the deal as well, and I think that trade will work out for us. The Mike Montgomery deal is gonna be one of the under-rated deals this offseason. He really progressed nicely last season and this offseason, and his stats are phenomenal for such a young pitcher. It seemed like a lot of minor leaguers were on the FA market this year, and we were lucky to snatch hum up. I mean, look at this:

Any other questions? Let me know.

Nope. He's not that good. 1*/1* player. I feel like I got a steal in that deal.

And I misprinted, he's a MR, not a RF.

A close game on Opening Day, with Joe Nathan stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the game. Bruce had a couple homers, which is awesome in and of itself, and this could be the start of another great season! Regular updates will continue soon.

Decent enough end to the series, with Price getting a tough-luck loss, and the offense exploding in Game 3. Hopefully, we'll keep this up this year.
