I know you can improve (random?) practices, invent special powerins, and write things that raise your ladies man but have never pursued it. Can anybody describe what you can get from research in detail?

You can acquire what is called Pressure Training from studying when you've maxed your Bookworm level. This improves your main Strength(Fielding Training) and Run Speed(Sprints) trainings.

I can't say exactly how much they improve since I don't have a save from before I acquired it but I imagine it's much like the Champion Ring, and that it improves it by a few points. If memory serves me right I believe it improves them by 5, meaning 5 more STR every practice, and 5 more RSPD every practice, but probably not more mentality.

It's actually considered level 4 - Inventor.

Possibilities:
1. Nothing, just study - maybe question.
2. Invent Love Poem, can be used as holiday gift (instead of Bear, Bag, Necklace).
3. Invent Powerin Special - increases vitality a lot, and increases Motivation.
4. Discover Pressure Training manual, and the practices that Tgjason described are improved (Machine, Running, Throwing).

The raw points don't seem like much of an upgrade, but the hidden benefit to pressurized training is the hyper recovery bonus gauge filling up quicker. Not only do you hit the sweet spot faster but you get the max bonus by a lot less turns practicing.

I think I was able to get a +99 recovery after only 3 turns training. Before intensifying it takes like 5 or 6 turns.

Oh, I never really noticed that. By the way, Odawali, thanks for the tip about the Graduate's Charm + Mind-Training Necklace a while back, it's helped me get players with A power, with respectable stats in other categories as well (using the pressure-training earlier from reaching level 4 a year earlier).

Besides the Studying, do you guys do anything else to get a star on your most used training? i noticed brad's story chain gives me a star for Throwing, which is pretty useful, but costs about 4 random events.

Alvin becoming captain in year 3 boosts training, as does completing other teammate's arcs (Rex, Milton, Robin, etc.)

I never, ever allow Alvin to stay on the team

Just curious, what do the stars do, because I had some on one of my success mode's a while back and never knew what they meant or did.

Stars indicate that the practice with the star is more efficient (ie, you earn more xp) than without.

Yeah, I don't anymore either unless I'm not paying close enough attention and stuck without a Challenge card to get the year 2 captaincy. But in some of my early games I avoided being captain when I was making a position player because I had a hard time winning the games unless I was controlling my own at-bats instead of the 8th-9th innings. So I've had both Alvin and Marvin as captains at times :)

Is there a point to getting rid of Alvin and becoming captain in year 2 other than to date Becky?

When you're captain you earn more XP in the games. Likewise, you earn more XP in games if you play without the Rookie Charm (assuming you can get roughly the same game stats without it as you can with it).
