When I played through it, 99 percent of it was scrolling through text. Maybe twice I got to hit and I grounded out. Eventually the game just randomly ended and told me that I had given up my dream or something. It sucked.

If you replay it you can use the skip event option to skip most text, and there's also a button you can hold to skip text even faster(L1 on the PS2).

Other than that, it sounds like you may have been captain, which is much harder than playing just as yourself in my opinion. But if you actually play well you can play in eight games I believe.

You're right that there seems to be very little actual baseball in success mode, which surprised me going in. However, if you understand that and read some of the text, a lot of the things that go on in the course of success mode are ridiculous and are humorous.

It also took me three or four players before I got to the point where I could legitimately make a player who would successfully complete the mode and be added to the game. Patience is good.

I failed my first 4-5 players but once you get into a groove you figure out what to do and you can make some great players.
