I suppose this entire board is made of spoilers, but I'm not exactly looking for them.

This thread is for those who have defeated the Champion Rings at the College Kings Series.

Has anyone managed do win the game against the MLB Superstars? I've gotten to it a few times, but the best I seem to be able to do is to score 4 and give up 7. It's a little bit infuriating. I think the best team to use in this game would include Alvin as captain, since he has a pretty decent bat and can pitch several innings.

With the Rookie Charm and Psychic Goggles, I've beaten it at least a dozen times. Your created player had best be good, because he'll have to carry the team. Pitchers need to go deep with little runs given up, and hitters need to produce a run every at-bat (whether driving one in, or scoring a few batters later), at least for me. The best hitting strategy, though, is getting hit by pitches. Look for slurve's and curve's down and in.

That's interesting... I've been using the goggles and been both waiting for fastballs or pitches on the inner half that I can drive, just to try to get the pitch count up.

And then of course the game lifts Johan Santana for Jake Peavy and I utter a stream of expletives.

The game isn't easy but it can be won. Go for the HBP and try to drive liners up the middle if you can. Pedro is the easiest to get on base against because most of his stuff is low breaking pitches.

If you don't have a good pitcher, this game might be a little difficult.

Also I have found that you should not use the power hit. The fielders are just too good. They catch everything! Only use power hit with really weak hitters. If you just make good contact you can usually rally about six or seven bloopers over the infielders' heads.

But once again it comes down to pitching. And you better have a good closer too(or pitcher with lots of stamina) because I have had many 5-0 leads going into the ninth and barely pulling off a 5-4 victory.

Will agree with this, anything you hit as a flyball will never get close to the fence (unless you've got a super power hitter and get lucky)


You'll will really need to vary your pitches well. If you don't have a high stamina pitcher, you'll need to be using pitchers every 2 innings or so. If this is the case, save Alvin and Robin to be your setup man and closer (either or).

I found that playing a very conservative defense (everyone BACK) helps reduce damage on this field. Marvin seems to act like Juan Pierre running after fly balls over his head.

Another thing is to not ground into double plays with your success mode batter on deck. It is better for him to strike out so your guy has a chance to get a home run.

That's an excellent point. I went from having never beaten the Superstars in at least 30 tries to having beaten them 3 times in a row now, and this is one of the strategies I've adopted when I'm playing a position player. I also extend that to the other games though, where if there are 2 or 3 men on base with less than two outs and my guy is in the hole, I'll make whoever is hitting in front of him (seems to be Pete usually) take a strikeout as to not mess up a good opportunity

-lol- With all the Superstars having A FLD, RUN SPD, ARM SPD, Pivot Man, Gold Glove, etc. ... I would pretty much expect Mauer to pounce on the bunt, whip it to Cano, and for Cano to turn it over to Pujols for the twin killing

Yeah, and the fastest runner on the team is Milton, who has a crap C run speed.
That'll probably happen, since mauer and cano have B arm str.

My nine-hole batter hit so poorly (two DPs in the same game) that I started trying to sac-bunt him, bu he kept fouling them off and forcing me to swing. It got so bad that I was happy when he only produced ONE out.

It took me four attempts with my last player (who had B power), but I finally won the game 7-4, on the power of three homers from my main player.

Rex and Milton were adept at getting on in base in front of me, so that was nice.

I usually put Robin/Alvin in as starting pitcher and then move them to 1B or RF because their offensive abilities are also among the best in success mode.

That's actually a pretty good call. I should have thought of that.

It was really nice to squeeze about six innings out of Alvin in my game, though.

For me, though, I never do the bunting thing, and always go for hits (unless, I've got a big lead, then I'll try to get out and end the game). With the Goggles and Charm, every guy has the potential for a base hit. I just string them together.

I actually played my first Success Mode game without the Rookie Charm this week. It helped for fielding, because now my players will take direct routes to fly balls, turn double plays, and not wait 5 seconds before breaking for a grounder. The hitting is harder, though.
