Since this is a somewhat eclectic group who have created a pitcher/fielder; I set out to make a rather mediocre pitcher with two level-3 pitches, and ended up having his stats pretty much where I wanted midway through year 2 (94mph, B stamina, D control, lvl 3 cchg, lvl 3 cb). So, intrigued by the other pitcher/fielder combos out here, I thought I could make a Rick Ankiel sort, a P/CF. Obviously I don't want his hitting stats too high...I want realistic characters for an expansion team.

So I got CF as a second position, and got his contact up to E, and his other fielding ratings up to D. And again, I have way too many points and weeks left over. So, I have some oddball questions:

1) Can you give a pitcher a third position? ie 1B, C? Will his bar have three colors?? Weird!
2) I bought a bat, and was thinking about getting the abilities out of it. When you play the pitcher, it doesn't let you bat, so you can't gain any batting abilities. However, what if you were the captain, and halfway through the game you took yourself out as a pitcher, and put yourself in to CF? Then, can you bat for yourself for the remainder of the game? And maybe get some batting points/abilities?

Has anyone thought about this or tried it?

You could get 4 colors. Red(pitcher), Blue(catcher), Green(outfield) and yellow(infield). Haven't tried that yet though. The guy I'm working on now will have three colors.

I even thought about starting with a genius pitcher to get the red, then just making a good fielder with the other positions but the problem is the hot zones.

I never tried but, if you take your pitcher out to be a fielder, I'm almost 100% sure that you will no longer control him that game.

thanks.

I don't think you can get 4 colors - you can only get two Alternate Positions, and Pitcher counts as your first position. So as a pitcher, once you get say CF and 1B, you're all out of spots; Catcher is greyed out.

I'll try it tonight to make sure I'm not off the deep end; but I know my utility infielder builds have always maxed out at 3 positions, one primary and two secondary.

I just got done making a cheap MR and decided to bump up his batting stats. It turned out ok I guess, I didn't want him to be too good that that he would end up being expensive in Season mode.

I finally finished my first pitcher/fielder combo...SP/CF. wiki/index.php?title=Custom_Players:Justin_Baker

Again, I understand it's not in the vein of the other guys on here - I'm going for middle-range, affordable players, not all-A's projects. It would be fun, though - now that I'm really good at success mode, I have to waste weeks or even sit through an injury now and then...otherwise I just have way, way too many points and abilities.

I agree. It is much more fun to play through injuries and bad ability gains than to spend weeks creating perfecto projects.

man how do you upgrade top speed to that?

All my guys are junk throwers. some of them are 80 mph, the fastest one has 87.
I can get nasty breaking pitches though.

I don't know if im the only one who has noticed this but when players have multiple positions that are not all Infield, outfield, ect. there is somtimes a curve or break in the color scheme while others don't have it

Good observation. If you look at my custom team tho, the only combo that doesn't have the wavy line is IF/OF. My 3B/LF and SS/2B/CF are both straight lines, green and yellow.

My pitcher/CF and RF/1B/C both have wavy lines. So it must just be the picture in the game for the color bar. I think catcher/IF is a straight line, too.

As for how to get my speed so high - 94 is nothing, look at the dudes who get to 105!! I get 1 or 2 items that boost speed (accelerator soles), and practice the rest up. Maybe gamble for a point or two, even save/reloading to make sure I get it. That's just to get 94, or my one guy with 99. Some guys on here thrive on getting the dudes to 105. My next reliever is going to be 101-102mph...going to go for speed above all else. Accelerator Soles, the glove that helps top speed, and a few gambling tickets should do it.

I just made a closer and focused solely on Top Speed. I rolled a Standard Plus and did not upgrade the control or stamina until the end. The first year I just kept strength training, then just kept gambling for Top Speed (also gambling for breaking balls, using Odawali's Shadow Pitching)

But actually, for me, if I don't focus on top speed, I usually get in the 80 mph range. My first successful pitcher threw 83 mph. My next one threw 84. And then, when I concentrated on top speed, I got 104

too bad I picked a bad pitching motion, he only reaches 98

If you edit a player, even if you get him to play every position, it only shows 3 colors i think
